Hi, I have installed latest ExtFile on Zope 2.3.3 running under Python 2.1.3. weird commit issue

Hi, We've a Py script (Win2000, Zope 2.5.0) that: - loops through a folder looking for certain objects - these objects are copied to a sub folder using manage_clone - then that sub folder is exported using another python script Problem: In the exported file, all copied objects *except* the last one are there. The last one is there in the sub folder. Finally we solved by issuing a commit after all manage_clones and before the export is called. Question: Should we have to do this? Since the whole script runs as a transaction, shouldn't export be able to see all the cloned objects in the sub folder? Any tips and suggestions are really appreciated. - vsb http://vsbabu.org/

Thanks Paul, for clearing up this debate we have been having, viz: >> Processes != threads I was of that view. Built from scratch, considered a package, but there is not yet a V2.1.3 available. We have been runing this environment in production for several months, and on openBSD for 3 months or so. Multithreading issue - python, zope, opensbd, et al

Hi all, Have scanned lots of places to find a clear answer, so as a last resort, am asking the group.... First assumption - if multithreading was enabled, we would see a number of python/zope tasks running (ps, top, etc) when numerous simultaneous requests come in... right? (as we do with apache - lots of httpd processes). We are using python/zope on both Solaris and openBSD, and in looking at the detail log of Python configure on either, I see compile and then loader failures (different details for each OS though). Meanwhile the python build process goes merrily along and creates a python evironment, unbeknown to us at the time. (yes I know one shouls scour the logs, but time is always an issue...). So with openBSD, there seems a requirement for both pthread.h (found) and thread.h (not found). I assume with these that if they wre both found we might expect multithreading to work. I've also noted in passing: - similar problems have arisen with MySQL/Python environments... - something about locking in python that might prevent multithreading anyway (maybe a red herring). Versions in use: openBSD 3.0, 3.1, Solaris 8 python 2.1.3 Zope 2.5.0, 2.5.1 I note that for openBSD 3.0 there is a thread package for python 2.1.1 but I assume that the crash issues with Zope from a few months ago preclude me from using this. Any advice gratefully accepted - like many people I don't know everything. :) cheers Graham

Inporting HTML-ish sites

I'm about to import into Zope (possibly Zope-CMF) a largish site currently prototyped in HTML. The import will be one-way (we'll never move back to HTML) so we can make whatever changes are needed/wanted in the site representation. Has anyone written a smart import package that does anything more than copy upload files to DTML-documents (or their template equivalent) and map directories into folders. I did a cursory search and found nothing of this ilk. I have seen reverences to a "sitecopy" product but did not find it. Thanks. -dra

ZFirebirdDA & SQL Dialect 3

Hi Everyone, Just a quick question. Has anyone had any experience using Interbase SQL Dialect 3 with Zope? I would like to use the DATE and TIME types that only dialect 3 has. I cant seem to browse the tables from the ZMI and all of my querys fail saying the specified table is not found. Any ideas? List attribute inside of a product...

I'm writing a product that needs a list of items inside it, e.g ['abc', '456', '243']. The list stays intact if the server is up. But if I shutdown and restart, the list is cleared again. Here's some of my code: class Store(Folder.Folder, PortalContent, DefaultDublinCoreImpl): """ Store Class """ meta_type = 'Store' _isDiscussable = 1 icon = PortalContent.icon categoryList = [] def manage_addCategory(self, id, title, REQUEST = None): self.categoryList.append(id) Is this the reason my list is getting reset to empty on restart? I don't understand. If I have a text attribute and set it to empty in the class code, then it's fine. I get my saved attribute. But my list is blown away. Jeff

Referring to an image, css, etc., within a Python product.

How might I go about that? If I have a dtml/ directory that contains all of my DTML methods, how can those methods refer to image files etc? As a specific example, let's say I have manage_MyThing.dtml. How does that DTML object get at myImage.gif in the same dtml/ directory? And DTMLFile doesn't work on ZPTs does it? To do production Zope hosting right, I'd strongly suggest Squid. Here's 4 things you can't do with ZServer alone: Want security? Use Squid, access lists, and a redirector (URL rewriter). Squid also handles various sorts of DoS and malformed HTTP request without issue. Want virtual hosting? Use Squid, a redirector, and a Virtual Host Monster. Want page caching? Use Squid and Zope's HTTP cache manager. Want load-balancing of multiple ZEO servers? Use Squid and Toby's ICP ZServer patches. Apache/mod_proxy will do the first 3 on that list just fine as well. I was under the impression that the usual Apache approach simply delegates to the Zope native webserver without doing much of anything except eating machine cycles.
