I've put the first suitable-for-someone-other-than-me release of python director up on pythondirector.sourceforge.net. This is a pure python (async I/O based) TCP loadbalancer/redirector. Why another load balancer? Well, the ones that are out there are just not what I want or need. Python Director's aimed at people who want or need a more sophisticated load balancer than something that just provides a round robin service, and at the same time is manageable without a restart. Note that pydir handles any TCP protocol - not just HTTP. We use it to loadbalance fastcgi fine. Requires: Python 2.1 or greater. feedback invited. FolderFilter Breaks with Non-Manager?

Evan -- I'm testing FolderFilter for a production site. It works fine when I log in as a Manager, but when I log in with a highly-privileged, non-Manager account ("Client" role), I don't see folder content listings -- instead I see teh rendered content. The Client role has *all* privileges, so it shouldn't be a permission problem per se, and this happens on a clean install of Zope2.5.1, so it's not an incompatibility with a local product. If I trim your __init.py__ file down and comment out the filtering stuff, I still can't get Folder views -- as long as the Folder.manage_main= DTMLFile() line is there, this bug happens. Any advice on where to start looking for this bug? Or any workarounds? Thanks! - J.

I would call httplib or urllib a loopback (if you use it like urllib.urlopen('http://localhost:8080/mymethod?arg=val').read() ) But that would be really slow, wouldn't it? Could you give me an example for "XML-RPC" or "ZPublisher.Client" ? Help using ClassSecurityInfo...

Hi , i have a problem using ClassSecurityInfo in my python product for CMF. In my product i use the sintax below: --------------------------------------------- class my_class(Implicit, Persistent, RoleManager, Item): meta_type = 'my_type' security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.setPermissionDefault('my permission', ('role1, 'role2')) ... ... Globals.InitializeClass(my_class) --------------------------------------------- when i first instance the product the permission specified in setPermissionDefault are not set at all. I'm using Zope 2.5 on a Debian box w/ Postgresql and loving it. Getting the drivers in was a pain but w/ persistence it paid off. I used the Znolk product to create forms from Postgres tables and I'm a hero. I have alot of Oracle help and pgadmin II and Postgres ODBC w/ Windoze2k works great to use MS Access. Don't know much else... but Postgresql seemed to be the DBA's Open Source choice after using Oracle in business. It's all up to how you have to support it in my mind. Too many contortions = too much time to deliver. DBase recommendation

I know this is a bit off topic, but I plan to change my zopeback end database from MySQL. Need subselects and dynamic replication. Any recommendations between PostGres and Interbase. Compatibility with zope251 a must. Any comments TIA Dave

Rendering files with exception

Hi all, I want to show structured text files uploaded via FTP, many files in one directory rendered as single file with standard header and footer. But if in directory exist an index.htm file (exception), then current index.htm file was shown without header and footer instead render of STX documents. You need to install it in the Zope version of python. Run setup in the ZMySQLDA directory with the version of python you are using for Zope.
