Is this a feature or a bug
by Kerekes Lajos 09 Aug '01

Hali! I use <dtml-in foo size=5 start=start_point>. For example if the start_point=5 and the length of the foo's tuple is 13, then everything is ok. I get 5 item. But if the length of the foo's tuple is 12, then I get all 7 item remains in the tuple. It works wrong if the length of the remaing part of the list is lesser than size+size/2. Anybody knows about it? Thanks. Lajos

Use newer python for win32 zope?
by Keith J. Farmer 09 Aug '01

09 Aug '01

is zope 2.4.0 under win32 compatible with the more recent python releases? if so, can I just change the start file to just use it? z2.py already modifies sys.path on its own, correct? Almost there -- Keith

ZPT instead of DTML Methods
by Peter Bengtsson 09 Aug '01

09 Aug '01

The http://www.zope.org/Members/johanc/IEMethod/IEMethod product is baseclassed on DTML Methods. Can this not be changed to ZPT instead? Because then one would be able to insert business logic without fearing that Microsoft messes with you. I've noticed that DTML makes IEMethods pretty irreversable. Can this be done easily d'you think? I'll maybe give it a go. Peter

Threads, ZODB, deactivate, setstate, etc...
by Olivier Deckmyn 09 Aug '01

09 Aug '01

Hi there ! I am working on my product ZExternalNews (http://www.zope.org/Members/odeckmyn/ZExternalNews) I have a problem that I did not have anticipated ! My product is made of 3 classes: 1/ ZExternalNewsManager (usually one per site), folderish that contains several ZExternalNewsChannel 2/ ZExternalNewsChannel (several per Manager), itemish. Contains 2 persistent properties (title and url) and a _v_items, a list of ZExternalNewsItem 3/ ZExternalNewsItem a very simple Python class (no inheritance from zope nor ZODB). It handles an atomic news item (like a single news item in slashdot for example). When ZExternalNewsManager starts, I also "fork" a thread that (simplified) does : while 1: MyManager.Refresh() sleep(MyManager.delay) Where MyManager.Refresh is a loop that calls refresh on every channel. This would work in a wonderful land...but not in real life. I've been searching for hours now... My problem is : It works for some time (sometime 10sec, sometimes 2 hours, sometime 10 min...), and then, I got a lot of : 2001-08-07T17:36:04 ERROR(200) ZODB Couldn't load state for '\000\000\000\000\000\000WG' Traceback (innermost last): File /isp/zope/newfun/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 508, in setstate AttributeError: 'None' object has no attribute 'load' (a lot of = one per ZExternalChannel instance) and a last : Exception in thread Thread-4: Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/local/lib/python1.5/threading.py", line 376, in __bootstrap self.run() File "/isp/zope/newfun/lib/python/Products/ZExternalNews/ZExternalNews.py", line 454, in run self._manager.Refresh() File "/isp/zope/newfun/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py", line 508, in setstate p, serial = self._storage.load(oid, self._version) AttributeError: 'None' object has no attribute 'load' After hours of thinking, I think this is because ZODB ask my objects to go to sleep (is this DEACTIVATING ?). The last modification I made was to implement __setstate__ so that _v_* attributes are declared there : I thought it would be ok after that. It is not :( Please help me ! It is quite a frustrating experience ! Do not hesitate to Is there a document I should read before understanding ? I think I've read quite a lot of things until now ! ;) Attached is the latest version of the .py. Other part of the product is downloadable here : http://www.zope.org/Members/odeckmyn/ZExternalNews Thanx for your support. Olivier. (this question was posted 2 days ago on zope-dev, without answer, so I try here ;-D )

> From: Olivier Deckmyn [mailto:odeckmyn.list@teaser.fr] > After hours of thinking, I think this is because ZODB ask my > objects to go > to sleep (is this DEACTIVATING ?). My guess would be that it is related to persistance. When Zope tries to clean up the memory and write change objects to the ZODB it would seem that some of your objects are not saved, and so the values that they contain does no longer exist. Perhaps your list of ZExternalNewsItem is changed with an append(someItem) or somesuch. So you need to set self._p_changed=1 or something. It reminds me of a problem I had where I forgot to subclass persistence in a class, and suddenly some stuff would be there no longer while other thing was still there allright. regards Max M

fastcgi protocol
by Robert Frank 09 Aug '01

Hi, I'm in the process of writing a Roxen (webserver) module which should interface with Zope. I would like to do the same as the fastcgi module does for Apache. I have set up a simulation program, which simulates Zope in order to get the Roxen module to work. Using the simulation programm everything is fine, but when using Zope .... I need to know what to send to the socket (true TCP, not domain!) and what to expect from it. I start Zope with the following options: z2.py -X -u 90 -F 4445 -D Looking at the sources of Zope, I gathered the following: - open the socket - send a 10byte header containing the length of the following block as zero padded ascii - send the block containing the environment variables, each of the form: variable=value\0 - send a 10byte header containing the length of the following block as zero padded ascii - send the block containing the data from the browser (excluding the headers). - wait for a 10byte header containing the length of the following block as zero padded ascii - read the data to be sent to the browser, adding the confirmation line (e.g. HTTP 200 OK\r\n) - wait for a 10byte header containing the length of the following block as zero padded ascii - read the error data - close the socket Is this correct? What environment variables are neccessary? Thanks for any clarification, I really, really hope that someone out there can enlighten me and that I can get the module to work!
