Importing from

Hi, I got some scripts in $ZOPEROOT/Extensions. One of them (GlobalDefs.py) contains definitions for other modules. I got an ImportError when accessing this module with "import GlobalDefs" from other modules (that are used from Zope) Thought that the dir of a main module is always in the import path. Any hint ? Where should I put this ? TIA --Gilles

hello everybody, Can you please tell me if there are any simple zope products available for content management. I need a product which must be easy to handle for the people who are not into programming. Something like a "form" which one can fill and the changes are automatically transfered to the web page. i dont want to use any relational database to store the content. It should direclty change the content in the web page. Thank you, Sanket.

addressing contained objects
by hamish＠allan.tc 10 Aug '01

hello, i'm new to zope and i've been playing around with DTML. i have been trying to create a website with a menubar comprising several images, each a label for a different subsection of the site. each subsection has a folder, and in each folder there is an image similar to the menubar image for that section but with a 'selected' appearance, like so: root \ |->sub1_image (image for subsection 1, normal appearance) | |->sub2_image (image for subsection 2, normal appearance) | |->sub3_image (image for subsection 3, normal appearance) | |->sub1_folder \ | |->sub1_image (image for subsection 1, highlighted) | |->sub2_folder \ | |->sub2_image (image for subsection 2, highlighted) | |->sub3_folder \ |->sub3_image (image for subsection 3, highlighted) there is common code in the root folder to display sub1_image, sub2_image and sub3_image alongside each other; executing that code in the namespace of each section folder gives that section its 'highlighted' appearance. this works fine, but i'd like to put my images into an 'images' subfolder, both in the root and within each section subfolder. but i can no longer address the images using dtml-var - i want to be able to use something like <dtml-var images/sub1_image> meaning "look in the current namespace for a container named images with an object called sub1_image; if not found, look down the stack for a container named images with an object called sub1_image, etc." is this possible any other way? i have been well-advised by a friend of mine to use transparent folders, but i thought i throw it open to the list to see if there is any other way of doing something more akin to what i describe. thanks in advance, hamish -- Get your firstname@lastname email for FREE at http://Nameplanet.com/?su

DCOracle problems after dropping/reloading tables
by Mark Langkau 10 Aug '01

10 Aug '01

Hi, We're using Zope 2.3.2 and DCOracle2 Beta-4 against a remote Oracle 8.1.6 database on RH Linux 6.2. We have a data mart (MCMART) where tables and views are dropped and refreshed nightly. This seems to be the cause of the following error: -- Error Message -- an exception occurred in a DTML method or document. Error type: DatabaseError Error value: (4068, 'ORA-04068: existing state of packages has been discarded\012ORA-04061: existing state of package body "MCMART.MC_MART_RPT" has been invalidated\012ORA-04065: not executed, altered or dropped package body "MCMART.MC_MART_RPT"\012ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called\012ORA-06512: at line 1') Innermost method: /mc/mc_mart_dyn/mc_dd/daily_sales/show_daily_sales.dtml ------------------ If we reconnect to the Oracle database, the error goes away. The connections from Zope to Oracle remain open during these nightly refreshes, and we are thinking this is causing the error. Is there a way to programatically close and reopen these connections? Or better yet, have Zope/DCO2 detect the error and try to close/reopen the connection? A reasonable solution might be to have the Oracle view refresh process use wget (or similar) to call a script telling DCO2 to close/reopen the database connection. (But then I'm not sure how to handle logging in, so Joe Hacker doesn't help me by doing this himself all day long ;-) Has anyone seen this before? I see that a new version of DCO2 was released last night, but I haven't had time to check that out yet for new functionality. Have I overlooked something that is in the current version? Thanks for your help. Cheers, Mark

IE problems with Zope Solaris binary?
by Irene Barg 10 Aug '01

10 Aug '01

Hello, I'm running Zope-2.3.2-solaris-2.6-sparc binary release on a Sparc Ultra 60 running Solaris 2.8. I don't have root privilege on my machine, and gcc compiler is not installed, so I just downloaded the Solaris binary. When I start Zope in debug mode, I see: ZServer PCGI Server started .. Unix socket: /home/barg/Zope-2.3.2-solaris-2.6-sparc/var/pcgi.soc I connect directly to my zope site using this URL: http://nickel.as.arizona.edu:8080 Since the binary version is using PCGI, would there be any advantage to starting Zope with the "-p" option and going through my public_html directory? Everything appeared to be working fine until I started investigating a problem that I believed was related to an AOL Proxy server caching, but now I don't know. I have a set of forms that allow users to edit a MySQL database (MySQL 3.23.38, MySQL-python-0.3.5, ZMySQLDA-2.0.6). I develop on a linux system, running Zope 2.3.2 compiled from source. Then I deploy on my Sun. Users accessing my forms from Windows machines running either IE or a AOL enabled browser can query my database, but when they actually try to 'Submit' an update, they get the infamous IE page saying: This page cannot be displayed. The page your are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or your may need to adjust your browser settings. ..... Now, what "should" happen is, when they press the 'Submit' button, a DTML method is called (using method="POST"), this method calls some Python scripts, a ZSQL method, then sends a reply to the client's browser. Of course this never happens on a PC running IE or Nescape 4.7. I do not see this behavior if I come into my Zope site from another Sun workstation in my office (using Netscape 4.7), but I can go down the hall and get the same error on a PC running Windows 2000 and IE. Can anyone tell me what may be going on, or how I can go about debugging this? Adding a zclass programmatically
by Montagne, Michael 10 Aug '01

10 Aug '01

I'm working with the product YihawDirectory. It contains a zclass named YihawChannel which in turn contains other zclasses representing various objects that are collected and displayed. Looks pretty cool. I'm working on a user interface for adding instances to my folder object. From within a YihawChannel instance, I can just call methods directly, excellent. But I can't figure out a nice way to add the first YihawChannel object to my folder. There is an existing YihawChannel_addForm that comes with the product. I sure would like to use that but I can't seem to reference it. This is propbably a very basic question and I've struggled for a while. If someone would point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful -mjm

Zope & IIS - I'm stupid
by emailgroups＠idomainsolutions.com 10 Aug '01

10 Aug '01

I'm trying to setup Zope with IIS4 and IIS5. I can get it to work when using http://localhost/scripts/zope.pcgi How can I get it so that it can coexist with IIS. I'm also running ColdFusion and cannot remove this and go soley with Zope, especially since I know nothing about it yet. What I would like to do is have one site at http://localhost/test1 that is ColdFusion and another that is http://localhost/test2 that is Zope. I've gone through the web site and through the archives and haven't found a solid answer. Do I need to create vitual directories in IIS and map them somewhere under Zope? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm excited to use this product but have to use IIS. Thanks Chuck Brockman

RE: [Zope] Checkbox form data storage was (Help with expr)

Hi Todd, Please keep this thread on the mailing list... > I have one column named membership type varchar(30) OK. I'm assuming that the field has values like: "D,A,M,I,T" (heehee, couldn't resist :) If so, you will need to convert the list of strings in the "membership" REQUEST variable to a string of comma separated values before you update your database with a ZSQL Method. Hint: read about Python's string.join() function (accessible in DTML with <dtml-var expr="_.string.join()">) Eric. > >Hi Todd, > >Does your database table have *one* string field named > "membership" or are > >there many boolean fields that represent the different > memberships that each > >user record can have? Proxy roles don't work with manage_clone?
by Hamish Lawson 10 Aug '01

10 Aug '01

I have a Python Script that contains a line like this (with appropriate assignments of DestinationFolder, PrototypeObject and folder_id): DestinationFolder.manage_clone(PrototypeObject, folder_id) The script is intended to be run by anonymous users, but only the Manager role has permission to add folders to DestinationFolder (the folder acquires its permission settings ultimately from the root folder, which specifies that the Manager role has all permissions). So I gave the script a proxy role of Manager. Despite this Zope still prompts for authentication credentials. Why doesn't the proxy role seem to be taking effect (another test script has successfully established that the Anonymous User can read the properties of PrototypeObject, in case that was an issue).
