[announce] first release of pythondirector
by Anthony Baxter 02 Jul '02

02 Jul '02

I've put the first suitable-for-someone-other-than-me release of python director up on pythondirector.sourceforge.net. This is a pure python (async I/O based) TCP loadbalancer/redirector. Why another load balancer? Well, the ones that are out there are just not what I want or need. Python Director's aimed at people who want or need a more sophisticated load balancer than something that just provides a round robin service, and at the same time is manageable without a restart. Note that pydir handles any TCP protocol - not just HTTP. We use it to loadbalance fastcgi fine. Requires: Python 2.1 or greater. feedback invited. Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood. ---------- Full readme file follows: ---------- This is a pure python TCP load balancer. It takes inbound TCP connections and connects them to one of a number of backend servers. Project home: http://pythondirector.sourceforge.net/ Contact email: Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Features: - async i/o based, so much less overhead than fork/thread based balancers - Multiple scheduling algorithms (random, round robin, leastconns) - If a server fails to answer, it's removed from the pool - the client that failed to connect gets transparently failed over to a new host. - xml based configuration file - seperate management thread that periodically re-adds failed hosts if they've come back up. - optional builtin webserver for admin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- API (web based): Admin interface: running / running.txt current configuration and status of the PD (HTML / text) config.xml - initial config of the PD (xml) running.xml current running config of the PD (xml) Host mgmt: addHost?service=NNN&group=NNN&ip=NNN:n - add a new host to the group of a service delHost?service=NNN&group=NNN&name=NNN:n - remove a host from the group of a service delAllHosts?service=NNN&group=NNN - remove all hosts from the group of a service Note that the last two will not let you remove all hosts from the enabled group. group mgmt: enableGroup?service=NNN&group=NNN - switch the currently enabled group. Note that this will not affect any in-progress connections. changeScheduler?service=NNN&group=NNN&scheduler=NNN user mgmt: addUser delUser service mgmt: others: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Changes from 0.0.2 to 0.0.3: - delHost hooked up - running.xml added - XML dump of current config - centralised logging - the various things that write logfile entries need to be made consistent, and a lot of additional logging needs to be added. - Python2.1 compatibility fix: no socket.gaierror exception on 2.1 Changes from 0.0.1 to 0.0.2: - refactored web publishing (babybobo) - package-ised and distutil-ised the code ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This software is covered by the following license: Copyright (c) 2002 ekit.com Inc (http://www.ekit-inc.com/) and Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the Software is furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions: The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software. FolderFilter Breaks with Non-Manager?
by joel＠joelburton.com 02 Jul '02

02 Jul '02

Evan -- I'm testing FolderFilter for a production site. It works fine when I log in as a Manager, but when I log in with a highly-privileged, non-Manager account ("Client" role), I don't see folder content listings -- instead I see teh rendered content. The Client role has *all* privileges, so it shouldn't be a permission problem per se, and this happens on a clean install of Zope2.5.1, so it's not an incompatibility with a local product. If I trim your __init.py__ file down and comment out the filtering stuff, I still can't get Folder views -- as long as the Folder.manage_main= DTMLFile() line is there, this bug happens. Any advice on where to start looking for this bug? Or any workarounds? Thanks! - J.

Re: [Zope] call zope methods from the operating system

>>can I call Zope >>methods from the operating system (e.g. MySQLDA) without a loopback? >You can with "XML-RPC" or "ZPublisher.Client" or "httplib.HTTP"... I would call httplib or urllib a loopback (if you use it like urllib.urlopen('http://localhost:8080/mymethod?arg=val').read() ) But that would be really slow, wouldn't it? Could you give me an example for "XML-RPC" or "ZPublisher.Client" ? Help using ClassSecurityInfo...
by Paolo Galati 02 Jul '02

02 Jul '02

Hi , i have a problem using ClassSecurityInfo in my python product for CMF. In my product i use the sintax below: --------------------------------------------- class my_class(Implicit, Persistent, RoleManager, Item): meta_type = 'my_type' security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.setPermissionDefault('my permission', ('role1, 'role2')) ... ... Globals.InitializeClass(my_class) --------------------------------------------- when i first instance the product the permission specified in setPermissionDefault are not set at all. There is another method to map default permission to roles, using RoleManager i can use manage_permission to do the job but i like to know why the setPermissionDefault method not set default roles can anyone help me ? -------------------------------------------------------------- Paolo Galati - Developement Area [ n o z e S.r.l. ] - Soluzioni open-source Via Giuntini, 25 int.29 - 56023 Navacchio - Cascina (PI) Tel +39 (0)50 754380 - Fax +39 (0)50 754381 Email: paolo(a)noze.it - Web: http://www.noze.it --------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Dieter > These are warnings.... >Unless you run Python in "Warning -> Error" mode, they >should >not lead to an abortion of the process. How do I do that? And the warnings don't end. They come for hours! I can't get to the management interface. Do I have to upgrade via Zope 2.5.x? >Probably, you have a different problem unrelated to these >warnings. Under 2.4.0 all's fine. >Dieter

Re: [Zope] DBase recommendation

I'm using Zope 2.5 on a Debian box w/ Postgresql and loving it. Getting the drivers in was a pain but w/ persistence it paid off. I used the Znolk product to create forms from Postgres tables and I'm a hero. I have alot of Oracle help and pgadmin II and Postgres ODBC w/ Windoze2k works great to use MS Access. Don't know much else... but Postgresql seemed to be the DBA's Open Source choice after using Oracle in business. It's all up to how you have to support it in my mind. Too many contortions = too much time to deliver. I know this is a bit off topic, but I plan to change my zopeback end database from MySQL. Need subselects and dynamic replication. Any recommendations between PostGres and Interbase. Compatibility with zope251 a must. Any comments TIA Dave

The above appears in STUPID_LOG_FILE. Is it a Zope bug? I'm using Zope 2.5.1 on Linux. -- Milos Prudek

Rendering files with exception
by Jaroslav Lukesh 02 Jul '02

02 Jul '02

Hi all, I want to show structured text files uploaded via FTP, many files in one directory rendered as single file with standard header and footer. But if in directory exist an index.htm file (exception), then current index.htm file was shown without header and footer instead render of STX documents. This sys_list-item DTML method works: <dtml-in expr="objectValues('DTML Document')"> <dtml-if "hasProperty('hide')"><dtml-else> <dtml-var sequence-item fmt=structured-text> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> But follows few snippets does not works optimally. It does render index.htm with header and footer or does not render STX and show index.htm correctly etc. Does somebody know where I make error? Or does have somenody reccomendation for some zope product for that? Many thanks, J. Lukesh <dtml-if expr="_.string.find(_['id'],'index.htm')==0"> <dtml-var index.htm> <dtml-else> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var sys_list-item> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> </dtml-if> 8<--------------------------------------------------- <dtml-with expr="objectValues('DTML Document')"> <dtml-if expr="_.string.find(_['id'],'index.htm')==0"> <dtml-var index.htm> <dtml-else> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var sys_list-item> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> </dtml-if> </dtml-with> 8<--------------------------------------------------- <dtml-unless expr="PARENTS[0].objectValues('index.htm')"> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var sys_list-item> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> </dtml-unless> <dtml-if expr="PARENTS[0].objectValues('index.htm')"> <dtml-var index.htm> </dtml-if> 8<--------------------------------------------------- <dtml-if expr="PARENTS[0].objectValues('index.htm')"> <dtml-var index.htm> <dtml-else> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var sys_list-item> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> </dtml-if> 8<--------------------------------------------------- <dtml-in expr="objectValues()"> <dtml-if expr="_.string.find(_['id'],'index.htm')==0"> <dtml-if sequence-start><dtml-var index.htm> </dtml-if> <dtml-else> <dtml-if sequence-start> <dtml-var standard_html_header> ......this sys_list-item DTML method does not work: <dtml-var sys_list-item> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> </dtml-if> </dtml-if> </dtml-in>
