Lost with ZEO Setup
by Alex Kelly 18 Jul '01

I have tried to follow the "Advanced Production Site with ZEO" from http://www.zope.org/Members/dshaw/AdvancedSiteSetup but have not been able to make it work. I am trying to use Zope-2.3.3 and ZEO-1.0b3 on a Solaris 8 box. I have followed the steps exactly (all the directory names are the same, and I have used the configuration files and startup scripts from that page. In the log file (from STUPID_LOG_FILE in zope.conf) I get: # cat ZEO_Server.log ------ 2001-07-18T19:17:07 INFO(0) zdaemon zdaemon: Wed Jul 18 15:17:07 2001: Houston, we have forked ------ 2001-07-18T19:17:07 INFO(0) zdaemon zdaemon: Wed Jul 18 15:17:07 2001: Houston, we have forked ------ 2001-07-18T19:17:07 INFO(0) zdaemon zdaemon: Wed Jul 18 15:17:07 2001: Hi, I just forked off a kid: 23923 ------ 2001-07-18T19:17:12 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File /opt/WWW/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZEO/start.py, line 268, in main File /opt/WWW/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZEO/__init__.py, line 86, in ? Since I am new to both Zope and Python, when it doesn't work...I really don't know where to look. Alex Kelly Internet System Administrator Franklin University

Acquisition bug ?
by Gilles Lenfant 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

Hi, I got a MailHost object at /site/MailHost that's used successfully from objects in /site subfolders. There's a particular folder /site/subscribe from which there's no way to use this MailHost (object not found). I can't understand cause there are no special security features in that MailHost or in that particular folder! In addition, DTML documents from that folder, including the one that has the <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> can acquire other objects from /site like the standard_html_header. The only workaround I found is to make a copy of this MailHost in /site/subscribe. Any hint ? Regards --Gilles

multi-language apps
by A. Giacomelli 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

hi, i would appreciate feedback from the list on the implementation of multilanguage applications in zope. my experience is in php, where i have been working wih 'dictionaries' based on associative arrays, e.g. key_water-> 'it' -> 'acqua', 'en' -> 'water', ... and then retrieving definitions via something like getdef($selected_language,key_water) other localization issues (e.g. changing international phone prefixes, currency etc.) are then dealt with by checking the $selected_language variable (typically associated to a cookie). i have read about the dtml-vary tag, but i would not see it impractical to implement database-based dictionaries close to the associative array thing. TIA for any comments, and regards -- ========================================= Andrea Giacomelli Centre for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia Environment Group http://www.crs4.it/~andreag =========================================

Difference between zope and apache
by Jan-Frode Myklebust 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

Hi, I've just noticed an annoying difference in the handling of directories in zope. If I create an directory /myDirectory, put an index_html file there, and a my.css file the index_html should use in the same directory refering to it with <link rel=stylesheet type=text/css href="my.css"> in the head of my document I get a structure that would work perfectly fine in apache, but not in zope. /myDirectory /myDirectory/index_html /myDirectory/my.css Accessing http://example.com/myDirectory in zope would give me the files http://example.com/myDirectory/index_html and http://example.com/my.css In apache the server would return a location header like: Location: http://example.com/myDirectory/ and then my browser would know it should ask for http://example.com/myDirectory/my.css Zope doesn't seem to set the location header, so asking for http://example.com/myDirectory/ http://example.com/myDirectory returns different results if the index_html contains relative URLs below /myDirectory/. Bug or feature? -jf

Underscore in Python Modules
by P B 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

Hello, I have a number of python modules I would like to run from ZOPE. The problem is that they contain many underscores and double underscores. So when I try to import them as Python Scripts, Zope gives me an error that "attributes beginning with _ are not allowed" Is there a way around this? thanks __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? stopping acquisition
by Dan Keshet 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

Hi, I have a method method_x. If there is a method_y in the same folder (not acquired!) as where method_x is being executed, I want to do one action, otherwise, some other. I tried this <dtml-with aq_explicit> <dtml-if method_y> Yup <dtml-else> Nope </dtml-if> </dtml-with> But it says "Yup" in Folders without a method_y Any help?

this() permission problem
by seb bacon 18 Jul '01

18 Jul '01

I'm getting an Unauthorised exception from my DTML Method, for anything which refers to this(). I find this a bit bemusing since this() just returns self. So, for example, I *can* do: <dtml-var getId> But I can't do: <dtml-var "this().getId()"> Any ideas? I am trying to make a value from an SQL query the selected one from an HTML option list. You can't use dtml inside dtml. You probably mean: <td> <select name="Type"> <option <dtml-if expr="_['Type'] == 'Call'">selected</dtml-if>> Call </option> <option <dtml-if expr="_['Type'] == 'Meeting'">selected</dtml-if>> Meeting </option> <option <dtml-if expr="_['Type'] == 'Letter'">selected</dtml-if>> Letter </option></select> </td> Troy -----Original Message----- From: Tim Considine [mailto:timc@bizdev.co.uk] Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 12:55 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] HTML Selected not working I am trying to make a value from an SQL query the selected one from an HTML option list.
