disabling things
by Peter Bengtsson 31 Jul '01

Zope webmasters/sysadmins, We're not letting FTP traffic through to the server so we never use the FTP "feature" of Zope. Non of us use WebDav either. Supposing we disable these features, will it increase the Zope performance at all? (that being the only reason to disable them) Are there other things that can be disabled if you know you're not going to use them? best regards, Peter

"Avoid Software Piracy" ?
by Joel Burton 31 Jul '01

31 Jul '01

Noticed that the shiny new ZopeCorp pages all have "Avoid Software Piracy" as a future link in the "legal stuff" at the bottom. Stealing open source software, are we? ;-) Has Zope Corp offered any proprietary extensions to Zope? It sounded like (from Paul's presentation @ the ZPUGdc meeting this week) that there _might_ be some _future_ plans for this, but nothing yet. Or (as I prefer to see it), is it "Avoid software piracy; use Open Source software instead!" -- Joel Burton <jburton(a)scw.org> Director of Information Systems, Support Center of Washington

How to SSL
by Stephan Goeldi 31 Jul '01

31 Jul '01

I set up a site according to unfo's Howto at http://www.zope.org/Members/unfo/apache_zserver_ssl. I have one virtual server on port 80 doing http and another on port 443 doing ssl. The port 80 works with Rewrite rules in httpd.conf. The 443 port works with ProxyPass. In the Zope folder of the virtual server is a folder "ssl" with a SiteRoot pointing at https://www.website.com/. When I go to the website e.g. with http://www.website.com and down the tree, everything is ok. When I call https://www.website.com/something/manage I can now authenticate with SSL and everything is fine. But when I call https://www.website.com (the root of the website) it shows me the content of the /ssl Folder. Is this the way it should work? What is necessary to let me display the content of the root folder, when I call https://www.website.com/ ? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

I would guess your version of tar is broken (AT&T tar on Solaris and other platforms is messed up). Use GNU tar instead. can't edit DTML?
by Jack Coates 31 Jul '01

31 Jul '01

seems this would be a FAQ... Win2K, Apache 1.3.20, ProxyPass to Zope at http://localhost:8080/, using a Siteroot to push / into http://localhost/ I get the management interface, but clicking a DTML document displays in view mode instead of edit mode? -- Jack Coates Monkeynoodle: It's what's for dinner!

Zope works on myserver.com:8080 but not myserver.com
by Wayne Connolly 31 Jul '01

31 Jul '01

Subject: Hello! I have zope running behind apache and am using proxypass to direct all requests on myserver.com to myserver.com:8080 and then back again as below NameVirtualHost *<VirtualHost *> ServerName www.myserver.com ServerAdmin wayne_connolly(a)yahoo.com ProxyPass / http://myserver.com:8080/ ProxyPassReverse / http://myserver.com:8080/ I just cant seem to get requests on port 80 to be sent throught to 8080 where my zope lives and works perfectly. When you access myserver.com you recieve a "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server." however When you access myserver.com:8080 you recieve the correct zope index.html file. NOTE:The * in "NameVirtualHost *" and "<VirtualHost *>" is a wildcard which can allow us to change the ip of our box if need be quickly and accross all domains on the server. If you need any more config info then please just ask, I will try to help out any who can help me out, Thanks Wayne ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
