MySQL password scheme
by Dirk Nehring 26 Jun '02

26 Jun '02

Hi, we have had a problem to use an existing userbase stored in a MySQL table where the passwords are stored with the default encryption of PASSWORD() (hash code function). I solved this problem by using SimpleUserFolder and extend the password schemes zope with a MySQL password scheme. If you are interested, yu can found it under collector issue 435. I hope the Zope guys will include it into the core rsn, the patch is short and uncritical. Dirk

ANNOUNCE: Pound - reverse proxy and load balancer - v0.4
by Robert Segall 25 Jun '02

25 Jun '02

This is to announce the release of Pound v0.4. Changes from previous version: - added code to disable a dead back-end server and to re-enable it once it comes back on-line. - added HTTP/1.1 chunked transfer mode. This presumes a back-end HTTP/1.1 server (which Zope is). - added client time-outs to prevent blatant denial-of-service attacks. - major code restructuring. What is Pound (from the Web page) - a reverse-proxy: it passes requests from client browsers to one or more back-end servers. - a load balancer: it will distribute the requests from the client browsers among several back-end servers, while keeping session information. - an SSL wrapper: Pound will decrypt HTTPS requests from client browsers and pass them as plain HTTP to the back-end browsers. - an HTTP/HTTPS sanitizer: Pound will verify requests for correctness and accept only well-formed ones. - an HTTP/1.1 to 1.0 proxy. - a failover-server: should a back-end server fail, Pound will take note of the fact and stop passing requests to it until it recovers. For further information, download, etc. please see http://www.apsis.ch/pound The software is at version 0.4 (beta quality). Further testing (especially under heavy loads), improvements and suggestions are welcome. Pound is distributed under the GPL. Enjoy and let me know how it works for you. -- Robert Segall Apsis GmbH Postfach, Uetikon am See, CH-8707 Tel: +41-1-920 4904

webdav image copy error
by Cindy Reikes 25 Jun '02

25 Jun '02

Hi, I'm trying to copy a lot of images into Zope, and I want to use M$ web folders to drag and drop. I can create and delete folders in Zope through this, but every time I drag an image into the Zope folder, I get "an error occurred copying some or all of the selected files.", and nothing is copied into the Zope folder. I have the WebDav permissions set to allow for lock, unlock and access for all users. Help! Thanks, Cindy (version is 2.4.3, running on windows 2000 server) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Calling a DTML Method with arguments
by Howard Hansen 25 Jun '02

25 Jun '02

I needed to send a bunch of emails via Zope today. I figured I would just use the python script I found on ZopeLabs... http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/991178206 ...but that appears to have a problem with email addresses containing hyphens. No good. So I pulled out one of my old dtml methods for sending mail and tried to stick a call to it inside a dtml-in loop. And I got stuck. How do I call the DTML Method? I tried calling it as: <dtml-call "method(arg1='test')">. Didn't like that. I'm calling from a DTML Document, which has its own namespace, so I figured the method would use that, so I tried <dtml-call "method">. This at least began executing the method, though it did give a KeyError on the data from the sequence. I gave up and stuffed the sendmail code inside the loop and called it good. But I'm still wondering how to make this work. Any clues? What have I missed? TIA, Howard Hansen http://howardsmusings.com/categories/zope

version trouble
by Steffen Hausmann 25 Jun '02

25 Jun '02

Hi, I'm working with Zope 2.4.3 on a linux SuSE 7.0 system. I was just editing my homepage using a version ( called 'tmp' ) and 2 different browser windows ( mozilla 0.9.7 ). Then I decided that the changes I had done are ok, saved them and quited the version ( in the first browser window ). After that I found a small mistake in one of my sites and corrected it ( in the second browser window ). Somehow the version was still active and the changes were made inside it. But, it wasn't the same verion. The version the changes were made in is called 'No longer active'. I can start and quit working with that version by starting and quitting the original version tmp. But if I want to save / discard the canges there is just the message 'No unsaved work has been done in this version' The link of the version 'No longer active' points to the root directory of Zope ( I was working in the folder 'hausmann-family' ), but there is no version at all. How can I get rid of this version? Some files are locked and I can't delete them or do anything else with them. Thanks, Steffen -- Es gibt keine perfekten Menschen, nur perfekte Absichten.

Zsync
by Adam Getchell 25 Jun '02

25 Jun '02

Hello again, Never mind ... I just saw the sync tab on one of my servers ... The other server is misbehaving and not displaying the tab. I also found the help on the correctly installed server. *************************** * Adam Getchell AdamG(a)hrrm.ucdavis.edu * System Architect/Programmer (530) 752-1584 * Human Resources Information Systems http://www.hr.ucdavis.edu/ *************************** "Invincibility is in oneself, vulnerability in the opponent." -- Sun Tzu

ZSyncer
by Adam Getchell 25 Jun '02

25 Jun '02

Hello all, This is a pretty basic question, but where is the documentation for using Zsyncer? I've looked on the author's page, but that just lists install instructions and changelogs. I've looked at SourceForge, but there are no documents submited. There's no extra tab or other functions I can tell in the Zope manage interface, and from a cursory review of the source code I don't see an extra URL path (say, 'zsync" published). Pointers to manuals to RTFM would be appreciated ...
