RSS channel tag

Hi I would like to add RSS channels created through the syndication tool to the Intranet Portal site on CMF1.1. I have installed the ChannelTag product in the InstanceHome/Products directory to add the channel. I have also installed the XMLDocument product. but the ChannelTag product appears broken and gives the following traceback Traceback (innermost last): File "/export/usr/local/Zope3/Zope_software_home/lib/python/OFS/Application.py", line 528, in import_products product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "/export/usr/local/Zope3/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/ChannelTag/_ _init__.py", line 25, in ? import ChannelManagement File "/export/usr/local/Zope3/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/ChannelTag/C hannelManagement.py", line 51, in ? from Channel import Channel, manage_addChannel, manage_addChannelForm File "/export/usr/local/Zope3/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/ChannelTag/C hannel.py", line 59, in ? from xml.sax import saxlib,saxexts ImportError: No module named xml.sax Can anyone please tell me what is mistake I am doing? Are there any special considerations for installing the ChannelTag product? Or is there any alternate way of doing the same? Thanks for any help. Priya

File extension mangling & FTP/WebDAV
by Joel Burton 30 Jul '01

As many of us know, it's tricky to edit DTML/ZPT files in GoLive and Dreamweaver because both of them expect valid HTML files to have an extension (to be fair, both allow you to configure these extensions, so we could use something like '.dtml'; we just can't have it be blank.) I think that naming DTML Docs & Methods with extensions is a Bad Thing -- then, links are dependent upon the format of the file. If you switch from a dtml method to a dtml document or to a PageTemplate, you'd have to change your links. (Plus, .extensions make for slightly uglier DTML code; see my message earlier this week about graphic files w/.gif or .jpg extensions.) One possible workaround would be to patch the FTP and WebDAV upload/download so that: * for all the files in a folders, the server would add a simulated extension. For example, for dtml methods, the server would report a file called 'index_html.dtmm', or for dtml documents, 'index_html.dtmd'. * this file could easily be updated by most HTML tools. * when saving this file, the Zope server would re-mangle the filename back to the original. It's definitely a hack, but could be coded in much less time than it will take Macromedia & Adobe to fix their programs. I'd be willing to take a first cut at this, but I'm hoping someone has already done this, or has begun this work. -- Joel Burton <jburton(a)scw.org> Director of Information Systems, Support Center of Washington

Re: [Zope] virtual hosting, Zope.cgi, and apache
by Steve Spicklemire 30 Jul '01

Hi Jack, I know it's sorta confusing. ZServer *is* doing pcgi. In my experience you get a little better performance using ProxyPass, but it's not a huge effect (no.. I haven't done any benchmarks.. just casual observation). The only real problem I've had with pcgi/rewrite is trying to server larger files. In these cases you may be better off server the files directly with apache, but then you lose Zope's nice security system. Of course, you can also mix Rewrite and ProxyPass if you like, Rewrite for directing stuff to apache (e.g., /static, /mailman, /cgi-bin) and ProxyPass (or [p] in rewrite I think is equivalent) for Zope. -steve On Sunday, July 29, 2001, at 10:43 PM, Jack Coates wrote: Hi all, I've always written everything in a text editor, so this whole app server thing is new to me... RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^(.*) /var/www/baydoula/zope/Zope.cgi$1 \ [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,L] </IfModule> Zope.cgi goes into Zope, in which everything seems to work. But, it's all one Zope. Reading the fine manual, it looks like I need to do a VirtualHostMonster and call subfolders, but it also looks like you need to use zserver to do that. 1) What's the best way to support three virtual hosts? 2) I assume Zserver would give better performance than Zope.cgi. Is it a big pain to switch? Seems like I would remove the pcgi .rpm and install the zserver .rpm, change the rewrites from files to localhost URLs, and restart zope and apache? 3) Failing that, are there a few files I can copy around to make separate installations? Bad idea (I suspect so, upgrades would get uglier than usual). <dtml-if "&dtml-var; != &dtml.-var;">

How can I check in a DTML Document if a html_quot'ed variable is unequal to the unquoted var? I tried without success: <dtml-if "&dtml-var; != &dtml.-var;"> var / unquoted: &dtml-var; <dtml-else> var </dtml-if> and also: <dtml-if expr="var != _.html_quote.var"> <dtml-if expr="var != var.html_quote"> <dtml-if expr="var != &dtml.-var;"> <dtml-if expr="var != <dtml-var var html_quote>"> I don't want to create a python script for this simple problem. html_quote is a DocumentTemplate function, but not exported, or? from DocumentTemplate import html_quote if self != html_quote(self): ... -- Reini Urban http://xarch.tu-graz.ac.at/home/rurban/

virtual hosting, Zope.cgi, and apache

Re: Is there a "Virtual Folder" Product??
by Philipp Robbel 29 Jul '01

Hi everyone, my last question regarding the MFolder product would be how to make the root folder of a Zope installation a MFolder? So far I can only add new MFolders but not change an existing (= / root) to that. It would be great if Dieter or anyone else who's using MFolder could help me on this. Thanks in advance, Philipp Robbel

hi_pranita writes: > I am new to Zope and was keen to know how to add JavaScript in Zope JavaScript does not work inside Zope but in your browser. You put your JavaScript either in a Zope File object and reference it in your HTML with <script src=... /> or you place it directly in the generated HTML. For the second approach, you can use all Zope facilities for page generation. > Secondly how does one use a .zexp file ?? You import it. Some zexps can only be imported in the products folder...
