Re: [Zope] zsql .dictionaries() question

I was very astonished about this statement because I was convinced, that the SQL Method were responsible to wrap the result into a "Results" objects. I looked in the code and see: if type(result) is type(''): f=StringIO() f.write(result) f.seek(0) result=RDB.File(f,brain,p, zc) else: result=Results(result, brain, p, zc) This means, that the result of a Z SQL Method is a "Shared.DC.ZRDB.RDB.File" object rather than a "Results" object when the database adapter returns a string rather than a list. Guess: "File" does not have a "dictionaries" method (but "names" and "data_dictionary"). Seems to be a case for the Collector. I seems bad to have almost identical code in two different modules. manage_clone and proxy roles
by Lee Harr 12 Aug '01

12 Aug '01

Hi: I have a folder "test" and in the folder "test" there is another folder "f". I want to have a method (preferably a python method) which creates a copy of "f" in the folder "test" and I want anyone to be able to do it (not just managers) so, I created a python method "c" as: context.manage_clone(context.test.f, 'f2') return "done" which works fine when I am logged in as manager, but throws up a login dialog when I am not. No problem, I figure, set the proxy role on "c" to 'Manager' and everything should be cool. Nope. Hmm. I think maybe this is not possible from python methods, so I try a dtml-method, as such: <dtml-call "manage_clone(f, 'f3')"> done Again, works fine when I am logged in as manager, but even if I set the proxy role on the method to 'Manager' I get the login dialog. I know I should probably be using a Zclass, but this seemed so simple 4 hours ago that I thought I would just zip it off this way. ~~Aargh!~~ Thanks for any wisdom! cut/paste
by Leland Myrick 12 Aug '01

12 Aug '01

I'm a zope newbie and have just started learning using The Zope Book. I signed up for one of the free accounts at zopesite.com and have been using it, but I have a pretty basic problem: when I cut something from within a folder, the paste button appears, but as soon as I navigate to another folder it disappears and I am unable to paste the object somewhere else. Am I missing something? leland myrick

Is it possible to add/create complex objects via FTP?
by jkinsley 12 Aug '01

12 Aug '01

I am building a site for which I am creating an 'extended folder' object. It is a subclass of Ordered Folder which adds about 15-25 additional properties. I am lazy and I hate web forms, so do not want to go through the web interface and create all the properties manually. :) Now then I would like to take my laziness one step further. I would like to be able to create a text/plain file containing something like: object_type = 'Extended Folder' id = 'foo' title = 'Extended Folder Foo' property1 = value1 property2 = 'value2' .... propertyn = ''' valuen line 1 valuen line 2 ''' then upload it into Zope via FTP. Is this possible? And if so, what methods would I need to implement in my product to make it work and/or where can I find documentation? If it is not currently possible, could this functionality be implemented into Zope? I can think of many other possibilities where it would be really nice such as adding a DTML Method via FTP instead it always being a DTML Document. Regards Jarrod Kinsley

installing Zope 2.4 as service on win2k
by Kevin Kuo 12 Aug '01

12 Aug '01

Hi, I recently installed zope 2.4 on a win2000 machine and it is causing weird things to happen to the OS. For example, I can't access my network configurations, I can't run media player, and I can't uninstall Zope and some other programs. I have read something regarding Python and Zope colliding, but I couldn't find out more through the mailing list for Zope or the python newsgroup. My configuration: Zope 2.4 WWW port: 8080, ftp: 8021. ActivePython 2.1 Python 2.2a1 IIS 5 WWW port: 80, ftp: 21. Userland Radio: 9081. I'd like to get back to development with Zope on my home machine as soon as possible, but I'm afraid history will just repeat itself. Any solutions, and ideas? Thanks in advance. Kevin

Re: [Zope] Create or edit instance objects
by Pablo Ziliani 11 Aug '01

Hi Tino, so far, to edit an "iii" instance I only had to call my "MMM" method this way from the web: "http://root/folder1/folder2/iii/MMM" so method MMM used iii object values. When the parent was a folder "http://root/folder1/folder2/MMM" the method itself set some defaults (even its id) to the request, so the instance could be created. This worked fine placing the method in an "acquirable" folder, but as I said before, I´m trying "MMM" to become a class method. The edit function worked fine by placing "MMM" in the "MyProduct/propertysheets/methods" folder but (of course), this way I couldn´t call it from a folder (to create a new instance) since it was only acquirable from MyProduct´s class instances. Now, in your proposed schema, how would you call the "xxx_class_add" method _VIA_WEB_ for it to get "iii" instance´s values (to edit them)? Thanks again, Pablo. Z Oracle Stored Procedure problems calling from other schemas
by Walter Miller 11 Aug '01

11 Aug '01

How can i call a stored procedure from another schema. I only have permission to call a stored procedure from an admin schema and not the schema it resides in. When I set up the Z Oracle Stored Procedure, it's ok with just the name of the procedure but when I test it, it says "[myprocdure] is not a valid stored procedure name." In SQLPlus I can call it from the admin schema without specifying the schema name it actually lives in. I tried specifying "schema.myprocedure" as the Procedure Name and that didn't work. Any ideas? mid function
by Hamzat kamal 11 Aug '01

I checked through the DTML function i could not find this function. I am writing a code where i will need to store the title of each dtml document with <dtml-let > and extract certain number of xters from the title and test it before calling a particular object. This function is widely used, but this is the way is been used in Vb mid(string, start [,length]) string - denote the var name start - " where you want to begin the extraction length - " the no of xters you want extract from the string E.g. let say my title is sunday05082001 then if i specify mid(title, 1, 6) the result of the fuction will be sunday. kindly help me out.
