Populating a "huge" ZODB

Hi everybody, How would you populate a "huge" ZODB with hundreds of thousands of objects which have no specific reason to be hierarchically distributed in a complex tree of folders and sub-folders? They could in fact all be in the same folder. It seems to be OK for hundreds of objects, but afterwards there is an incremental cost : each time you add a new object, there is a check on the existence of an identical ID before adding/creating it. When you reach the level of already existing thousands/tens of thousands/hundreds of thousands objects in the same folder it seems you are in serious trouble... I know the question is a bit naive, and that usually you have a data structure which dictates a naturally "hierarchy" of folders which means that no folder would contain maybe more than a few hundred objects or sub-folders. Maybe I should "artificially" design an ID structure which would correspond to a hierarchy : for instance ojects would be identified by numbers with 7 digits, each digit corresponding to a lower level in the hierarchy? It means that an object with ID 2343789 would be placed in the "/2/3/4/3/7/8/9" sub-folder. What do you think? Any other idea? accessing custom properties of file objects

I've been following the Zopebook and I'm trying to customize the file library. I have divided the files up into sections by adding a section property to each file. Here's a portion of the code: <div tal:condition="python:item.section == 'c'" tal:omit-tag> <td> <a href="http://sample" tal:attributes="href item/getId" tal:content="item/getId">File_link</a> </td> <td tal:content="item/file_size">Type</td> <td tal:content="item/title">Description</td> <td tal:content="item/date_mod" align="center">Last modified</td> </div> What's really strange is that this works: <div tal:condition="python:item.title == 'an_actual_file.zpt'" tal:omit-tag> I've found some links on "pre-condition" but from what I've read (http://www.zope.org/Members/dgeorgieff/howto_precondition) this seems to apply to dtml. How do I acess properties which I have created but aren't normally a part of an object? tia, Jesse

User who changed object

How can I determine the user who last changed/created an object (as I can see it in the undo Tab of the ZMI)? I have googled around but nothing found... Juergen

Does anyone know how to set up dtml docs or methods to headers and footers form a document. example: http://zopeserver:8080/OPS/content/testNewsItem9/testNewsItem9?pp=1 I have the code but can't figure out how to set it up I found javascript that will print the page (http://www.hypergurl.com/printpage.html) but that didn't meet needs. adding "?pp=1" to the end of a URL doesn't give results like I see on http://www.zope.org/Members/NIP/ZMailIn/CMFMailIn_available?pp=1 Any help greatly appreciated Eric Dunn

Python Product doesn't appear in Products list in Control Panel

I've just written a new on-disk Product, only it doesn't appear in the control panel products listing. I've got a ZEO server and client setup - I've tried having the product in both the client SOFTWARE_HOME lib dir and its own personal Products dir. The initialize() gets called in both cases, but the product doesn't appear in the products listing. There's no errors displayed on server or client startup. Anyone got a hint or clue to spare? Digest Auth or SSL?

Hi everyone, I'm wondering what experiences people have had trying to implement digest authentication or SSL on their Zope sites. Here's my situation: I have ZServer proxied by Apache. Areas of our site are password-protected and require a valid user. Unfortunately, this authentication is Basic and cleartext usernames/passwords are sent. Obviously less than ideal. At present, acceptable, since our website user database is independent from our actual user accounts for the lab in which we work. Some day, I would like to get Zope to use LDAP for user authentication - but there is no way that could happen unless authentication for the website was seriously secure. There is some third-party IP in our lab and NDAs aside, they generally don't like to find gaping security holes in our system. I understand Digest has some definite shortcomings and to my knowledge, isn't even implemented in Zope. But with HTTPS, I have another problem. Specifically, not all of the site is password-protected. I don't want every visitor using HTTPS to browse the site. I only want secure authentication for password-protected areas of the site. So when a user goes to www.mysite.com/private, he will be authenticated securely. Any suggestions or pointers would be much appreciated... thanks Paul. -- horbal(a)atips.ca

I'm trying to write a script to get the date created for all objects (folders & dtml docs) So I can then sort by most recent date and output that...(i.e. 3 most recent dtml docs created from 4 different folders)

how to return a new object from a pythonscript ?

Hi, I have a python-script getArtikel, which return items from a ZPatterns-Rack, like so: item=context.getItem("theItemId") return item this works fine, now I want to override some of the attributes of the item: item=context.getItem("theItemId") setattr(item.text,item.text_english) # the attribute text_english exists return item but that results in an error: attributeless object assign or del. I solved that problem by creating a dictionary, and "copying" the attributes into it. but now - of course - my python expressions python: here.getArtikel.date.strftime('%d.%m.%Y') in the pagetemplates complain that there is no attribute "date", and I have to change all those attribute references to here.getArtikel['date'].strftime('%d.%m.%Y') I know that I cannot change object-attributes in scripts. Is there a simple solution for this ? Or is it simply not possible ? ZPT + ZSQL?

Probably a newbie question, but couldn't find the answer on zope.org... I'd like to use ZPT with data in a relational db. ZSQL methods use dtml vars, so I'm wondering: . Is ZSQL the only/recommended method for ZPT access to a relational DB? . Any tutorials/references, etc. that cover use of the two together? Thanks, Scott.
