Localizer - how to delete a property
by Ulrich Wisser 03 Oct '02

Hello, my fingers were faster then my brain. To one of my LocalContent objects I added a localized property "default_template". Of course I can no longer view this object. How can I delete the property. transparent gifs
by Danny Morgan 03 Oct '02

03 Oct '02

I've been attempting to use a 'spacer.gif' but run into problems with Zope's rendering of it. Specifically, the space that should be transparent is instead gray. When viewed from the ZMI, it is transparent. When called from a page template, as with the following code, it is not. Likewise, it is gray when called from the web directly. <img src="spacer_gif" width="30" tal:attributes="src here/images/spacer_gif/absolute_url" > http://localhost:8080/images/spacer_gif Thanks for reading, Danny

Zope-Product SiteSearch?
by Peter.Frey＠haufe.de 03 Oct '02

03 Oct '02

Hi I just tried the ZOD product (Zope Online Documentation) but was not successful because there seems to be a dependency to an other Zope product that I failed to find on www.zope.org The error message I get is: 2002-10-02T20:57:34 PROBLEM(100) ZODB Could not import class 'SiteSearch' from module 'Products.Site Search.SiteSearch' Any tip where to find this product is welcome. There are two HowTos related to the search term 'SiteSearch' but unfortunately nothing that looks like a product. Peter

Compiling on Mac OS X 10.2
by Aparajita Fishman 03 Oct '02

03 Oct '02

Hi all, For the benefit of all Jaguar (10.2) users, here is the complete steps I followed to compile and install readline 4.3, postgres 7.2.2, mxDateTime 2.0.4 and psycopg 1.0.12. All were compiled from the source tarballs available from the respective web sites. Preliminary steps ----------------- 1. cd /usr/lib/python2.2/config 2. Edit Makefile (with sudo), look for the line that begins "LDFLAGS=". In mine it is line 62. 3. If the line reads: LDFLAGS= -arch i386 -arch ppc change it to: LDFLAGS= -arch ppc In other words, remove the errant "-arch i386". Why that is there only the people at Apple know. Maybe they did a build of Darwin on x86 and forgot to remove that flag in the final build. 4. Save the changes. readline -------- 1. After untarring, cd into readline-4.3/support 2. Edit shobj-conf and find the section that begins with "# Darwin/MacOS X". The section begins with "darwin*|macosx*)" and ends with ";;". 3. Copy that whole section and then paste it below the ";;" at the end of the section but before the "openbsd*)" starting the next section. This will be a new darwin6 section. 4. Go back to the top of the original and change "darwin*|macosx*)" to "darwin[0-5]*)". 5. Go to the top of the new darwin6 section and change "darwin*|macosx*)" to "darwin6*)". 6. In the darwin6 section, look for the line that begins with "SHLIB_XLDFLAGS=". 7. Towards the end of that line, change "$(SHLIB_MAJOR)" to "$(SHLIB_MAJOR).2". 8. The next line should read: SHLIB_LIBS='-lSystem' Change it to this: SHLIB_LIBS='-lSystem -lcc_dynamic -lncurses' 9. Save you changes, cd up one level, and then: ./configure make make install Ignore any warnings about duplicate symbols. The readline libs will now be installed in /usr/local/lib. postgres -------- 1. After untarring the source and cd into the postgres directory, do the following: cd src/include/port/darwin mv sem.h sem.orig.h echo '#include <sys/sem.h>' > sem.h cd ../../../backend/port 2. Edit Makefile.in, look for the 3 lines in the beginning section: ifeq ($(PORTNAME), darwin) OBJS += darwin/SUBSYS.o endif 3. Delete or comment out those lines and save your changes. 4. Now do the following: cd ../../.. ./configure --mandir=/usr/local/share/man --with-openssl=/usr/lib --enable-recode make make install make install-all-headers mxDateTime ---------- I had no problems with this. After untarring, cd into the egenix directory and do the following: python setup.py install To install in a Zope python, it would be: <zope>/bin/python setup.py install where <zope> is your Zope directory. psycopg ------- Finally we can compile psycopg! 1. After untarring, cd into psycopg and do the following: setenv LDFLAGS -lssl This is in tcsh, do the equivalent in your shell to set the LDFLAGS environment variable. 2. Now do this to configure: For the default Apple python: ./configure --mandir=/usr/local/share/man --with-postgres-libraries=/usr/local/pgsql/lib --with-postgres-includes=/usr/local/pgsql/include --with-mxdatetime-includes=/usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/mx/ DateTime/mxDateTime For a Zope python: ./configure --mandir=/usr/local/share/man --with-postgres-libraries=/usr/local/pgsql/lib --with-postgres-includes=/usr/local/pgsql/include --with-mxdatetime-includes=<zope>/lib/python2.1/site-packages/mx/ DateTime/mxDateTime --with-python=<zope>/bin/python where <zope> is your Zope directory. 3. If this works: make make install That's all there is to it! ;-) Aparajita Victory-Heart Productions aparajita(a)aparajitaworld.com www.aparajitaworld.com

Creating objects within a dynamic folder
by Paul Smith 03 Oct '02

03 Oct '02

Dear all, Apologies if this seems a dumb question, but I've developed Zope-blindness from looking at this for a while now, and would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction... I'm trying to create a simple product for adding News items to folders within the ZODB. I am wanting to create the folder if it does not exist, and the folder name is built from values passed through from the form preceeding the constructor. Once the folder is created, or if it already exists, a news item should be added within the folder. This is where I am hitting a wall - I can't seem to create a namespace which allows me to create an object within the folder... The following is working code which creates a folder if needed, and the news item, but the next step is to create a news item within the newly created / existing folder. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('folderdate', displayfrom_month + displayfrom_year)"> <dtml-if "_.hasattr(this(), folderdate )"> <dtml-var folderdate> exists. <dtml-with "newseventitem.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "propertysheets.newsevent.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> </dtml-with> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "manage_addFolder(id=folderdate,title=folderdate)"> <dtml-with "newseventitem.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "propertysheets.newsevent.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> </dtml-with> <dtml-var folderdate> doesn't exist. Item added </dtml-if> [newseventitem is the ZClass, and newsevent is the propertysheet associated with this ZClass] If anyone can point me the right direction, or suggest a better way of doing this, I would be most grateful. Getting zctl.py To Start ftpd-- Was: Is Anyone Listening?? Port 8021 Isn't!
by beno 03 Oct '02

03 Oct '02

It (finally) strikes me that the reason I can't get my ftpd started on port 8021 is because I'm using InstanceHome and zctl.py, not the standard *start* script in the distro. So...How do I get ftpd started from zctl.py? Here's what the script has: I'm trying to figure out how to pass a flag or tweak the script. Suggestions? for client in clients: args = list(zope_args) if client != 'default': ZOPE_PORT = ZOPE_LOG = ZOPE_OPTS = '' CLIENT_HOME = pjoin(HERE, client) conf = pjoin(CLIENT_HOME, 'conf.py') if not (isdir(CLIENT_HOME) and isfile(conf)): print 'Client configuration file "%s" was not found.' % conf continue execfile(conf, globals()) args.append('"CLIENT_HOME=%s"' % CLIENT_HOME) if ZOPE_OPTS: args.insert(0, ZOPE_OPTS) if ZOPE_PORT: args.insert(0, '-P %s' % ZOPE_PORT) if ZOPE_LOG: args.append('"STUPID_LOG_FILE=%s"' % ZOPE_LOG) for k,v in ZOPE_ENV.items(): env[k] = str(v) if ZEO: start_zeo(zeo_args) print 'Starting %s Zope...' % client run(cmd % string.join(args)) At 07:33 PM 10/2/2002 -0400, you wrote: >the $@ just gathers all the command line stuff you typed after "start" Thanks. >the Z2.log file is your standard web log, it should be in the var >directory. you don't see it? weird Oops. It's under InstanceHome/var >how are you verifying that 8021 is not working? can you telnet to that >port? I can't telnet into my box (I could within the box, but forget how <:-) I can't use WS_FTP to get in on that port. Also, *netstat -n -a* doesn't show the port as being listened to. >is it possible that 8021 is somehow locked down? you could verify that >8021 is operational by restarting zope to run on that port and surf to >it -- edit your start script and give it a shot. I'm almost certain the problem is with the zctl.py script at this point. Thanks! beno

Re: Combined the fixes for XMLRPC traceback, authorization, and authorization failure for everyone

Chris, It appears that some of the fixes I submitted have already been merged into the CVS tree. The BasicAuthTransport has not been though. So, I submitted issue 602 to the collector. EasyPublisher not being recognized
by Honest to Goodness 03 Oct '02

03 Oct '02

I have Zope 2.5.1 installed on my Mandrake 8.2 system and everything works great. I installed the EasyPublisher 1.6 system in my /usr/local/Zope directory as instructed and there is now an EasyPublisher16 folder in there. But when I restart Zope none of the EP16 products are recognized. Nothing appears in the Zope management screen. I notice that the Zope dir has a /lib/python/Products sub-dir and so does the EP16 folder. Am I supposed to copy the product dirs into there? I don't want to mess things up. The EasyPublisher instructions are all written for those installing on Win32. Has anyone else been through this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
