Parents id of a specific object
by Benoit DOMINIAK 19 Jul '01

19 Jul '01

Hi, Is there a way to get the id of an object's parent (container) ? I've tryed : <dtml-with "_.getitem(object)"> <dtml-var "PARENTS[0].getId()"> </dtml-with> but I always get the id of the ancestor of the published object. Just like the Zope book said !! Any idea ? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

RE: [Zope] Using Zope
by Todd Cranston-Cuebas 19 Jul '01

Jen, I'm a newbie, so I can't tell you exactly how to do this. Since Zope supports webdav, you can use this extension to the http protocol to allow your people to use a WYSIWYG editor, like DreamWeaver and GoLive. They use the WYSIWIG editor and when they save the file, it is actually saved across the net to the server. The "file" is one of the dtml objects in the ZODBC. They don't have to use the Zope management interface or really even know they are interacting with the server to a large extent. You can also check out http://www.webdav.org <http://www.webdav.org> for more info. When the Zope server is started, you use the -W argument to the start command to start webdav support. You'll have to also assign a port to the webdav traffic. Your start command would look something like (assuming you're using unix/linux)... ./start -W 8070 where 8070 is a the port of your choosing. It's funny, we went over this is our user group last night, the LA Zope User's Group (lazug.org) but getting this all to work is beyond is beyond my experience. Anyone else have details on making this work? I'd especially be interested in knowing how to set up DreamWeaver webdav interaction with the Zope server. Todd -----Original Message----- From: Jen [mailto:cf_webdev@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2001 1:16 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Using Zope Hello: I've been given the task of exploring the use of Zope for a department that we support. I have just been going through some of the manuals and online documentation. The creation of pages seems very basic and understandable from my viewpoint. However, the material I have found doesn't seem to address the use of Zope by non-HTML/basic scripting literate people (or at least how to develope a framework for non-web literate people to use). The department that we have in mind couldn't tell a <p> tag from an <ol> tag. They have only ever used a WYSIWYG interface. My question is, does anyone know where I can find information or a "tutorial" on how to create a framework like this? So that your average secretary can just update the actual text of the page much like in a WYSIWYG editor fashion? Or are we better suited by a different product? Thank you! Jenny _____ Do You Yahoo!? tree tag - only for folders?
by Lee 19 Jul '01

19 Jul '01

Hi there, I have a quick about the tree tag - maybe someone can help me out? I understand that it is (only/mainly) used for representing objects/folders, but what about other sorts of dynamic content - can it be used with database data? I shall try and explain how I want to use it... I'm making a little bookmark app for my homepage where all my bookmarks are listed by category (e.g. Zope, Perl, Music). Rather than having something like... <dtml-in getCategories><b><dtml-var categoryTitle>:</b> <ul> <dtml-in getLinks><li>link info here</li></dtml-in> <ul> </dtml-in> I would like to have a [+] expansion 'thing' next to each category, where clicking it would create a list of associated hyperlinks for that category. e.g. [+] Music [+] Perl [-] Zope Zope.org ZopeNewbies.com Too much graphical detail there I fear :-o But I hope that I'm making sense. I remember seeing a bit of DHTML a few years ago which would produce the desired results, but before spending another year looking for it, I'd like to know if the tree tag could be used in this way. Thanks very much in advance for any help! Lee

HTTP caching troubles
by Nicolas Villetard 19 Jul '01

19 Jul '01

I use a "HTTP cache manager" (Zope 2.4) for caching dynamic pages written in python (external methods called from DTML methods). It seems to work correctly when I try on my computer (which is also the server) : the script is called only the first time. But when I try on another computer (but same server) the script is called the first time too ! It's not a problem of cache "interval" (I checked it). It seems that the cache is specific to a computer...(!!?) Is there an explanation ? solution ? ____________________________________________________________________ - http://www.WebMailSPro.com - >> VOTRE service d'email sans pub avec VOTRE nom de domaine

RE: [Zope] ODBC, SQL,Zope, NT4 , Jshell
by Farrell, Troy 19 Jul '01

Errrrgh! I had this problem long ago and I don't remember how I solved it. Waaaaay back when I was still using Access. Hmmm. First, turn on ODBC debugging. For this, we need to examine the SQL.log file it creates. Look at that and we need to see if python can talk to Access over ODBC. Is the traceback in the HTML source? Troy There was no data matching this Insert a Customer query. Thanks for the quick reply. Here is what I get displayed on the screen. There was no data matching this Insert a Customer query. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SQL used: There was no data matching this Insert a Customer query. I love this. How come this isn't anywhere on Zope.org? """ Some newer open source products are also becoming popular. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization uses one of those, Zope, for a tracking system that locates both NATO's and antagonists' troops, vehicles and ships around the world, said Tom Morling, vice president of marketing at Digital Creations, a systems consulting company and Zope's publisher.
