C++ style comments confound Sun compilers
by payne＠stsci.edu 22 Aug '01

I came across this again building 2.4.1b1, but there are C++ style comments in lib/python/Products/PluginIndexes/TextIndex/Splitter/ISO_8859_1_Splitter/src/ISO_8859_1_Splitter.c that prevent a clean build with the Sun version 5 compilers, at least for me under Solaris 8. Could they be changed? Oracle Stored Procedures and Transactions
by alan runyan 22 Aug '01

22 Aug '01

I have a Script (Python) that does the following: stored_proc.AddUser stored_proc.AddTrees does some funky Python stuff zsqlmethod.insertPermissions I've had cases that my insertPermissions explode but the stored procedures have committed their data -- regardless of the transaction needing to be rolled back. In ZOPE, am I correct that everything inside a Request is in one Transaction (btw, how do you demarcate transactions?). Am I missing something? I am expecting that everything would be rolled back on a exception but it appears not. ~runyaga

rendering image tags
by hamish＠allan.tc 22 Aug '01

22 Aug '01

hi folks, suppose i have some images in a folder, named image1, image2 and image3, and the following DTML method: <dtml-in expr="[image1, image2, image3]"> <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(_['sequence-item'])"> </dtml-in> this yields something of the form: <img src="http://localhost:8080/test/image1" alt="image one" height="32" width="90" border="0" /> <img src="http://localhost:8080/test/image2" alt="image two" height="32" width="90" border="0" /> <img src="http://localhost:8080/test/image3" alt="image three" height="32" width="90" border="0" /> (incidentally, this is the case whether or not i pass 'true' to the 'render' argument of getitem()). first question (the answer to which is probably obvious, but i'm new to zope): - why does the following not yield the same result? <dtml-in expr="[image1, image2, image3]"> <dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-in> (yields: image1\nimage2\nimage3) second question: - i want to pass an extra argument to the image object. the following code works: <dtml-in expr="[image1, image2, image3]"> <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(_['sequence-item']).tag(name=_['sequence- item'])"> </dtml-in> yielding: <img src="http://localhost:8080/test/image1" alt="image one" height="32" width="90" border="0" name="image1" /> <img src="http://localhost:8080/test/image2" alt="image two" height="32" width="90" border="0" name="image2" /> <img src="http://localhost:8080/test/image3" alt="image three" height="32" width="90" border="0" name="image3" /> but this is based on knowledge that Image.__str__() calls tag(), which i do not want to rely upon. instead i want to call the object in the same way as it is called when i use a simple tag such as '<dtml-var image1>'. how do i achieve this? (using expr="_.getitem(_['sequence-item'])(name=_['sequence-item'])", i.e., dropping the '.tag', yields an AttributeError of value __call__). thanks in advance, hamish -- Get your firstname@lastname email for FREE at http://Nameplanet.com/?su

RE: [Zope] Help with publishing...

You could try to use wget from the cygwin tools (Www.cygwin.org) Install on your IIS server, then use 'scheduled tasks' or the AT service to run wget periodically and have the files deposited in the IIS wwwroot directory. I think I recall a zope tool that can do this also, but the name escapes me... RE: [Zope] PLEASE HELP: automatic start when system boots
by Dunigan, Craig 22 Aug '01

Are you using the zope start script (presumably in /usr/local/zope/2-1-2) unmodified? "Out of the box" that script enables debugging, with the -D switch. That leaves the console attached, which will cause problems like you describe. Take off that switch, or set the logging environment variable STUPID_LOG_FILE in the script 'start,' with something like 'STUPID_LOG_FILE="$PYTHONHOME/var/<whatever-you-want-to-call-the-logfile>" export STUPID_LOG_FILE' The latter will direct debugging messages to the logfile instead of the console, allowing the console to be detached. NameError instantiating ZClass instance, but it used to work!
by Brad Clements 22 Aug '01

22 Aug '01

Running Zope 2.3.3 on RH Linux 7.1 I created a Product with 3 Zclasses. 2 of the 3 Zclasses work okay, but one of them raises a NameError during the add process saying that it can't find the ZClass itself, even though the darn thing is listed in the Product folder. (Also, Monitor Client shows it's there too, see below) >From ZMI, selecting Add "Searchable Company", then entering the ID results in the traceback. I'm totally stumped trying to fix this, anyone have any ideas how to figure this out? I tried exporting to XML and re-importing the Product (after deleting it) but the XML import process raises an Exception (not enough args passed). I tried export/reimport in .zexp format, but the results are the same. This is a standard ZClass that is based on ZObject, _ZClass_for_PortalFolder, _ZClass_for_DefaultDublinCoreImpl. (and 1 other Zclass in this product has the same base classes) It *used* to work, but today I find that I can't create any more instances. Using ZMI, I get this: Error Type: NameError Error Value: SearchableCompany Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/holmes/AdkWood/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /usr/holmes/AdkWood/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /usr/holmes/AdkWood/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: RoleManager) File /usr/holmes/AdkWood/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /usr/holmes/AdkWood/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: SearchableCompany_add) File /usr/holmes/AdkWood/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: SearchableCompany_add) File /usr/holmes/Zope-2.3.3/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 189, in __call__ (Object: SearchableCompany_add) File /usr/holmes/Zope-2.3.3/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 540, in __call__ (Object: SearchableCompany_add) File /usr/holmes/Zope-2.3.3/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 138, in render (Object: SearchableCompany.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)) File /usr/holmes/Zope-2.3.3/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py, line 339, in eval (Object: SearchableCompany.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)) (Info: SearchableCompany) File <string>, line 0, in ? RE: [Zope] ZServer ACL
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 22 Aug '01

Are you suggesting that Zope be served through inetd (or, really, one of it's replacements)? That is interesting... Another thing - Squid runs great on Solaris, according to some things I have heard, but you would absolutely need to tweak TCP connection buffers and a few other settings. Solaris 7/8, by default, is tuned to be a workstation, not a highly saturated server. Linux 2.4, on the other hand, should run a proxy well without tuning - provided you turn off TCP_ECN. ;) This is why our Squid proxies are Linux on Sun hardware...
