Sound >right? > we're a newspaper house too, and currently running on one zope, with many zeo clients. what we're missing now, (what we should have done earlier, if we'd known :)) is to enable caching on dynamic sections, as suggested by a message before this. putting squid in front, as suggested by sean is also one of the answer. caching expensive methods is another. however, we're currently on 2.4.x, and RAM cache dont have automated invalidation. we're in the midst of trying to pull StandardCacheManager from 2.4.x to 2.3.x and hope that it doesnt break zope. so, if youre starting fresh, work with zope2.4.x, use ramcache, and probably use squid. with one zope, management should be easier. if the site crawls, add another zeo client. however, getting the logs together may be a challenge:) increasing the number of threads dont really guarantee faster response. there's a 7(10?) connection pool limit in the ZODB. in previous threads, we've tried increasing the thread number, and bumping up the connection pool to thread # + 2. http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/09FAF907CB95FDF9 so if we're using -t 7, we increased the connection pool to 9. are you front ending with apache? from our experience, with > 100 simultaneous connections per zeo client, the site will crawl. we're experiencing that now, and thus the experiment with ram cache. *nix flavor recommended. sorry for the mish mash of information. it's the weekend :)

It's amazing how different these two lines can be: cp -R ../../../../Zope.old/lib/python/Products/Squishdot/ ./ cp -R ../../../../Zope.old/lib/python/Products/Squishdot ./ The second one is good... getting the number of returned objects

Hi everyone, Let's say I've got a PythonScript called 'getResults' that does a catalog query. What is the proper way to get how many results were returned by getResults in DTML? For example, <dtml-var "len(getResults)"> doesn't work (I didn't think it would). I've tried some other variants without success. I don't think that is the case under Linux with a 64-bit userspace. Someone on this list (Bill?) had indicated it worked to have large files on ext2 under 64 bit architectures. Sadly, that excludes UltraSPARC, because its user-space is still 32 bit, but I guess this limitation doesn't exist on Alpha, Itanium, or PA-RISC, but you may still need a 2.4 kernel for Itanium if you are to use that as a platform. Next year, my company is likely to migrate our ZEO Storage Servers to an intel architecture from Linux/Sparc, and will likely use ReiserFS at that time, since it has been in the mainsteam 2.4.1+ kernels, and is reported to be stable on IA32... WARNING - Zope on glibc 2.2.4

On wednesday night, RedHat shipped a glibc update to RedHat 7.0 taking it from 2.2-12 to 2.2.4-18. Sometime this morning, my Zope installation died and was restarted by zProcessManager. Until that point, the old (now deleted) glibc libraries had been mapped in. After the restart, Python came up with the new glibc mapped in (of course) - disaster. My Zope site died almost instantly, and would *not* recover. I tried everything I can think of - I even recompiled Python without py_malloc, recompiled Zope and all the addins from scratch - nada. Dropping back to glibc-2.2-12 fixes the problem. Beware... CLIENT_HOME NameError

Hi: I am updating Zope from 2.3.2 to 2.4.2 on FreeBSD 4.4-STABLE. What is the best way to go about this? Previously, I have just installed the new version, copied over the Data.fs, and then fixed up whatever products it told me it was missing when I tried to start up. (I usually do not install the products first, as some things get added to the base system that make them unnecessary, like ZPT) This time, I installed Squishdot and TinyTablePlus, as asked, but now I get: NameError: CLIENT_HOME when trying to start z2.py (using start) I searched yahoo! groups, and see one unanswered message similar from August, and a couple from last year. The recommendation was to try to get a traceback from App.FindHomes, but I can't find the lines the message referenced. Am I going about this all wrong?
