The "correct" version of python for running Zope 2.5.0 stably can be had in RPM format here: http://www.python.org/2.1.2/rpms.html I'd suggest downloading and "rpm --rebuild"ing python2.1-2.1.2-1.src.rpm Python 2.1.2 installs as "python2.1" and can therefore coexist with python 1.5.2 "python" and python 2.2 "python2" As far as Zope 2.5.0 goes... I will be releasing a Zope 2.5.0 src RPM to Jeff Rush shortly. After he QAs, fixes and blesses that src RPM I imagine some new RPMs will appear at: http://www.taupro.com/Downloads/Zope/ This should all happen (hopefully) within the next week or so. I am using RedHat 7.2 with python 1.5.2.rpm. I want to use Zope ver 2.5 , which I believe uses python 2.1. I have been told I can install 2.1 on the same box, and tell Zope to use it. I have looked around for docs on this, but must not know my way around the archives. Using images from my_Product
by Luis Martín Argañaraz 09 Feb '02

Hi, I have the next structure in my product My_Product /My_Product /www /page.dtml ... /img /my_img.gif ... /My_Pruduct.py ... I've define in My_Product.py a python class with the same name and inside this class I define what I show next: my_img = ImageFile('img/my_img.gif', globals()) In page.dtml I try to insert my_img with this sintax: <dtml-var my_img> This doesn't work. my_img appear as a broken image when I saw page.dtml This work when I use the same method to insert a piece of code DTML but doesn't work with an image. What I am doing wrong? Thanks in advanced Martin

zope 2.5.0 install problem
by Douglas Carnall 09 Feb '02

09 Feb '02

Hi, I'm running a Linux Slackware 7.1 box over SSH. I'm trying to get Zope 2.5.0 and CMF 1.2 installed so I can play physician beta-tester for Jon Edward's medzope project. Over the last week in my copious free time I have tried: a) the default binary (Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86.tgz) b) downloading the source, compiling, and installing the source c) even downloaded and compiled Python 2.1.2 Whichever way I slice it, I can get Zope to run, but the startup script fails to complete, thus: > root@carnall:/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86# ./start > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:26:43 INFO(0) ZODB Opening database for mounting: > '142200632_1012483603.415211' > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:26:43 INFO(0) ZODB Mounted database > '142200632_1012483603.415211' at /temp_folder > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:27:27 INFO(0) Zope New disk product detected, determining if we > need to fix up any ZClasses. > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:27:28 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Thu Jan 31 13:27:28 > 2002 > Hostname: carnall > Port: 8080 > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:27:28 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Thu Jan 31 13:27:28 > 2002 > Hostname: carnall > Port: 8021 > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:27:28 INFO(0) ZServer PCGI Server started at Thu Jan 31 13:27:28 > 2002 > Unix socket: /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/var/pcgi.soc > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:27:28 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception > Traceback (innermost last): > File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/z2.py, line 688, in ? > IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: > '/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/var/Z2.pid' OK chown'd /Zope/var to nobody, and this fixed the problem. But then got this: > root@carnall:/usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86# ./start > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:48:08 INFO(0) ZODB Opening database for mounting: > '142200632_10124 83603.415211' > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:48:08 INFO(0) ZODB Mounted database > '142200632_1012483603.415211' at /temp_folder > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:48:09 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Thu Jan 31 13:48:09 > 2 002 > Hostname: carnall > Port: 8080 > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:48:09 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Thu Jan 31 13:48:09 > 20 02 > Hostname: carnall > Port: 8021 > ------ > 2002-01-31T13:48:09 INFO(0) ZServer PCGI Server started at Thu Jan 31 13:48:09 > 2 002 > Unix socket: /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86/var/pcgi.soc > ------ > 2002-01-31T14:01:10 INFO(0) ZODB conflict error at /manage_main (1 conflicts > sin ce startup at 2002-01-31T13:48:09) > and no return to root prompt. However, can now get the Zope management screen via the browser, which is something. Let's face it, I'm going to have to follow the Zope-Install-HOWTO to the letter. So I did... Then this... > 2002-02-04T08:46:12 INFO(0) ZODB Opening database for mounting: > '142028632_1012810841.738608' > ------ > 2002-02-04T08:46:12 INFO(0) ZODB Mounted database > '142028632_1012810841.738608' at /temp_folder > ------ > 2002-02-04T08:46:12 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Mon Feb 4 08:46:12 > 2002 > Hostname: carnall.homechoice.co.uk > Port: 8080 > ------ > 2002-02-04T08:46:12 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Mon Feb 4 08:46:12 > 2002 > Hostname: carnall > Port: 8021 > ------ > 2002-02-04T08:46:12 INFO(0) ZServer PCGI Server started at Mon Feb 4 08:46:12 > 2002 > Unix socket: /usr/local/zope/2-5-0/var/pcgi.soc .... However, I then see this message via my terminal: > ------ > 2002-02-08T10:23:12 INFO(0) ZODB conflict error at /manage_main (1 conflicts > since startup at 2002-02-08T10:19:54) Zope seems to be working OK, but presumably the script should finish and Zope becomes a background process? Have I ballsed up the permissions somewhere along the line? I can't find much on Slackware and Zope: maybe there's a configuration problem? What distro do most Zope people standardise on anyway? Any thoughts on this problem would be most appreciated: I'd like to have a nice solid setup before we start testing new products. Compile Python
by ngterry＠easan.com.hk 09 Feb '02

09 Feb '02

Hi! I know this is Zope mailing list, but I would like to ask a Python question. I am new in Zope and Python, but I would like to compile Python myself in order to install Zope 2.5.0. What standard configure I should set in compiling Python for the purpose of learning Python and the requirement of compiling Zope? eg. ./configure --prefix=??? --??? I am using Debian 2.2r5, kernel 2.2.19. Sincerely, Terence Ng

Mods Attached Re: [Zope] Making ZClasses Inherit Subobjects from Bases
by Ross Patterson 09 Feb '02

09 Feb '02

Well, I ended up fixing the problem in my product, then I decided I wanted a way to do the same thing through the ZClass Subobjects management tab. So I made some changes to ZClasses/ObjectManager.py and ZClasses/dtml/subobjects.dtml and viola! It works beautifully. Now my question is this, should I submit these as patches at all? If so, having never done so before, how do I go about it? Following is the original message, and attached are the modified files. ---original message--- If I create a ZClass, ZC1, that subclasses ZClasses: ObjectManager and then create another, ZC2, that subclasses ZC1. As long as I don't save changes in the subobjects tab of ZC2, it will inherit the subobjects settings from ZC1. But as soon as I do save any changes, there is then no way to unset the subobjects and return it to the inherited subobjects. I think the way to do this would be to write a python method of my python base ZClass that calls the delClassAttr method from ZClasses.ZClass. But I can't seem to get this to work. LFS
by Arenz, Ralph 08 Feb '02

08 Feb '02

Hellau, i' m trying to compile python 2.1.2 with the "LFS" to run on SuSe Linux 7.3. I' ve read about the large file support in the python docs. So i used the following export CFLAGS='-D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64' OPT="-g -O2 $CFLAGS" and do: /.configure --without-pymalloc --with-threads ...that's works fine so i do "make test". ---------> The test for the large file support fails (platform does not have large file support) I' ve searched about python's and zope's mailing-archives but i found nothing which makes me really happy. I know that Python 2.2 therefor works well with the LFS but i have to use python 2.1.2 because 2.2 is not recommended for the use with Zope. Has somebody an idea? Best regards Ralph
