removing newline character from returned python string

I have a python script that transforms the results of a zsql method into xml. The script builds the xml in a python string and returns that string as the scripts output. The problem I have is that the string contains a newline character (\n) which corrupts the xml. I made sure to strip the string before it's returned... XML = XML.strip() return XML ... but the output always contains the newline character. Does anyone have suggestions on how I could fix this? Thanks, Jon

timeout on external methods?

I have a page in Zope which calls a Perl script via an External Method. The perl script takes a long time to complete -- about 8 minutes. After exactly 5 minutes, I see a second perl process launched by Zope. At 8 minutes, the first perl process completes, but I do not see the response in my browser. After 10 minutes, I get "This page cannot be displayed" in my browser, but the second perl process is still running. Does Zope have a timeout that is causing it to re-try the perl script after 5 minutes? Is this adjustable?

FTP and Object Type

When I upload a file to Zope via ftp, it seems to decide automatically the object type. Is there any way to dictate what object type should be used for all files uploaded to a specific folder? Thanks, Chris Bruce

Xindice, Zope, Formulator, ideas ???

Hi all, I installed this week apache's XML database Xindice with XML-RPC plugin. I have running also a Zope version with XML-RPC python library. I want to combine Xindice and Zope. I thought that Formulator would be a good idea for a base of input for new and changable fields. I'm looking forward for any ideas in this scope and want to discuss the possibilities. Just a word of caution on MS Passport. Be sure to read the Terms of Use. While they have improved somewhat, they are still regressive to the point that you may want to consult with your lawyer before signing up. I found some posting about using Awstats w/ Zope http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/Main?SearchView=&Query… ... but... Does anyone have a simple "How-to". I didn't quite understand all the postings Running Apache:80 Tomcat:8080 Zope:9090 I'd like to keep them separate and get stats on only the Zope Server hits etc... Our SA's have Awstats running with Apache but need to understand the awstats.conf for Zope Any help greatly appreciated Eric Dunn

Hi Bill. What you are comparing is apples and oranges. Zope is is a web services platform-- and you can use products like Dreamweaver and Flash to add and edit Zope content-- and Zope serves it up to the web. They all work fairly well together, and you (may) need both-- the server platform and the content creation tools, i.e. Dreamweaver (or the web editor of your choice) and perhaps Flash (or Director etc...). Zope does have it's own content creation interface, which is improving, but is pretty minimalistic, and not something for the average interested but technology challenged teacher. Motivated teachers and kids seem to do quite well with Flash and Dreamweaver. Great! Thanks to all who responded...and to those that did not but were thinking of the answer. I must have picked up brain waves, too. I made sure to use the name:list= convention for setting up the main variable on each of the forms. It works fine now no matter what comes in from the dropdown selections.
