PUT_factory solution
by Adam Warner 02 Feb '02

02 Feb '02

Hi all, Thanks for the PUT_factory tip last night. I see this is a common issue with proposed solutions: http://www.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/ObjectTypeAssociationAndDeathTo… My initial solution is based upon a 12 October 2001 post by Andreas Wandel. My objective was to turn all text/* content into the content type file (NOT DTML content). And allow for DTML content to be uploaded using a .dtml suffix. You just create an external method named externalmethodname.py in the Extensions folder: def PUT_factory(self,name,typ,body): from OFS.Image import Image,File from OFS.DTMLDocument import DTMLDocument if typ[:6]=='image/': ob=Image(name,'',body,content_type=typ) elif name[-5:]=='.dtml': ob=DTMLDocument('',__name__=name) else: ob=File(name,'',body,content_type=typ) return ob import webdav.NullResource webdav.NullResource.NullResource._default_PUT_factory = PUT_factory And create a link to that External Method using the Zope management interface: ID externalmethodname Title Module Name externalmethodname Function Name PUT_factory I think I will also modify the external method so that anything I upload called 'index_html' is turned into dtml content by default. Thanks everyone. I misunderstood Chris' initial post as implying that this was only a cosmetic error message issue. A descriptive error message would have reduced the number of frustrating hours trying to work out what was wrong. Instead of the error message being "426 Error creating file" perhaps it could be: Zope tried to create a [insert DTML Document/DTML method/etc.] object. However your content could not be correctly parsed. Please investigate writing your own custom PUT_factory external method. By the way, if Zope was really smart it could automatically turn any text content that turns out to be illegal DTML into a text file type instead of rejecting the file. Regards, Adam

Yes, definitely. I do the same thing as you mentioned, only I do it for lawyers, not engineers. Your job will probably be easier (then again, it might not if the engineers want to tweak everything themselves). Ron > I have to integrate several smaller internal websites > into a larger intranet. Is Zope Right?

I have to integrate several smaller internal websites into a larger intranet. At the same time, I want to create a site that is easy to add content to. The primary users are several engineers, and I would like to set up a core structure that will easily allow me to add content in the form of white papers, downloadable powerpoint presentations with abstracts, FAQ's etc. without having to turn all of my engineers into html experts. >From the little I know, it sounds like Zope may be the ideal solution...am I on the right track?

Zope on solaris for the beginner.
by jesse wright 01 Feb '02

01 Feb '02

This is very humble-ing. Hopefully someone is a salvation waiting to happen. I'm new to Zope and could really use a little help installing. I'm on a Solaris Box. I've Downloaded Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc ./install -u root all looks good Next I try to ./start -u root All goes well until the install seems to get hung up on Unix socket: /path to Zope-2.5.0/var/pcgi When I try to ./start (with no other options) I get: File /path to Zope/zy.py, line 688, in? IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/path to Zope/var/Z2.pid' I imagine this time the error comes from not starting as root. That and the fact that this file does not seem t be in the "var" folder. basically i can't bet to mymachine.com:8080/manage So I haven't got this up and running yet. I would greatly appreciate any Advice on this. Thank you in Advance, jESSE Tell Your Story to the World Make A Difference - Make TV www.cameraplanet.com Expose Yourself

WebDAV question: My FTPstat and FTPlist are never reached
by Robert Rottermann 01 Feb '02

01 Feb '02

Hi Zopistas, I have defined a class as follows: class RedProjector(ObjectManager, PropertyManager, RoleManager, Item, FindSupport, PhotoFolder): within this class I have the following methods: security.declareProtected('FTP access', 'manage_FTPget', 'manage_FTPstat', 'manage_FTPlist') def manage_FTPget(self): """Handle GET requests.""" print "get" return self.read() def manage_FTPstat(self, REQUEST): """Handle STAT requests.""" print "stat" return ObjectManager.manage_FTPstat(REQUEST) def manage_FTPlist(self, REQUEST): """Handle LIST requests.""" print "list" return ObjectManager.manage_FTPlist(REQUEST) however neither of them is ever hit when I access an instance of the class trough WebDAV (I am using MS Word) Any tips what I am doing wrong is much appreciated. Seaching zcatalog 2.4.2, boolean problem
by Small Business Services 01 Feb '02

01 Feb '02

I am trying to get a zcatalog boolean search working in Zope 2.4.2 My objective is to get the following boolean format to work with zcatalog indexes: (indexA=valueA) AND (indexB=valueB OR indexB=valueC) where: indexA is a zcatalog Text index indexB is a zcatalog Field index valueA/B/C are entered by the user through an html form I have tried the following dtml: <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'indexA' : 'valueA', 'indexB' : 'valueB'}, {'indexA' : 'valueA', 'indexB' : 'valueC'})"> The repetition of indexA is required as .searchResults performs boolean AND within {} and OR between {} {}. This search is not working and through some experimentation I have discovered the following: <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'indexB' : 'goodvalue'}, {'indexB' : 'goodvalue'})"> /* returns a valid result set*/ <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'indexB' : 'badvalue'}, {'indexB' : 'badvalue'})"> /* returns a valid result set (empty set)*/ <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'indexB' : 'goodvalue'}, {'indexB' : 'badvalue'})"> /* returns a valid result set*/ <dtml-in "Catalog.searchResults({'indexB' : 'badvalue'}, {'indexB' : 'goodvalue'})"> /* returns INVALID result set (empty set)*/ where: goodvalue - exists in index badvalue - does not exist in index Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug or undocumented feature? Is there a work-around? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Jonathan Hobbs

Newbie: max. size of REQUEST form variables?
by Anthony Monta 01 Feb '02

01 Feb '02

Hola Zopistas, Is there a limit to the size of form variables you can pass to REQUEST? I have a custom zclass (an academic vita) I'd like users to edit without looking at the management screens for its instances. So I set up form/edit methods in the class but then found the following problem: 1. if I populated all the variables of the vita object with the properties management view, all the properties showed up correctly in the non-management-view form. well and good. 2. however, if I then changed anything in that non-management-view form, submitted it, and then directed the browser back to the index_html view of the changed vita object, something choked on the first big textarea variable ("essays"). the resulting index_html truncates the essays field, and no other variables subsequent to essays gets passed to REQUEST and updated. This is driving me batty. Can anyone help? Anthony __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo! Auctions! http://auctions.yahoo.com
