Using dot notation doesn't help. How do I do this? A quick (but dirty) way to do it would be to redirect to the absolute_url of the document that you wish the users to see. context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(_insert your parametes here_) > 2. How can I put 2 MailHost containers in one document and have 2 different > emails sent out simultaneously? Have you considered using a python script to generate the two different e-mails and then sending them out from the same MailHost? That would solve the problem nicely. There is a nice writeup about the Mail host on ZopeLabs (http://www.zopelabs.com) specifically, see: http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/1004481367 and http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/994494801 HTH Ron

Including Script-Generated String in Method Call
by Dan Shafer 31 Dec '01

31 Dec '01

I have been chasing my tail on this one for the better part of two hours now. Time to ask for help. My goal: I want to load a page whose URL looks like "day1.html" where the number in the name of the page changes. I have written a Python script called pagetoget which calculates the day number correctly and assembles the URL as a string, which it returns. This seems to work. In the page where I want to include this page, I essentially had only three lines: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var pagetoget> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> That produces a page which contains the string of the URL, naturally. Not what I had in mind, but that's clearly what it should do. So the question I spent the better part of the evening on is how I get the string generated by the Python script to be callable from a DTML Document so that the page named by the string value gets displayed. I've tried everything I can think of. I finally decided I had to do a redirect, so I coded this: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(<dtml-call pagetoload>)"> On this, I get an invalid syntax error. I've tried mucking with the quotation marks (which are annoying as heck, as I'm sure everyone already knows) but nothing I tried worked. I just cannot get that syntax right. I've also tried using dtml-var instead of dtml-call in both places; no joy. Am I on the right track? Is there a better way to do this? This has to be something that hundreds of you experienced Zope dudes have done hundreds of times, but the documentation is either missing or difficult to find with search mechanisms. I'm going to keep at it but I'm getting pretty discouraged. Seems like this should be so easy.... -- Dan Shafer, Author-Consultant http://www.danshafer.com http://www.shafermedia.com

virtual method inheritance/overriding in zope?
by Roy Mathew 31 Dec '01

31 Dec '01

Dear Zope users. I have what seems to be a very simple issue, and yet reading the FAQ didn't seem to help, and digging thru the archives wasn't very helpful either, so here goes. My issue is: I would expect that the acquisition mechanism behaves akin to the use of virtual methods in Java or regular methods in Python (ie: when there are more than one methods/attributes of the same name in a hierarchy of classes, then the most derived name takes precedence). However, I am finding that this is not the case. To illustrate, I have a folder hierarchy that contains the following DTML files. (I have listed the filenames, and the text of each file alongside, since there is only 1 line in each file). /x "this is /x\n<dtml-var y>\n<dtml-var z>" /y "this is /y" /A/y "this is /A/y" /A/z "this is /A/z" Notice that my intent is to override the contents of /y with /A/y when referencing the URL /A/x. Instead, I find that it is /y that gets picked up in place of /A/y. To be explicit, rendering /A/x looks as follows: this is /x this is /y this is /A/z instead of: this is /x this is /A/y this is /A/z Doesn't this make it harder than necessary to come up with a file structure that promotes reuse (file "x" in this case)? Is there some fundamental issue with the acquisition mechanism that simply precludes such virtual attribute/method inheritance? Please reply to "roymath(a)yahoo.com", since I am not yet on the mailing list. Thanks, Roy. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Far Simpler Solution to Including Script-Generated String!
by Dan Shafer 31 Dec '01

31 Dec '01

I stumbled, absolutely by accident, on a HowTo called "The difference between 'foo' and foo." that held a much more elegant key to this problem I've been describing and fighting with the last two days. It turns out this will work just fine: <dtml-var "_[pagetoget]"> where pagetoget is the name of the script object that generates the string that is the URL I want to load at this point in the page (or the name of a file or object to be rendered at this point in the page). I did a search for _.render on Zope.org in hopes of finding some documentation for that builtin, didn't find any, but did find this little tidbit. Re: [Zope] Probably Dumb Question re count(*)
by Dan Shafer 31 Dec '01

31 Dec '01

Matt Goodall suggested: >Change the "countrecords" SQL method to > > select count(*) as num_records from xyz > >so that you know the name (num_records) of the column. Then use the >following to display that count: > > <dtml-var "countrecords()[0]['num_records']"> > >The DTML is simply getting the column named num_records from the 1st row >of the result set. Thanks, Matt. Worked like a charm. The MySQL book I have mentioned the AS option but didn't include it in the reference section I was looking in, so I didn't remember how to do this column aliasing thing! -- Dan Shafer, Author-Consultant http://www.danshafer.com http://www.shafermedia.com
