Newbie - News headlines on home page
by Tina Poole 19 Dec '01

19 Dec '01

Hi all Zope 2.4.3 CMF I am trying to get a listing of the news headlines to appear on the homepage (similar to Zope.org) I have managed to get the listing to appear and be hypertext linked but when I click on the link I get an 'Unauthorised' error. This is even when I am logged in as the SuperUser. This is how I get the headlines to display <table> <td> <tr> <dtml-with "Applications.news"> <td valign="center" align=left width="75%"><h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2></td> <dtml-var contents> </dtml-with> </tr> </td> </table> I've checked the security settings for everything and there does not seem to be a problem and I can go to the news page and there are no problems. Anyone have any clues, thanks tina (missing our Zope guru on holidays and reading the Zope Book while looking desperately for a DTML guide for Dummies) Tina Poole Technical Writer Mincom Tina.Poole(a)mincom.com Phone +61 (0) 7 3303 3266 Cellular +61 (0) 402 857 139 Fax +61 (0) 7 3303 http://www.mincom.com Mincom. PCGI and FTP access?

Hi: If you start Zope in the FreeBSD default way, using PCGI, how do you get FTP access to edit your pages with Emacs? Thanks! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Withrow, R.W. Withrow Associates, Swampscott MA, witr(a)rwwa.COM

RE: [Zope] Time Zone question
by Graham King 19 Dec '01

19 Dec '01

Thanks Florent. if this has puzzled anyone else.... We changed the zLOG.py script, and Lo! logging is now in localtime. A quick scan through various python script directories shows time functions are all hardcoded as "time.gmtime". Obviously to be consistent, all scripts would have to be modified to "time.localtime", else yur zope envt would be in a right mess. I think someone raised the request prior to 2.4.3 (ie, "Could it be included in 2.4.3?"). One solution of course is to set your machine's "GMT" as the actual local time, and then not need a timezone setting. In our case, all our machines are NTP sync'ed, so we're stuck with GMT. cheers Graham -----Original Message----- From: Florent Guillaume [mailto:fg@nuxeo.com] Sent: Wednesday, 19 December 2001 3:59 To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Time Zone question If you really want to change this, change the log_time function in zLog.py to use localtime instead of gmtime. Code style check

>From within a DTML page, I'm calling an external method 'EditEntry' like this: <a href="./Z200/EditEntry?entry=3" style="text-decoration: none;"><font color="green">e</font></a> Inside the external method, I'm extracting the name of the page and the 'entry' value like this: pageID = self.absolute_url().split('/')[-1] entryNumber = self.REQUEST['entry'] This works. But does it look idiomatically reasonable, or is there a more commonly accepted way to do it? always-more-than-one-way-oops-that's-perl-ly yours Most current information can be found at: http://www.mindview.net/Etc/notes.html =================== Bruce Eckel http://www.BruceEckel.com Contains free electronic books: "Thinking in Java 2e" & "Thinking in C++ 2e" Please subscribe to my free newsletter -- just send any email to: join-eckel-oo-programming(a)earth.lyris.net My schedule can be found at: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar ===================

Zcatalog and getObject problem
by Geoff Horne 18 Dec '01

18 Dec '01

I'm getting weirdness with getObject() that i can't find an answer to: i want to troll my catalog to get objects, then interrogate the objects to call methods. In theory i /could/ just shove all the objects in as meta data, but getObject is meant to work me around that. SO here's the problem. <dtml-in db> <dtml-with getObject> <dtml-var id> <dtml-var foo> <dtml-var x_test_method> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> When i run this is get a 'KeyError' because x_test_method is not in the metadata. ('id' and 'foo' get returned just fine and i can call 'x_test_method' from the real object without error). It seems to me like getObject() just ain't working. Am i using getObject() incorrectly ?? or do i have a deeper problem like the fact that my zCatalog is inside a SiteRoot and this is munging the object path ? unable to instanciate product instance
by Jerry McRae 18 Dec '01

18 Dec '01

Hi Zopeople, I did a silly thing. I was testing something in my product class, and I foolish put a lambda method in my class. Consequently, the class no longer works, AND I cannot display the containing folder because it breaks trying to restore the class. I could find no related items in the list. How do I delete items from my folder if I cannot display the folder? --Jerry /\_/\ Jerry McRae \|||/ mail safely: The Bat! 1.53d (~o o~) (stuck in win98) (. .) Hi Casey, - re: what you <CD> wrote Jerry on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at 12:40 PM: CD> From your browser try: CD> ftp://username@myzope:8021/ Thanks. I knew there was some simple secret. I did have to use username:password@127.0.0.1:8021. Here I found the ftp zerver does a thing that must be useful most of the time. Instances with error (shows on the monitor) get left out of the file list altogether. I guess I can write a script that somehow deletes the offending item.. Wow! That was easier that I thought: <dtml-var "MyFolder.manage_delObjects('MyBadItem')"> ...and away go troubles down the drain. Thanks for helping. ZClasses
by Stadtverwaltung Schwarzenberg 18 Dec '01

18 Dec '01

Hi there! I got a little, tiny Problem with ZClasses. I have 2 Classes, let's call them foo1 (folderish object) and foo2. They both reside inside a single Product - call it fooProduct. All I wanna do is to alter the (standard) constructor of foo1 so that once an instance of foo1 is created another instance of foo2 is created INSIDE foo1. Right now I have: contructor of foo1: <dtml-with "foo1.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "foo2_contrcutor('idoffoo2', REQUEST)"> </dtml-with> contructor of foo2: <dtml-with "foo2.createInObjectManager(id, REQUEST)"> </dtml-with> but once I try to add a new foo1 instance I get *global name 'foo2' is not defined*
