Can't create new DTML Document w/ Mozilla 0.9.7
by Timothy Wilson 29 Dec '01

29 Dec '01

Hi everyone, Can anyone else confirm this potential bug. Using the new Mozilla 0.9.7, I can't add a DTML Document, DTML Method, or Python Script to my Zope site. (Those are three that I know don't work, there may be others. I can add folders.) I've tested this with 2.5.0b3 and 2.3.3 with the same results. The browser just spins without any apparent response from Zope. Netscape 4.77 seems to work just fine. This is on Linux, BTW (browser and Zope). I didn't observe this with Mozilla 0.9.6. Maybe it's time to file a bug report with the Mozilla folks. -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.org | http://www.zope.com W. [Bug] "bobobase_modification_time" unreliable to catalog
by Dieter Maurer 29 Dec '01

29 Dec '01

I just discovered that the value cataloged for "bobobase_modification_time" is often wrong: The cataloged value is not the time of the current modification but that of the previous modification. I expect that this is because "bobobase_modification_time" is updated when the transaction is commited while the values to be cataloged are determined before the commit. Do not trust the cataloged "bobobase_modification_time"! Dieter

Re: [Zope] PHP w/Zope

>>> Allen May wrote > How does PHP play with Zope? We have a lot of PHP pages that we would have > to convert if we moved over to Zope. You can put an apache in front, and direct some of the site to ZServer/Zope, and others to PHP. We've been doing this for a couple of years now, works fine. List & Dictionary properties; General property handling thoughts
by Eron Lloyd 29 Dec '01

29 Dec '01

This may seem like a redundant question, but this is the third time I've come across the desire to be able to store values persistantly as lists or dictionaries. I've read all the suggestions in the archives pointing out alternatives (<dtml-return expr="{'id': 'item'}">, TinyTable, string.split('value1|value2|..', '|'), "lines" property, SQL DB, etc.) but I still don't quite get the "Zen" of why this wouldn't make sense in practice. People have mentioned that it seems redundant with existing structures like tokens or lines, but these don't seem to have all the familiar benefits of lists and dicts, like instantly accessible mutability and _methods_, plus no added overhead. I know you can manipulate data within lists & dicts in a Python script, but it's just not why I require. Following this thought, I wonder if it wouldn't be handy to be able to cut, copy, & paste properties between valid objects, and provide a way to convert existing property values to different types? Also, the ability to import/export propertysheets of OFS objects could be useful as well (like in ZClasses). The facilities to do these things already exist, so would it be agreed by others in the community to promote these changes? Is it too late to try and work this into Zope3? Trying-to-help-Zope-grow-10x-ingly yours, Eron

by Dirk Datzert 28 Dec '01

28 Dec '01

Hi, I'm looking for a method to do the following thing: I have a variable called path with content '/test/abc/defg'. If I want to call the object behind this path from an object in an other path which can't acquire the Folder abc or abject defg, which is the function looking for ? my object is in path /test/xyz/ and has id t and is a PythonScript def t (self, path): # path is /test/abc/defg or ['test','abc','defg'] how to get the object behind the path ? Thanks Dirks

Calling DTML Methods from JavaScript?
by Dan Shafer 28 Dec '01

28 Dec '01

I'm sure I'm just overlooking something obvious here, but after spending several hours at this today I'm throwing up my hands. The goal here was (I thought) pretty simple: 1. User fills out a form. 2. If he checks a radio button and then doesn't provide text in a related field, I remind him of his inconsistency, leave him on the HTML form where he was, and select the field that needs completion. Outside Zope, this is a piece-o-cake. Done it hundreds of times. 3. If he behaves as expected, the MySQL database gets updated and the user gets a thank you page. In the JavaScript I use on the client side (I can't see a way to keep the user on the form using dtml), I have a conditional. The if portion pops up a dialog, reminding the user of his or her oversight, then selects the improperly omitted field. The else clause is _supposed_ to call the dtml method that updates the MySQL database and thanks the user for the submission. That's where the problem arises. In the <FORM> tag, I have the DTML method as the action. I also added a call to the JavaScript function using an onSubmit handler. The onSubmit handler gets called, the user gets reminded of the oversight, and the function returns false. This is _supposed_ (ECMA rules) to prevent the form from being submitted so the form action shouldn't take place. That's not what happens. Instead, the user gets reminded of the omission and then the thank you page shows up anyway. The MySQL database gets updated and it shouldn't. I tried in the else clause just having this line: else <dtml-call addAndAcknowledge> But when I do that, it _appears_ that Zope parses the script (which is in an overridden standard_html_header dtml method) because it gives me errors indicating a bad submission to the database on loading the page with the form. I tried enclosing the dtml-call in curly braces (optional JavaScript syntax; I was getting desperate) but that had zero effect. So the question I ended up with (and it may not be the right one; half of success is knowing what questions to ask and I'm not sure I have this one right) is, "How do you call a DTML method from a JavaScript?" I searched all the Tips and How-Tos, and did a search on Zope.org using "JavaScript" and then "DTML and JavaScript" and then "Zope and JavaScript" as terms. No joy but hours of pain (and a few good tidbits picked up in the process, so all was not lost.) I'm walking through the Zope tutorial and just uploaded an image through Zope. I just searched my computer and did not find that file. It displays on the page, so I know it uploaded... Is it in the Database? Thanks -Allen

RE: [Zope] Bulk User Import
by Keith J. Farmer 28 Dec '01

I've also had success with ExUserFolder, hooking zope up to the database behind my ikonBoard (had to write my own plugin for that, but it was relatively painless once I started). ---------- Keith J. Farmer kfarmer(a)thuban.org http://www.thuban.org -----Original Message----- From: Zachery Bir [mailto:zbir@urbanape.com] Sent: Friday, December 28, 2001 11:44 Go with A). Use LoginManager. There are several HOWTOs on zope.org for using it with an SQL user source. Use jok's - I found it to be more straightforward.
