If I understand your question, you are asking how to set up Apache to transparently proxy FTP connections to a Zope server, presumably with the objective of hiding the Zope FTP service behind Apache in the same way that you are hiding the Zope HTTP service. Most of the published stuff about proxying Zope with Apache is about transparent proxying of HTTP requests to Zope and isn't, in my view, applicable to proxying FTP. I am fairly certain you cannot use ProxyPass/RewriteRule based transparent proxying by Apache for what you want. In this transparent proxying mode the ProxyPass/RewriteRule will only see HTTP requests. That would mean you had to get Apache to do something something like rewriting the incoming HTTP URLs to the Apache server to FTP URLs it passes to the Zope server. The problem is that I do not think that Apache can handle converting between the protocols in this way, dealing with the different reponses involved etc. In a brief experiment with my Apache (version 1.3.14) the Apache child process crashes when I just try rewriting an incoming HTTP URL to an outgoing FTP URL with a RewriteRule; you may have a better experience if you try it. You could configure your Apache server as a full, non-transparent, proxy server using 'ProxyRequest on' and use related directives to control its proxying activity. Then with the client browsers configured to explicitly direct FTP requests to the Zope server to the Apache proxy server, you could put the Zope FTP service behind the Apache-acting-as-a-full-blown-proxy server. This approach would also allow an otherwise unaddressable Zope server to be reached by clients, i.e. as long as Apache can access the Zope server it doesn't matter if the Zope server is not directly reachable or addressable by the client. But I suspect this is not what you are trying to achieve and may well mess up your user's browser proxy set up. There are ways of dealing with this but its all getting a touch complicated given where we started from I guess it all depends on what you need to achieve and the price you are willing to pay in terms of effort. Best of luck. >-- >Jiann-Ming Su jsu2(a)emory.edu 404-712-2603 >Development Team Systems Administrator >General Libraries Systems Division

Displaying the date in dtml method
by Wayne Pascoe 12 Mar '02

12 Mar '02

Hi all, I am trying to display the date in a dtml method. I am currently using <dtml-var expr="_.DateTime('GMT')"> but this is too verbose. It prints the following : 2002/03/12 15:40:45.7868 GMT I am looking for a function that will just print 2002/03/12 Is there anything that will do this, or do I have to take another route ? Store text directly in an DTML Document???
by Breitenreicher, Marc 12 Mar '02

12 Mar '02

Hi, can anyone tell me, if it's possible to store text out of a variable directly in an dtml-document?? I know, I can directly change the title of a document with the following code: <dtml-call "_.getitem(mydocument).manageProperties(title=REQUEST.get('new_title'))"> This writes the text of the variable 'new_title' into the title of the dtml-document 'mydocument'. I suppose, it is possible to change the content of a document the same way. But I don't know the attributs name. Who can help?? Greetings Marc

AW: [Zope] Store text directly in an DTML Document???
by Breitenreicher, Marc 12 Mar '02

12 Mar '02

I know. I've seen it, but this doesn't really help me. I tried it with this method, but after saving the changes, the user returns to the management screen. And that should not happen. I want to keep save, the the user only walks in my selfcreated forms. Therefore I'm building my own editing form, where the user, after saving changes, should return to a document, defined by me. That's why I tried the 'manageProperties' method. > -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- > Von: Maik Jablonski [SMTP:maik.jablonski@uni-bielefeld.de] > Gesendet am: Dienstag, 12. I solved this problem in a similar manner, but in a slightly different order: 1, 2 (Im using 3.23.49a "max"), 7 (From http://www.activestate.com/Products/Download/Get.plex?id=ActivePython) 8, 11, 3, then 4. I dont end up with the "broken package" problem you describe, and things do seem to be working. Bob. Keep it on the list! So, you need python 2.1.2, plus header files. seb On Wed, 2002-03-06 at 10:54, Julian Baker wrote: > I'm using Python 2.1 > Digital UNIX ver4 Alpha > > seb bacon wrote: > > > > Did you take heed of this in the README.txt...? > > > > * Zope requires Python 2.1 > > > > (Hmm, come to think of it, that should read python 2.1.2). > > > > seb > > > > On Tue, 2002-03-05 at 17:06, Julian Baker wrote: > > > Hi all > > > > > > I'm having problems with installing Zope 2.5.0 src on a UNIX platform > > > (python 2.1) > > > when i enter the compile command > > > > > > python wo_pcgi.py > > > > > > or > > > > > > python w_pcgi.py > > > > > > it displays the following error after a while... > > > > > > 9_1_Splitter.o'. Kube and ZPT
by Tom Nixon 12 Mar '02

12 Mar '02

Has anyone on the list been using the Kube product? I have built a simple site using folders for the main site areas and Kubes to hold the document content. The structure looks like this: Root |- index_html (Page Template) |- WhoWeAre (Folder) | |- CompanyInfo (Kube) | '- People (Kube) '- WhatWeDo (Folder) |- Products (Kube) '- Services (Kube) If I call http://zopeserver/WhoWeAre/CompanyInfo the index_html template is rendered using content from the CompanyInfo Kube - Great. BUT... When Someone calls http://zopeserver/WhoWeAre I would like it to default to the CompanyInfo Kube. I cannot create an index_html inside the WhoWeAre folder because we need it to acquire index_html from the root for presentation. I also thought about making WhoWeAre into a Kube which contains the other Kubes but this seems wrong to me because WhoWeAre is part of the site structure, and not content in its own right. Can anyone suggest anything else? T.
