Authentication wierdness
by Joachim Schmitz 15 Feb '02

I have a setup like this Zope 2.43 running on Linux: / acl_users (standard Zope) PrivatFolder acl_users (LoginManager) I also created a product MySite, with the ZClasses MyFolder and MyDocument. When I now do PrivatFolder/manage The LoginForm of LoginManager pops up, I can loggin as user "test" who has the role manager. I get the ZMI for this level I see that I am logged in as "test". I can add a DTML method for example. But when select MyDocument from the products to add, the Authentication box from the root pops up. When I cancel this I get the error message (since I am using ZDebug): Unauthorized: User Anonymous User is not allowed to access PrivatFolder/MyDocument_factory ... The user, whose roles are ('Anonymous',), would need to have one of the following roles: ('Manager',) So why I am the Anomyos User in this case, when the ZMI shows that I am logged in as test. Who has the role Manager. Re: [Zope] slow authentication popup in 2.5.0: thanks

That makes sense. So if i put my sendmail tag inside the standard_error_message, but outside of any <dtml-if> construct, i should get email everytime anybody does a login, isn't it? I checked this and yes, that is correct ;) But this is new, isn't it? Jerome Alet wrote: >Are your MailHost instances using the same SMTP host whatever Zope server >you test on ? Yes. >Could you try to send a message from each host using the MailHost code >outside of Zope and see the result ? (I don't know if this is feasable or >not, however) I dont understand everything of the question. There is only one host. I have used Python 2.2 code (with smtplib) before from my winnt 4 machine to do a mailing. It was without problems. But this is not the mailhost code. Do you mean: directly in python something like: import mailhost and figure out from code what to do? Probably this is what Chris tries to explain with the pdb message? Jens wrote more: >your standard_error_message tries to send mail and that's where the DNS >lookup stuff comes in. i have to second chris in his opinion that this is >due to DNS lookup problems on that particular machine. Ok. Yes, sending an email with <dtml-sendmail> cost in both 2.4.3 and 2.5.0 about 20 seconds on the two NT machines. So i have DNS lookup problems that became the cause of the slow authentication popup box, Chris was right from the start. Chris advised me to try the debugger. I'll do that, it's new for me. But at the moment i am terribly tired. Thank you for all of your interest and help. You are helping even when you think it is a somewhere DNS-configuration error and not a Zope problem!

Re: [Zope] upgrade to python 2.2

I would change my Zope, too, if I have to. But all the complaining about bugs in Zope 2.4+ I have heard in this mailing list has kept me from doing so until now. So if I want os.popen2(...) to os.popen4(...) in my python, which Zope and python would you recommend? MailHost broken because of Python 2.1.2 and socket
by Christian Theune 15 Feb '02

15 Feb '02

Hi. I have a problem with Zope 2.4.4b and Python 2.1.2: Using the Mailhost doesn't work, because the smtplib failes on using the socket with the function "sendall", which is documented in the python 2.1.2 docs to be available. But checking with a dir(socket) shows me that there is no such function. Do you have any hints for me? upgrade to python 2.2
by Horst Wald 15 Feb '02

15 Feb '02

Hi, I am using Suse Linux 7.0, Python 1.5.2, Zore 2.3.2 and would like to upgrade to python 2.2 . Will I be able to do so without rebuilding my Zope? Do I have to remove my old python first? Any other problems I'm running into? Horst _________________________________________________________________ Testen Sie MSN Messenger für Ihren Online-Chat mit Freunden: http://messenger.msn.de

slow authentication popup in 2.5.0: dtml-sendmail in standard_error_message on winnt 4
by H.de.Wit＠SFK.NL 15 Feb '02

15 Feb '02

>AFAIK Hans is doing all this testing on a Windows 98 machine, not his >production system, so it's reasonable that he'd experience differences >between his production setup and his test setup. It is a windows nt machine not a w98. More testing: Clean installations, only with a mailhost it is de <dtml-sendmail> in the standard_error_message that does it. Removing it from the standard_error_message makes the authentication popup show immediately. In 2.4.3 the <dtml-sendmail> is not causing a pauze in the authentication popup to show. I took a different machine, also a windows nt 4.0 machine. The same. Then i tested it on our production server (don't tell my boss). That is a windows 2000 machine. There the problem does not show up. Ah, could it be OS dependent? Another windows 2000 machine No problem A windows 95 machine. It took 8 seconds for the authentication popup to show, without the sendmail it popped up immediately. Why would a sendmail in an error_message cause the authentication popup to wait for 25 seconds to show up,? even in the case that there is a misconfiguration of ..things.. I don't see the connection Is it OS related? It seems to be. Suggestions for more tests? Houston, we have forked - ZMySQLDA keeps braking
by Micah Martin 15 Feb '02

I realize that this has been discussed here before but I was not able to find the information needed. I've tried the ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=PYTHON trick to no avail. The sympton is that zope restarts for some reason and when it restarts, it cannot import the ZMySQLDA product.... wondering how people tackle this in Zope
by Tom Deprez 15 Feb '02

15 Feb '02

Hi, People want to make here some teaching files, which can be read from any PC. So they were told to use html. and to use a database to make references to pages... But they don't have any knowledge of html, etc! They work with MSWord etc... Now, I'm wondering how this can be done in a more object manner... but I've problems to find out how much 'object-oriented' I've to work... The teaching files consist of pages with text and images. The amout of text boxes and images can be different. I don't know, but probably the best way is just to use html for the layout? Or is there a better way? Inside these pages would also be now and then links which go to another page... is there a way to not hard-code this link? Problably with using the catalog and search for content. Which experience to most people have to catalog such dtml_document or ZPT? do you use seperate objects for keywords, etc..? Or so you just catalog the whole document? Now, they will use html, but aren't there better ways, which give nice results as well? ie the use of structured text, or something else? Or would converting the word documents to pdf and then put these pdf's as objects inside zope? Do people have experience it this? Thanks, Tom.

Referencing properties of child items
by Kevin Carlson 15 Feb '02

15 Feb '02

I have a small application that is attempting to populate a portion of a page with the value of a property that belongs to a child item. I have passed the ID of the child item into the dtml page that is handling the request and can properly render the child item ( a jpeg) but cannot seem to extract a text property from the child item and have it display. I am calling the dtml like this: http://localhost:8080/photoAlbum/xxx/yyy/test_html?pic=01 where the pic value represents the id of the picture I want to display. Each pic has a property named "desc" that contains some text I want to display. I have tried numerous things but can't seem to get to the property value. Can anyone offer a solution? Thanks, Kevin
