Hi, does anyone out here know, where to find the Zope-based LDAP Browser Zygopetale ? All mentioned URLs from Google and the OpenLDAP-site either lead to an 'no DNS entry found' or 'access denied' error. I've tried: http://www.xlogix.org http://www.en.xlogix.org http://www.mouli.net http://www.Zygopetale.net Any help appreciated, tnx i.a. ta -------------------------------------------------------------------------- smartferret it-consulting Dipl.-Ing. two birds with one stone: modify objstate+redisplay
by hans 22 Aug '01

let P be a product (python), with instance PI. In product code: class P(SimpleItem): ... aForm=DTMLFile('aForm', globals()) ... def m(..., REQUEST=None): """modify inner state of PI""" ... if REQUEST is not None: # called via web return ??? # where-m-was-called-from, # redisplay w different state of PI In File aForm.dtml which displays PI's state: ... <a href="m?...">xxx</a> In order to return from m(...) and redisplay PI's state, usually (eg http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/minimal_01) one writes return self.aForm(self) However, i want to call m from several different forms, ultimately some user i dont know will use DTML-Document i dont know, to use it in his own software. HOW-TO with one mouse-click a) effect call of m (preferably via href) b) effect redisplay of the DTML-document i tried redirect(HTTP_REFERER), (well, i've several calls of m, urls get mangled, one m( ) is delete!!) additional parameter m( ..., url) fed with a)<dtml-var URL0> inside product code gives url just called, not just displayed b)<dtml-var absolute_url url_quote> just gives .../PI, not .../PI/aForm

Is this a feature or a bug ?
by Bocquillon Philippe 22 Aug '01

22 Aug '01

Hello, I am using Zope 2.3.3. I have coded a python class inheriting from ObjectManager (and others, as explained in the ZDG). Is this a feature or a Zope bug that instances of that class _cannot_ contain other instances of the _same_ class, just like a Zope Folder obect can contain other Folder objects? I have also tried by inheriting from the Folder class instead of ObjectManager. It does not solve the problem. Note the objects are created but not where expected, instead they are created in the first object in the url being a Folder object. This is a strange behavior, isn't it? Thanks in advance for your answers, Philippe Bocquillon

Re: [Zope] Zope vs. the Big Boys
by Stephan Goeldi 22 Aug '01

One of the problems with Zope is, that all the factsheets found on www.zope.com are targeted to technical people. Those management guys are used to read high-glossy papers like the one on http://www.obtree.com/c3_broch_e.pdf which is the way, a Zope decision-maker-targeted brochure should go too. I realized, that I have no chance to impress those Microsoft- and Obtree-used managers, when I use the official Zope factsheets only. Of course, I can create my own. And I understand, that it is not the business of Zope.com to create papers, which others can use to sell their own services ... _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

2.4.1b1 install -> no index_html in root folder?
by jon＠totient.demon.co.uk 22 Aug '01

22 Aug '01

Hi Zope 2.4.1b1, Python 2.1, Redhat 6.2 I set up zope in a seperate directory and created a site directory. I modified the start script to use INSTANCE_HOME for the site and ZOPE_HOME for the Zope tree. Everything started ok, but via the browser there is no index_html in the root folder. at http://host:8080 If I go to the management screen http://host:8080/manage it appears to work. the standard_html_header/footer documents are Ok. any ideas why index_html is missing? But I don't know how this thread-safety is implemented. How can I synchronise things like this: if(self.i<100): i=i+1 If self.i mustnot be bigger than 100 this could be a problem. > This sounds like a job for a database. Up to now I was very impressed by ZODB. Would like to use it. -- Open Source Software Solutions Thomas Guettler <thomas(a)thomas-guettler.de> http://www.thomas-guettler.de

Re: [Zope] Python method for getting contents of a sub-folder

> Something like: > > l = [] > for obj in container.First_Folder.objectValues(): > url = obj.absolute_url() > title = obj.title > l.append((url, title)) > return l Thank you very much for your response. I've been playing around with the code and now have it so that it returns the data with the specified id. Do you happen to know how to get the url and title values printed out using DTML? <dtml-with expr="get_staff_info('first_person')"> <A HREF="<dtml-var sequence_item[0]>"><dtml-var sequence_item[1]></A> </dtml-with> ..gave me a key error. <dtml-with expr="l=get_staff_info('first_person')"> <A HREF="<dtml-var l[0]>"><dtml-var l[1]></A> </dtml-with> .. gave me a syntax error. Thanks again! Ron

How/Where to store user specific data?
by Thomas Guettler 21 Aug '01

How (Where) can I store user specific data? I am developing a product in python (Multible Choice Test) and want to store some data for every user (Results of the tests). I see two ways: Add data to the user object in acl_users or Store data in a hash with the user-id as key What do you think? -- Open Source Software Solutions Thomas Guettler <thomas(a)thomas-guettler.de> http://www.thomas-guettler.de
