Recommendations for Banner Ad software
by Itamar Shtull-Trauring 28 May '02

I need a system which allows users to create new ads, specify how many times a banner will run, and allows users to see how many views and clickthroughs, and of course the usual things (display the ad in cache-busting way, etc.) Any recommended systems for this? None of the banner systems I found on zope.org are good enough for this, as far as I can tell.

Document Management in Zope
by Oliver Marx 28 May '02

28 May '02

So Zope has this nice feature of history tracking objects in Zope. I can see what changes there have been made over time. Has this feature been extended to external documents? It would be rather cool if one could use Zope for document management. \Oliver For those about to Zope - I salute you.

Im trying to put together a management frontend for a product of ours. But i agree that apart from the actual data, ZODb is a fine choise. Ok, Bible it is.

Books?
by Jan Johansson 28 May '02

28 May '02

Im tossing up another zope book. I have "Zope web application construction kit", and frankly, i found that a bit dissapointing in trying to figure out how zope really works. I guess what i need to make friends with is Multiuser database (mySQL) driven websites. So, any comments on, say, "The Book of Zope" and/or "The Zope Bible"?

Strange log messages...
by Josef Meile 28 May '02

Hi, since I installed the new Zope, I've seen several times the same error message in the log file: ------ 2002-05-27T11:47:13 ERROR(200) ZServer Bad HTTP request: 'GET /cgi-bin/formmail. pl?email=f2(a)aol.com&subject=www.mysite.com/cgi-bin/formmail.pl&recipient= elulis2(a)aol.com&msg=w00t HTTP/1.1Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded' Does anybody know what it mean? Thanks in advanced, Josef.

external validators
by Ian McMeans 28 May '02

28 May '02

Hello! I'm having some trouble with external validators. This may or may not have something to do with my earlier troubles re. forms. Previously, (before I knew that plone's join_form.pt was using formulator) I was doing manual validation on the fields from join_form.pt. I put code like this in plone_form_scripts\validate_registration: if REQUEST.get('field_shackname', '').startswith('anon@'): errors['shackname'] = 'Sorry... no anons allowed.' Not very pretty, but I didn't know any better. I started getting some odd errors that I am (still) unable to fix, and nobody had anything to say about those errors on the zope list. So I started reading the source code until I found formulator, which looked like a better alternative to manually checking. So I added an external_validator attribute to my form fields in my join_form, then wrote the external_validator as an external script. However, my join_form page never seems to fail from the external validator. I changed the external validator to write a small file to my hard drive, so that I could detect whether or not the function had been called. And the weird thing is that the function isn't being called. Here is the function: def validate_shackname(REQUEST): open(r'f:\new.txt', 'w').write('foo foo') return "ERROR" Here is how I (try) to use it in my join_form.pt: <input type="text" name="field_shackname" size="25" value="shackname" tal:attributes="value shackname" external_validator="validate_shackname"> validate_shackname is the name of the external script, as well as the name of one of it's functions. Is it correct that the function takes REQUEST as a parameter? Is there something I'm doing wrong? and I've still got the error from earlier, where the form doesn't complain when a field is invalid. I don't know if that's related...
