I'm trying to produce the following results in an HTML form list/menu where: <dtml-var name> - <dtml-var descirption> gives me something like: [ http://www.zope.org - the official Zope homepage ] I only want the first few characters of the description though i.e. [ http://www.zope.org - the official... ] I'm having a little problem getting the desired results though as I get an *Error Type: KeyError* *Error Value: description[0]* <dtml-in expr="getLinks(category=_['name'])"> <option value="<dtml-var url>"><dtml-var name> - <dtml-var expr="_['description[0]']"> <-- problem here obviously <dtml-var expr="_['description[1]']"> | | <dtml-var expr="_['description[9]']">... </option> </dtml-in> Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance :) Lee

But be careful... you'll get an error when you bump up against the root. You need to test for it... something like <dtml-if expr="_.hasattr(this(), 'aq_parent')"> <dtml-if expr="_.hasattr(this().aq_parent, 'aq_parent')"> > From: "Benoit Dominiak" <benoit.dominiak(a)makinacorpus.com> > Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 14:39:48 +0100 > To: "marc lindahl" <marc(a)bowery.com> > Subject: RE: [Zope] Parents id of a specific object > > > Yes, it works !! display properties
by Menno Brandsen 18 Jul '01

I have a question about displaying properties of an image The situation is this : I have a folder called images, where users can upload pics. when the pic gets uploaded, the id also gets stored into a MySQL database when a certain page is called it retrieves the correct image from the folder by connecting the ImageID from the database to the id in the folder So far so good, this works fine. but when I retrieve the image from the folder I also need the width and the height from the image, and that's the part I do not seem to get right this is the code I tried : ( Photo is the DataBase entry ) <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('photo',Photo)"> <dtml-with expr="inbox.photos.objectValues()"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id',id)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('width',width)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('height',height)"> <dtml-if "photo == id"> <dtml-var id> <dtml-var width> <dtml-var height> <dtml-else> No Pic </dtml-if> </dtml-with> I hope someone can help me out with this Thanx in advance, Menno

ZServer Security Question
by Chris Gray 18 Jul '01

I'm getting a number of "Successful login" entries in Zope log files. (I've included a sample of the log entries below.) I'm not sure what this message means, but I'm concerned about unknown users logging in to ZServer. This instance of Zope is only used for intranet stuff and yet the connections are comming from other domains. I recently took down an instance of Microsoft IIS that was running on port 80 on this machine (for security reasons) and moved the Zope instance from port 8080 to port 80. Thanks, Chris 2001-07-16T16:47:58 INFO(0) ZServer Incoming connection from 64.230.186.27:3742 ------ 2001-07-16T16:48:02 INFO(0) ZServer Successful login. ------ 2001-07-17T03:53:02 INFO(0) ZServer Incoming connection from 205.211.56.250:4409 ------ 2001-07-17T03:53:03 INFO(0) ZServer Incoming connection from 205.211.56.250:4493 ------ 2001-07-17T09:52:40 INFO(0) ZServer Incoming connection from 212.190.2.185:4867 ------ 2001-07-17T09:52:40 INFO(0) ZServer Successful login. ------ 2001-07-18T00:48:33 INFO(0) ZServer Incoming connection from 172.190.169.14:4190 ------ 2001-07-18T00:48:34 INFO(0) ZServer Successful login. ------ 2001-07-18T10:06:29 INFO(0) ZServer Incoming connection from 217.4.246.45:1935 ------ 2001-07-18T10:06:29 INFO(0) ZServer Successful login.

Re: [Zope] tree tag - only for folders?

There's a howto I did some time ago on zope.org - see http://www.zope.org/Members/anthony/tree-coding-tricks I think some of it needs to be updated a bit for more recent versions of zope, but it should help you get started... >>> Lee wrote > Hi there, > > I have a quick about the tree tag - maybe someone can help me out? I'd like to hear more about that myself, from the dtml/python gurus. I never get tired of reading the simple explanations for these enigmatic constructs. But then they ruin it by pointing out that there are five other ways to get the same thing--then I'm lost again. :) But I know that _ is the namespace, everything that is to be had is inside there, including form, querystring and envirnment vars. And using [] is a way (I think) of saying return the text of the id rather than the object it represents. But I stand corrected in advance for probably being wrong or too narrow in this explanation. There's a number of different i18n packages on zope.org - ZBabel and Localiser (sp?) I think are two. See if either of them suit your needs. Anthony >>> "A. aquisition+init problem
by Koukis Dimitrios-Vassilios 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

I am facing a problem while tring to develop a product.I want to use an attribute of the parent of my object but the problem is that i want to use it in the __init__ method. The problem occurs due to the fact that i am tring to use aquisition over the object while it is not "ready" because __init__ isn't over yet.(for example there is no attribute self.aq_parent meaning that aquisition can't be used yet ). In particular i have a folder containing a database connection and in the same folder i am tring to create an instance of my object. In it's __init__ method i want to contact the database and create a table for example. The problem is that the database connection can't be found because as said before there is no aquisition yet. So if i want to do something while constructing the object using a function that requires an attribute of the parent what should i do? Thanx PS:Because i am not yet subscribed to the list please be sure that my e-mail address is in the cc field.A

images as properties of a document.
by Tom Cameron 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

I am wondering how I might create a property of a DTML Document that is an image. In the standard implementation of a DTML Document, the properties can be strings, lines, text etc. I would like to create a new type of document with the ability to create a property that is an image and upload it to the page as you edit the property. Can anybody suggest how I would go about this? I have not created a product before, but I am game to try. I am really looking for some hints and tips. Perhaps an existing product that is similar that I could copy or subclass. As a further explanation, I am trying to create a very structured template page. The end user simply edits the properties of the page and I create the templates and how it renders by modifying the index_html method. I have looked at ZPT and they dont seem to do exactly what I want. TIA Tom Cameron

AW: [Zope] Difference between zope and apache

No, it's only true for XHTML, because XHTML is "A Reformulation of HTML 4 in XML 1.0" (http://www.w3.org/TR/2000/REC-xhtml1-20000126/) > Funny that the w3c validator doesn't like it. The w3c HTML validator also checks XHTML (since June _2000_). But maybe Zope doesn't mark the HTML as being XHTML (by inserting the right "<!DOCTYPE ..." at the beginning)? Zope 2.3.2 doesn't do that by itself. Jan could try to insert it manually, and check if the validator still complains. Hon.
