4TH REQUEST--HEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!
by Ben Ocean 17 Dec '01

Okay, I've written Jim Cain several times asking for help deciphering his cryptic INSTANCE_HOME stuff but he's too busy to be bothered. I've written this list several times but nobody's taken the time to help me. I REALLY, REALLY WANT TO SET UP MY NEW SERVER TO SERVE SEVERAL SEPARATE INSTANCES OF ZOPE. IF YOU WILL HELP ME, I PROMISE I'LL WRITE A HOW-TO THAT NORMAL PEOPLE (UNLIKE SUPER-GEEK CAIN) CAN UNDERSTAND. Okay, 4th try's a charm, right? In deciphering Mr. Cain's work here http://www.zope.org/Members/jec/startstop_howto_html I've substituted what I consider to be appropriate values for the variables in his code (to conform to the architecture of my box) and written this: #su nobody -c \ > "/usr/local/bin/python /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0/z2.py \ > -p /home/httpd/cgi/zope0/Zope.cgi \ > -w '' -m '' -f 8080 -t 2 -Z /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0/var/zProcessManager.pid \ > INSTANCE_HOME=/home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0 \ > /home/httpd/ZopeInstallation/zope0/z2.log 2>&1 &" I've created the extra files (Zope.cgi, z2.log). I wasn't quite sure what pid Jim wanted for his *manager.pid*, so I assumed the zProcessManager was what he was after and stuck that in. At any rate, when I run the above I just get a prompt returned, but Zope isn't started. And frankly, I have little idea what the above code is trying to accomplish and don't even know where to begin deciphering it. Can someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong and help me understand what that code is saying? TIA, BenO

This will work: parameter: catchit copy = context.sourcefolder.manage_copyObjects(catchit) return context.destinationfolder.manage_pasteObjects(copy) Sanket. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

Online Payments
by Home Alone 17 Dec '01

17 Dec '01

Greetings All Z's I have few questions about processing online payments in Zope environment. 1. Is it true that Zope has to be run behind Apache (or similar) to enable SSL. ( ProxyPass ? ) 2. Is it compatible with verisign Payflow Pro. Has anyone in here has done it or have an idea how it would have to be done ? 3. If it does support, what will be the glueing layer dtml/python/Perl ? Are there any known documents addressing the online payment processing issues ? Thanks, Happy Vacations, -Homie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Check out Yahoo! Think about it, you slip up with permissions and all of a sudden someone can quite happily do: http://yoursite.com/ealExp?pExp=import os; os.system('rm -rf /') (with a bit of URL encoding ;-) cheers, Chris Josef Meile wrote: > > I would like to know what the risks are because I haven't found information > about it. > Thanks. > > > Wow... where are your servers? I found an easy way to use it: You just have to create an external method like this one: def evalExp(pExp): return eval(pExp) Regards, Josef.

RE: [Zope] Automatically run an external method?

I agree that this is (or event triggers in general are) a useful soft of thing. I think one thing that will eventually come out of ComponentArchitecture/Zope3X efforts will be the service-ization of such infrastrucuture as a standard component of Zope the way that workflow is a standard component of the CMF... Yes, a file modified through the web interface and saved to the ZODB. For example, something like a DTML Document. The idea is that the document is a configuration/information file, and the external method will take this and process it to generate an output file. Seems like this could be a useful model in general for solving problems. Hi Bruce Using ZPatterns, you can use SkinScript to do this kind of thing: WHEN eventspec CALL expression [ SAVING mementolist ] It's a framework for use with Zope: http://www.zope.org/Members/pje/ZPatterns Philip Eby, who wrote ZPatterns, isn't developing it further now, since it looks like Zope 3 will provide most of what ZPatterns does. HOWTO: Using Xron on Zope 2.4.x
by Jean Jordaan 17 Dec '01

17 Dec '01

(This replaces the previous version of the HOWTO at http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-December/105668.html ) To use Xron on Zope 2.4.x, some hackery is required .. the following takes a Linux point of view, but only point 3 is somewhat platform-specific. 1. Import DateTime correctly. Instead of: from Globals import DateTime do this: from DateTime import DateTime You need to do that once each in 'Dispatcher.py' and in 'XronDTMLMethod.py' 2. Implement the patches in this thread: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2001-July/012486.html In short: you need to do this: from Products.PluginIndexes.FieldIndex.FieldIndex import FieldIndex and instead of this: self._catalog.addIndex('name', 'FieldIndex') you now need to do this in a couple of places: self._catalog.addIndex('name', UnIndex('name')) 3. This posting: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-April/087151.html mentions a 'deadlock on start-up problem' for Xron on some systems. Roché Compaan enlightened me as to a fix. Xron needs to write to certain files, so they have to be readable and writable to the user Zope starts as. If Zope runs as nobody, for example, run 'chown -R nobody *' in the Zope root, and modify './start' to do something like 'su -c nobody ..../python z2.py ....' (i.e. change to 'nobody' *before* Zope runs). 4. Slay the dragon hinted at here: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2001-July/012502.html AFAIK, this is fixed by providing authentication information in 'Dispatcher.py':: (headers, response)=rpc(furl,'username','password') # Fire event Regards, Jean Jordaan
