Searching ZCatalog - sub-words?
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 08 Jul '01

08 Jul '01

My company, a major US newspaper, are about to deploy a new online classified ad system built using Zope. ZCatalog queries are at the core of the system's functionality, and I am very happy with the status of our system's search abilities using a globbing vocabulary. My concern is that not all users are "power searchers" -- in fact, most will be using the default search box on the site's front page and not even know that they can do wildcard searches. A search of one day's worth of classified ads for "engineer" brings up 40 results; a search for "engineer OR engineers" brings up 49 items; a search for "engineer OR engineers OR engineering" brings up 79 items; a search for "engineer*" brings up 83. I guess what I am wondering is if there is a way to search with sub-words without explicit use of wildcards? That is to say, provide a default option (perhaps something that could be disabled with a simple checkbox in the quick search form) that automatically searches using sub-words, so that a search for engineer was actually rewritten as a search for "engineer*" instead. I suppose that one could rewrite REQUEST['nameOfIndexToBeSearched'] prior to <dtml-in Catalog> to achieve those results, but I am wondering if there might be a simpler solution? Thoughts? How to set default permissions for objects in extern product
by Dirksen 08 Jul '01

08 Jul '01

Hi, I want default permission settings for my object, which is an external product. I'd like, when people add my object to their folder, the object has already created the appropriate custom roles, and associated with them the appropriate permissions. I've tried to add a line 'self.manage_roles("member", "View management screens")' to the __init__ method of my object, but it doesn't work. Any idea? Site statistics

Hello, I was just wondering if Zope logs who visits what on a site ??? Usually everything that happens on your webpages (when you e.g. use apache) ends up in you webservers access_log. But does ZServer logs the same ? If so - has anyone created a product to get this data out of the log files and display them on a webpage ?? Before I started on Zope, I was using something called webalizer. Or - is it hard to "analyze" a log file and display the data from it ??? Regards, Gitte Wange

ZSQL w/direct traversal look everywhere else before passing value
by Joel Burton 08 Jul '01

08 Jul '01

If I create a ZSQL method called "by_id", and set it to use direct traversal, and give it a URL like this: http://foo.com/by_id/board It returns my page at /board, rather than passing board as the value required by ZSQL method. If I do this; http://foo.com/by_id/board/my_display_method it raises an error, as my_display_method never gets the results of the ZSQL method, therefore, things that would have passed along, like board member name, etc., never arrive. An obvious but icky solution is to not have anything in my acquisition path that might be passed as a value to the ZSQL method. This is really ugly though, since new values are added to the database all the time, and it would be hard to make sure this doesn't happen. Ideas? Fellow sufferers? Workarounds? All would be appreciated. Thanks! -- Joel Burton <jburton(a)scw.org> Director of Information Systems, Support Center of Washington

Re: [Zope] Access SQL record from list

Hi Alan Thanks for this - I have tried to integrate this into my code as follows (some edited for brevity), but I get an error KeyError on KeyValue ContactID. But I can't see where it is wrong - the SQLContactRecord method works fine manually. SQLContactRecord (SQLMethod) ======================== argument : CID select FirstName from contacts where ContactID=<dtml-sqlvar CID type=int> ViewContact (DTML) =============== <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-call "SQLContactRecord(CID=CID)"> You selected <dtml-var FirstName> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ShowAllContacts ============ <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-in SQLContactsListLastName> <table> <tr> <td><a href="ViewContact?CID=<dtml-var ContactID url_quote>"><dtml-var ContactID></a></td> <td><dtml-var FIRSTNAME></td> <td><dtml-var LASTNAME></td> </tr> </table> </dtml-in> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Any thoughts ? manage_defined_roles pb.
by Didier Georgieff 08 Jul '01

08 Jul '01

Hello, I've created a Zclass, with a need for some roles. So i've created a setup method (localized on the root folder) for adding this role. Looking at the ZMI code shows that this should work. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('role','PopotoGest')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('submit','Add Role')"> <dtml-call "manage_defined_roles(REQUEST['role'],REQUEST['submit'],)"> This raise no error BUT doesn't create the role. Did I missed something ? And what ? Thanks in advance.

Fishbowl process for private intranets
by Mark Langkau 08 Jul '01

08 Jul '01

Hi, We think the Fishbowl process is a Very Good Thing (TM) and would like to implement it on our company intranet for our own development projects. Are project templates available for download anywhere? In other words, when a new proposal for a project is initiated in the DC Fishbowl process, are those "starter" outlines/wiki pages available for others to use outside of dev.zope.org? Even if we didn't implement the workflow process, having the blank templates and links would be incredibly helpful. (And would perhaps spark an internal interest here to contribute to the Zope development process ). I believe that the best software development practices are being developed and implemented within the Open Source community. And, specifically, the Zope Fishbowl process looks like a great model that we would like to implement. (Using Zope of course ;-) I have already started the process on our intranet - with the code name "Palmolive Project." Remember the old TV commercial for the dishwashing zope.. er, soap? Madge would be telling her manicure customer about how great the product was on your hands, when she would casually say "you know, you're soaking in it?" Well, now that our Zope/CMF intranet has become the accepted source for internal docs and such, I can now say "you know, you're soaking in it." Suddenly everyone wants to participate. (hehehe) Thanks, Mark

Access SQL record from list
by Tim Considine 08 Jul '01

08 Jul '01

I am confused how to access a specific record in a MySQL database, from an HTML table holding the results of an SQL query. For example I use a DTML method with a form to specify a name, and then call an SQLMethod, which returns a list of names into an HTML table. I can specify an HTML link to another DTML or SQL Method, but I am not sure what that method should be. Any advice ? Tim Considine
