Re: [Zope3-dev] Offer to Help Write User Documentation/Tutorials
by Eron Lloyd 11 Mar '02

I too, would also like to assist in making sure that Zope3 is well-documented from the start. Particularly the API docs. If you look at projects that are very well documented, like QT, you can understand a large part of the reason why they are quite successful. This would guve me a chance to better understand the new code, too. A good living document that I always wished I had was an explanation of the code's structure, where config files and persistant storage folders are, etc. Looking at the CVS checkouts, it looks to be *much* different in Zope 3. Just list some things that need work, and I'll see what I can do. RE: [Zope] How a method only returns the data of an image
by Dean Stautberg 11 Mar '02

I am doing something on my site which is similar to the original request in this thread (get a method to return the exact data of an Image object), except that I use it to get a random image from a folder. I used the index_html() method of Image, and I put it in a Python Script as follows: request = container.REQUEST response = request.RESPONSE images = context['images'].objectValues ('Image') image = random.choice (images) response.write (image.index_html(request,response)) I don't know if this is better or worse than the suggestions mentioned already, but since it's different, I thought I would share it. I don't seem to need to set the Content-Type or Content-Length headers with this strategy, though. -Dean > >Message: 40 >From: "Trevor Toenjes" <zope(a)toenjes.com> >To: "Joel Burton" <joel(a)joelburton.com>, "Trevor Toenjes" <zope(a)toenjes.com> >Cc: <zope(a)zope.org> >Subject: RE: [Zope] How a method only returns the data of an image >Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 10:34:18 -0500 > >Clever. :) I think this approach will work for now. error messages
by Shilpa Shenvi 11 Mar '02

Hello, When I start up Zope on my Windows 95 system, some messages get sent to a DOS window. When there are import errors, however, I cannot always trace all of them because they are not retained in the window' s buffer. Is there an easy way to get these messages into some other file? Is there a way of increasing the window's buffer so that even if the messages are sent here, they are not quickly scrolled out? Thank you, Shilpa

How a method only returns the data of an image
by Trevor Toenjes 11 Mar '02

11 Mar '02

I need to make a method act like the clone of an image. Without extending the Image class...(I would like to do this in DTML or python-script) I am simply trying to get a method to return the exact data of an Image object, so it can be used in normal HTML <IMG src="myimage.jpg?somevariable">. If the Image is a method, it can execute some logic based on the QUERY_STRING. example: DTML_Method "myimage.jpg" # should look and smell like a JPG to the browser (but also execute some logic without # effecting the image header data) ---- | <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-type', 'image/jpeg')"> | <dtml-var expr="therealimage.data"> | <dtml-var somelogic> ---- But this doesn't return the proper data or Content-Length: "therealimage" is a standard Zope Image object. Any help is greatly appreciated... -Trevor

VirtualHost Monster

ZCatalog question... possible bug
by Andrew Sydelko 11 Mar '02

11 Mar '02

I'm using ZCatalogs and I seem to have come upon either a bug or a feature that I'm not liking. I have these three items in cataloged: /company/101578039896 /company/101578039896/101578056020 /company/101578039896/101578050712 Each is a folder with properties. The first one has a property called latestRevision. The second and third objects don't have the latestRevision property. When I add a meta_data column (latestRevision) for the catalog, all three objects get the latestRevision property that the first object has. (In other words, it seems that the 2nd and 3rd objects are inheriting properties from the folder above them.) It doesn't seem like it should work that way. Any ideas? --andy.

Is there any Microsoft SQL Server native driver for Zope?
by Nicolas Rodriguez 11 Mar '02

11 Mar '02

I'll like to migrate my JDBC driver source code to Zope in order to use a native Microsoft SQL Server connection (using TCP/IP) but I don't want to start from scratch. Is there any Microsoft SQL Server native driver for Zope (pre-alpha, alpha, beta, etc)? I looked in Zope website and the only thing I found is a ODBC Database Adapter. TIA, Nicolas.-
