Wouldn't it be more "right" to export the objects as *.zexp-files and import them in the new server ?? /Eivind -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: Paul Zwarts [mailto:paz@oratrix.com] Sendt: 24. juli 2001 13:46 Til: Gitte Wange; Paul Zwarts Cc: zope(a)zope.org Emne: RE: [Zope] update 2.3.3 to 2.4.0 Well, You'll have to ask the big people of zope... Comparing object values?
by Paul Smith 24 Jul '01

24 Jul '01

Dear all, Stuck on something at the moment, which I hope you can shed some light on: I'm trying to use a dependency in order to decide whether to print a value; the dependency being on the 'page' having an ID of index_html Code snippet: <dtml-unless expr="id=='index_html'"> <dtml-var id> </dtml-unless> This does not work - I'm assuming this is because ID is an object, rather than a string, and therefore not comparable. I've tried converting the object to a string, but this goofs and prints nothing to the screen: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('page_id', _.str(id))"> <dtml-var page_id> but this deposits something like: <Python Method object at 14c9990> within the source, before I get anywhere near trying to make comparisons... Anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? First I hope you don't care if I CC this to the list, since I've forgotten some info which answers your question in my announce I think it's OK, but please forgive me if it's not. On Tue, 24 Jul 2001, Peter Bengtsson wrote: > more about your improvements on load_site > > When I upload photos to my site I do that using th load_site.py module > because I have Zope 2.3.0 and it doesn't support uploading via the ZMI or in > scripts large photos. > To save time and not having to click each photo and set the title property I > do that with the filename. > > naked~My dad naked.jpg is uploaded on the server as an Image object. > Then I start a script that converts the image to a Photo object and renames > it and gives it a title. > > Image: > id: naked~My dad naked.jpg > title: > ...becomes... > Photo: > id: naked.jpg > title: My dad naked > > Nifty isn't it. > Perhaps some implementation like that in your new load_site? My parser for > the id and title is well tested, perhaps you want it (pas grave). I've forgotten to say it in my announce of the patch: The title property is also set to the original file name this way: title: file:/My dad naked.jpg Perhaps we should discard every path component and the extension to only keep "My dad naked". PS: that's not MY new load_site.py, that's just a patch. I don't plan to become load_site's maintainer... bye, Jerome Alet

Request for Status Report

Hi all, I hope somebody inside or outside Digital Creations can give me some more information on the following topics. I need to make a decission on these now and I would like to know a little bit about there future. I know everybody is busy, I'm just asking, hope that doesn't do much hurt. If for a certain reason, I should now all the answers to these questions myself (eg if they are somewhere posted) then let me know and guide me to the information source, thanks! I'm using the core session tracking product in a project. I would like to use it again, but: It seems the development stopped a few months back. That is, before there were more updates to the project and now there aren't. This can be a good or a bad sign. I also thought that this product would be implemented in the zope core. Now lot's is happening with the core lately (move to zope 2.4 with python 2.2.1). My question, Is the core session product still under development, is it finished or is it depreciated? Will it be someday in the zope core and how does it work under zope 2.4? Further I'm looking at the Zope Page Templates. I would like to look deeper in to it (sorry, hadn't the time to look at it earlier), but how does it work under Zope 2.4? Will it be (at the end) in the zope core as well? ZPT is dependent on ParsedXML, where is this project going? Is the latest version now also available on Windows (I'm one of these guys who doesn't has a really prefered operating system, I use both)? Thanks in advance! Tom.

Using DTMLFile or PageTemplateFile in methods
by Peter Bengtsson 24 Jul '01

24 Jul '01

I use ZPT files for my templates for my Python product development. This is what I do: def manage_addInstance(self,id): self._setObject(id, Instance(id)) class Instance(SimpleItem): def __init__(self,id): self.id = id # in the products folder there is a file called index.zpt index_html = PageTemplateFile('index', globals()) Now, this works, but consider the following extension to the class. class Instance(SimpleItem): def __init__(self,id): self.id = id def which_index_html(self): return PageTemplateFile('index', globals()) index_html = which_index_html That does NOT work! It looks like a small change, but I might be wrong. How to do this anyone? In my product the templates used will change inside the instance, so that /mysite/instance1 uses one template and /mysite/instance2 uses another. Cheers, Peter

I tried that (packing the database), but got error messages wich I really didn't have the time to worry about, so I didn't care. Thus I went the other way, the exporting/importing items alternative. Works fine if your site is small. If you have large size folders it would be better you have tons of memory. I'm joining you guys, in the look for an official way to perform this. :) Ausum Paul Zwarts wrote: > > Well, You'll have to ask the big people of zope... I'm just a user.
