Giving Permission
by Ben Ocean 27 Sep '01

27 Sep '01

Hi; If I want to give a client permission to access a folder within a virtual host as a manager, what URL do I use? For example, if I want to enter the root folder of the virtual host, it's http://www.virtualhost.com:8080/manage but apparently http://www.virtualhost.com:8080/a_folder/manage doesn't work. TIA, BenO

In the first case, you test both existence and value, in the second case only existence. In general: <dtml-if XXX> is equivalent to <dtml-if "_.has_key('XXX') and XXX"> More details: <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html> > - How exactly is the expression "foo" defined? The expression "foo" is defined as "foo".... But, when you use it with "dtml-if" or in another boolean context, then it is checked whether it has a Python true value. Everything, that is not a Python false value, is a Python true value. Python false values are e.g. the integer 0, the empty string, an empty sequence, and object "o" with "len(o) == 0", an object "o" with "o.__non_zero__() = 0". More details: Python language reference.... Dieter

Importing ZFloatMenu-1.0.zexp
by Roger Oberholtzer 27 Sep '01

27 Sep '01

I am somewhat new to ZOPE. Things are OK when they work. When they don't, I'm not far enough along yet... I am trying to import ZFloatMenu-1.0.zexp into Zope. When I do so, I get the following error message: The object ZFloatMenu does not support this operation Traceback (innermost last): File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Traversable) File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_importObject) File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: manage_importObject) File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/OFS/ObjectManager.py, line 565, in manage_importObject (Object: Traversable) File /home/httpd/Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86/lib/python/OFS/CopySupport.py, line 444, in _verifyObjectPaste (Object: Traversable) Copy Error: (see above) What stupid thing have I missed? This item required Renderer, which I have installed as a product. I am doing the import into a folder, starting the operation by pressing the Import/Export button in the Zope manage screen. This is with Zope-2.3.2 and python 1.5 It seems that everything else I am trying to do in Zope is working as expected. I have not upgraded Zope as I want to be sure I know what I am doing first. -- Roger Oberholtzer

Internet Bill of Rights in Zope
by lozinski＠openstepnews.com 27 Sep '01

27 Sep '01

I have published an internet bill of rights and responsibilities on the web at: http://216.17.175.171/WebSites/BillOfRights It is hosted at imeme.com, a great ISP for Zope hosting. Given the current attack on civil liberties on the web, there is a need to define and support our civil liberties. I would like to ask people to help me extend this website with weblogs, email lists, graphics, databases, and whatever else you can imagine. Of course I need Zopistas to make this happen. Let me know if you would like to help. PS. I believe that this web site will be noticed far and wide. So this is a great way to get the world to notice Zope! Re: [Zope] Mailing List Archive Indexing Quality

Hi James, > Anyone have any idea why the archive indexes are essentially useless? Uhhm, no but you could try http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists.html just take not about the search syntax, it differs from the syntax of google and altavista - it defaults to substring search if you search for "nt service acl_users", I'm mentioning that because I can't get it in my dumb head myself. I tried "nt and service and acl_users" and got some hits ... HTH, oliver

is this a browser problem?
by Tom Hoffman 27 Sep '01

On each member's "Change User" screen in acl_users, I can only seem to select one role at a time from the menu, or use shift-click to choose adjacent roles. This is using Mozilla (linux.9.3), Konqueror, IE(MacOSX) and Omniweb. Also, the menu to remove roles only brings up one or two roles or nothing? Can I change these by hand somewhere? Anyone else have this problem? --Tom

Mailing List Archive Indexing Quality
by James Garrison 27 Sep '01

27 Sep '01

Anyone have any idea why the archive indexes are essentially useless? I tried searching for "acl_users" from the link available at http://www.zope.org/Resources/MailingLists and it returned all 76,000+ messages in the archive. Someone suggested I try the archive at ActiveState.... it returned ZERO hits for "acl_users" and "nt service" (what I was looking for in a previous thread) (no, I didn't include the quotes in my search term) -- James Garrison Athens Group, Inc. mailto:jhg@athensgroup.com 5608 Parkcrest Dr http://www.athensgroup.com Austin, TX 78731 PGP: RSA=0x04B73B7F DH/DSS=0x70738D88 (512) 345-0600 x150

RE: [Zope] Mozilla 0.9.4 (Was: Problems with Mozilla-0.9.3)
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 27 Sep '01

One of my colleagues has this problem under IE 5.0 for some reason... I wonder if this is similar. On another weird browser/ZMI note, can anyone explain this: I have a virtual host setup using a VHM accessed through a proxy, and use IE 5.5; when I access the ZMI, and right click on a tree link in the left frame to open the link in a new window, all subsequent clicks in that pane open manage_main in a new window as a target? I've only seen this on this setup, and not natively accessing the same Zope server(s) without the virtual host setup. Weird, isn't it? I have the same effect with Mozilla and Zope on my box at home when I access the instance from inside my private network. When I access the site from outside the network the misbehaviour disappears. Maybe a closer HTTP analysis will help.
