Hi, I have created a packge in my oracleDB with a simple procedure to test and learn to use Z Stored Procedures. My packege and procedure works in Oracle ok. Here is the code: PACKAGE test_pkg IS PROCEDURE conta_reg; END; PACKAGE BODY TEST_PKG IS PROCEDURE conta_reg IS total NUMBER; BEGIN SELECT COUNT(*) INTO total FROM ASSUNTOS; END; END; Them I created in Zope a ZstoredProcedure object to test my procedure( initially it was a function that returned the value of total). After creation my ZstoredProcedure returned the message: "procedure TEST_PKG.CONTA_REG has arguments:" So it reconized the TEST_PKG.CONTA_REG in the oracle database. Then I decided to test the procedure call and pressed test and got the following error: (6550, 'ORA-06550: line 1, column 27:\012PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol ":" when expecting one of the following:\012\012 ( ) - + mod not null others \012 avg\012 count current exists max min prior sql stddev sum variance\012 cast \012 \012The symbol ":" was ignored.') Does anyone knows what is going on? Why ZstoredProcedure didn't call correctly the TEST_PKG.CONTA_REG in the oracle database? Any bug in ZstoredProcedure that I am not aware? Thanks Ricardo

Zope 2.4.0 on RedHat 7.0? Problems with Python module compilation and start script.

Hi, Has anyone successfully installed Zope 2.4.0 on RedHat 7.0 from the binary distribution? Compilation of the Python modules generates a bunch of error messages, caused by what seems to be syntax errors. The start script hangs when attempting to start the ZServer Monitor Server. This causes autostart via an rc.d script to hang the system boot process. Manual start results in Zope coming up despite the start script hanging. I don't know if anything is seriously broken by the error messages and the start script hang. I have tried installing from the source distribution, but my attempt at installing Python 2.1.1 resulted in problems, which is why I am now trying the binary distribution. Thanks, /Ben

Installing Zope, Python 2.1 / RedHat etc....

Hi All Well its time for my first post, I hope this is not in HTML :-) I've installed various different versions of Zope under RedHat and Debian with help from the other guys here at NIP. I think from my experience with RedHat, the important thing is NOT to overwrite the python152 install. If you follow the python2.1 install instructions, do your make, and then make ALTINSTALL it does not replace the symlink and so typing python starts python152, so all the scripts under RedHat still work :-) See the bottom of the install text in the doc directory. After installing Python2.1 you need to check that python2.1 starts, try typing python2.1 in your home directory. If it doesn't, you'll have to add a link in one of the directories in your path (eg /usr/local/lib, off the top of my head, but don't quote me) to make that happen. Then you can compile Zope 2.4 using "python2.1 w_pcgi.py" and it should all go smoothly... Well hopefully! I was surprised how many things don't work under RedHat if you just upgrade your python version :-) Oops!... Just shows how much Python is used :-) Is there a newbie tutorial covering the basics of things like tar, and installing zope... I know its not directly related to Zope but the world of *nix anc feel a little chilly for the first few hours. It soon warms up though :-) I guess good newbie documentation is the best way of getting people hooked, don't want to scare them off before they've started. I'm also working on sorting out the Instance_Home stuff in my mind, and guess that would be useful to other folks too, especially looking at the posts about upgrading to Zope 2.4 and so on... Anyway, hope that adds something rather than just repeating what everyone else is saying ;-) Chris K
