Wysiwyg frontend -- how I used the Java applet as a editor in zope
by Heimo Laukkanen 01 Jan '02

Try the Java applet from http://www.realobjects.de, which I have found as a killer tool -- if you use it with good network connections. I noticed that in one of our project users who used the net through 56 kbps modems felt it too slow loading. In our project we boughth the intranet licence for 10 users, since the customer website is updated by named users through Zope Management interface. The licence was bought through the web. Licence key came in a couple of hours, when I made the order on a normal working day. I created a ZClass - actually my first Zclass -- product that included all the functionality that I wanted. It wass automaticly indexed in to ZClass and also Renderable, so that it was possible to use product as a index_html in a folder. Now I would propably do it a bit differently, propably create a Python based product that inherits dtml-document and adds some functionality to that. In the product's editing functions dtml-method applet is loaded and to applet is given a http-addres, which is actually url to the products method called getBody. The getBody returns the content of the product without headers and footers etc. When user has done all the needed editing, he or she saves the edit by pressing savre button. Save button launches a small javascript that exports the content in the java applet to a hidden field in the edit-form -- and then sends the form to a method, that saves the changes to the Products properties. Works well. If you have any questions, just send email and I see if I can help you. -huima

WYSIWYG browser front end?
by R^3 01 Jan '02

01 Jan '02

Forgive me if I missed something. I am evaluating Zope as a possible CMS for a large University with a mix of very non-technical users through experienced technical uers. Our goal is to find something we can offer the non-technical people which _can_ eliminate all the different tools these people try to use which we are then forced to support (ftp, Dreamweaver, HTML-Kit, HomeSite, Frontpage, MS Word, Netscape Composer etc..) I do like the fact that Zope supports use of these tools. However, I was hoping there was add on or extension which offered more of a WYSIWYG interface through the browser for the non-technical people which only presented them with a page's content. For example something that ensures they use a template. It would need to be simple as point and click. I.e. Point to the "nav bar" section of a web page to allow editing of that section of the page. Zope seems to meet most of our goals. So far I'm very impressed. Does anybody have more information as to whether Zope can provide this functionality? BTW: I've seen this functionality in Egrail but the cost can't be justified ($125,000 + 15% maintenance fee)... Regards, -Ryan

where to put .lib file
by Lucas Vogel 01 Jan '02

01 Jan '02

Hi, I have compiled the MySql product on a win32 platform, which makes a .lib file called _mysql.lib . Where do I put this file in order for zope to see it? The product won't work because it doesn't see it and I can't seem to find a place to put it anywhere. Thanks, Lucas Vogel _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? relative path to objects in <dtml-var>
by Roy Mathew 01 Jan '02

01 Jan '02

Folks, I am trying to use acquisition to include images in my webpages. My intent is to have a central directory of Images, and several other hierararchies of Zope objects that use those images. For example, witness the following structure: Images/gifs/x.gif Images/pngs/x.png Content/A/page1_dtml (contains: <dtml-var x.gif>) Content/B/page1_dtml (contains: <dtml-var x.png>) My understanding of using pathnames in acquisition, is that one needs to insert the minimum relative path to the images from a reachable parent folder, that one can get away with, somewhere in the referring URL. Now, if I use the URL http://localhost/Content/Images/gifs/A/page1_dtml OR http://localhost/Content/Images/pngs/B/page1_dtml thing work fine. What I would really like to do is be able to specify the paths to the images inside of the dtml file itself, something like: Content/A/page1_dtml (contains: <dtml-var Images/gifs/x.gif>) Content/B/page1_dtml (contains: <dtml-var Images/pngs/x.png>) so that my URLS can be simpler, like: http://localhost/Content/A/page1_dtml http://localhost/Content/B/page1_dtml and still find the gifs. But this fails in ZOPE; can someone show me the light please! Thanks, Roy Mathew. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Oh God. All that pulling of hair... banging of head... gnashing of teeth... Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I never suspected this because it worked just fine for the smaller files. But then it would have -- only for the smaller files -- now that one knows that a PData object is returned from .data, rather than the actual contents of the file. I didn't even think to look at the source. Something should be added to the Zope Book about this (the Appendix on the File object is very scanty). Yikes. All that time... In any case, Cacey, please accept my sincere thanks. RE: [Zope] relative path to objects in <dtml-var>
by Joshua Lanza 31 Dec '01

My question about this is whether it will break some browsers that are looking for a ".gif" or ".jpg" extension? I'm sure that there must be some meta data in the files themselves declaring that "I'm a jpg", but I have avoided "x_jpg" because of this concern. Does anyone know that this won't pose a problem? This is not allowed in a pyhton expression. Make a TransparentFolder named Images in the root / . Put your graphics into Images named x_gif and x_png and you should can call them in every dtml like <dtml-var x_gif> or <dtml-var x_png> Regards, Dirk Roy Mathew schrieb: > Folks, > > I am trying to use acquisition to include images in my webpages. Problem working around string.split issue
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 31 Dec '01

31 Dec '01

I have a python script that works just fine in Zope for SMALL input files (between 1-100 cases). However, Zope returns an error when the input file gets large (100+ cases, depending on the situation). In the error message, Zope points to a line where I take the input file and split it to create a list of lines. Note, the same script (with split) works just fine when I run the script in regular python (i.e., outside of Zope). To get around this, I would normally just read the file one line at a time, however, we don't have access to the sys module in Zope. I have loaded the input file into a File Object in Zope, and can access it via... theData = context.myFile.data The problem that I have is that when you do a split on theData, Zope returns the split error (IF myFile is large enough). The question I have is, how can I read small chunks of content from the File Object? This is akin to reading a text file one line at a time. Any hints? Ron
