- Zope - Zope lists

Hi Eron, Sorry this went unanswered for so long. Just reading the lists is enough to keep me hopping lately. When I asked Steve if he had replied to you, we discovered that there had never even been a post about our book on zope-announce! Check there for an _even_more_generalized_ blurb. On 12/21/2001 Eron wrote: > Does anyone have a recommendation for "best practices" > for implementing complicated Web patterns like Session Tracking, > Member Profile management (how to store the back-end data), > Multi-cookie storage/retrieval, and "shopping cart" paradigms? > I know that Zope (and specifically CMF) provides for these applications, > but I'd like a resource on the core concepts & principles. > I'm aware that New Riders is publishing another Zope book entitled > "Zope: Web Application Development and Content Management", > and could this be exactly what I'm looking for? Steve Spicklemire, > would you mind whetting our appetites? Well, the term "best practices" does show up in the book here and there... Specifically, several of those topics are covered in advanced chapters (section III), with a bias toward ZPatterns based solutions. As the Zope 3 "Components" model rolls out the ease of integrating Zope modules, and related data, that were developed independently will likely improve. At the time when our book was written, the use of techniques such as ZPatterns seemed a most effective option. There is a detailed example of merging a membership list with an E-Commrce tool (Steve's emarket) in chapters 11, 12, and on integrating user authentication in chapter 13. Regardless, time spent grokking just about any useful Zope/Python technologies will yield a better understanding of the problem domains, and how to render objectish solutions. Thanks for the interest! Jerry S. (for Steve, Kevin & Kim too . . . )

Re: [Zope] Can't have custom 404 (NameNotFound) Errors?

That is incorrect. It happens anytime there is a NameNotFound error, try it for yourself before. The standard error show just fine for everything else. Getting ZClass instances from Zope via XML-RPC ??
by marq＠europa.com 17 Feb '02

I am wondering how to get ZClass instances from Zope to a Java XML-RPC client. 1. I have (and please forgive the Java-like pseudocode; i'm new to Python) a product with a ZClass call Invoice (meta = "Invoice Main") class Invoice { String invoice_name int invoice_id date invoice_date } 2. I have a Python Script (named 'invoice') that goes: results=[] for object in context.Projects.objectValues('Invoice Main'): results.append(object) return results 3. When i test this script directly in Zope, i get: [<Project instance at 014A00F0>, <Project instance at 01832800>, <Project instance at 015A2D80>] 4. If i call this from my XML-RPC client, i get the following Java/Zope error: Unexpected Zope exception: cannot marshal <extension class Acquisition.ImplicitAcquirerWrapper at 00C25140> objects org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcException: Unexpected Zope exception: cannot marshal <extension class Acquisition.ImplicitAcquirerWrapper at 00C25140> org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcException: Unexpected Zope exception: cannot marshal <extension class Acquisition.Impl icitAcquirerWrapper at 00C25140> objects at org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcClient$Worker.execute(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcClient.execute(Unknown Source) at TreeExpandEventDemo.init(TreeExpandEventDemo.java:49) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) It seems that it's not getting actual instances, but references to them. I don't know. I am assuming that the results array of objects above should come back as a Java hashtable, per this page: http://xml.apache.org/xmlrpc/types.html Anyone explain what's going on and how i get the ZClass instances (or Python class instances) out of Zope and into my little applet?? Can't have custom 404 (NameNotFound) Errors?
by Chris Bruce 17 Feb '02

17 Feb '02

Well, It appears (Zope 2.4) that one can't catch the NameNotFound Error? Is this true? Whenever I point to a non-existent page, the error message is not the standard_error_html, in fact it appears to be a message that is hard coded in the python code. Is there any way to have a custom 404 message? Thanks, Chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hiii Harry Why don't u just use the tag newline_to_br when u need it...? Example: =================================== <html> <body> <form action="../DoStuff"> <input type=hidden value="<dtml-var My_Text>"> <table> <tr><td><dtml-var My_Text newline_to_br> <tr><td><input type=submit> </table> </form> </body> </html> =================================== Hope this helps... Printable Web Forms and Dynamic Queries

Good Morning, I have a report with mulitple columns of data. Problem is that the report is too wide to print out. http://www.ajccc.org/Reports/Kbm/fsukmssy.htm . At the same time I would like the user to have control over the contents of the report. The contents is made up of raw data and calculated data. What would you guys (and gals) suggest if I needed multiple reports? Would Pluggable Brains be the most maintainable way of doing this? Thanks. Joseph
