DCOracle2 icons
by Garry Steedman 07 Jul '01

07 Jul '01

Hello all, have just installed DCOracle2 on SuSE 7.1, Zope 2.3.1 (SuSE RPM, uses Python 2.0). Can connect to Oracle 8.1.7 fine, but can't get the icons to display in the management interfaces: anyone have any tips/experience of this? cheers, Garry +-------------------------------------------+ Garry Steedman mailto:gs@styrax.com Styrax Associates http://www.styrax.com/ "The Good Man has no shape." +-------------------------------------------+

Python script bug: map
by Li Dongfeng 07 Jul '01

07 Jul '01

Try this simple python script: print map(None, (1,2)) return printed in standalone python this should produce ['1','2'] but in zope-2.4.0b3 we get an error: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: loop over non-sequence a sneak at the code in lib/python/AccessControl/ZopeGuards.py, the error occured in function "guarded_map", the parameter "seqs" should receive "(1, 2)" but instead it received "((1,2),)". This bug is reported to the collector as No. 2382. Li Dongfeng

ZSQL select on date/time
by Loren Stafford 07 Jul '01

07 Jul '01

Does anyone have a working example of how to select on a date/time column in an MSAccess database. Something like Arguments: FromDate:date select * from "Applicant Database" where [Date Received] > <dtml-sqlvar FromDate type=float> ...except the above syntax produces: Error type: sql.error Error value: ('07001', -3010, '[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too few parameters. Expected 1.') ...regardless of value of type. -- Thanks -- Loren

I think the question comes up a lot because when you have a db that is non-relational, it's extremely difficult to get a handle on it's performance / reliability. With a relational database there are some standard benchmarks (granted the vendors manipulate these in various ways but you can get a fairly good idea of their general performance). The anecdotal, it's fast because I've seen it's fast is not quite as good as a standard test. Most of the sql database vendors provide some means for managing the underlying files that actually store the data. Allowing me to add more, put them on separate partitions, etc. They also make it fairly easy to get the doc on how they layout the storage in these data files. They actually feature that in their development oriented doc -- to show how much better their technique is then other vendors. To reduce the number of questions in this area, it seems like these two issues should be addressed. Anecdotally :) --- I've become more comfortable with the Zope approach through usage and gathering the doc that is available in various places. Thanks for the feedback. ----- Original Message ----- From: seb bacon Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 2:17 PM To: Steve Drees Cc: Frank McGeough; Zope@Zope. I just had to chip in and repeat your point again just to emphasise it, since this question comes up so much :-) I would always use the ZODB FileStorage unless there was a very good reason not to. It's fast, supports undos, is easy to back up, and keeps all your application in one place. The only two good reasons, not to do so are: 1) if your OS has a nastily small file size limit (e.g. pre-2.4 Linuxen) 2) If you need to access the same data from elsewhere (e.g. membership data in an LDAP storage) sebGet more from the Web. RE: [2360] Zope Bug: 2.4.0b2 still doesn't run on windows I am running Windows 2000, SP1, Thinkpad 600, 223(?)MB ram, and have tried versions of Zope from 2.3.2 through 2.4.0b3. I tried > > "from AccessControl import import getRolesInContext" > > but it didn't seem to work, what did you do? > Hi Eric, you don't have to import anything. The expression: <dtml-var expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getRolesInContext(this())"> is right there in a DTML method. When I was looking for that stuff myself, I searched the mailing list archives. Got to: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ and search for *getRolesInContext*. I also use it in an external method. I show the users on the site, who has *Editor* roles on a specific object. The code for the external method is: def showEditors(self, role, userfolder, obj): """ This function gets the users, who have a certain role *role* in context of object *obj* and gives back a list of those users. In *userfolder* the actual userfolder object has to be brought in (this is usually *acl_users*). """ roles = {} editors = [] userids = userfolder.getUserNames() for userid in userids: user = userfolder.getUser(userid) roles[userid] = user.getRolesInContext(obj) for k in roles.keys(): for v in roles[k]: if v == role: editors.append(k) return editors Also here, I don't have to import anything. For example I can call the above (external) method from a dtml method like (id of the external method is *showEditorsExt*): <dtml-if expr="_.len( showEditorsExt('Editor', _['acl_users'], this()) ) > 0"> <dtml-in expr="showEditorsExt('Editor', _['acl_users'], this())"> <dtml-var sequence-item><br> </dtml-in> <dtml-else> -- Nobody -- </dtml-if> And all this works quite nicely with local roles. The *Editor* role is set mostly as a local role in my case. HTH --- Flynt

Apples and oranges... Mandrake is not better than Zope and Zope is > not better than Mandrake! Agreed. Plus I use zope and postgres together all the time. Which is better? I don't know. In their respective domains I feel they are each the best 'free' choice available, if not simply the best choice. I still voted for Zope.

RE: [Zope] SybaseDA2.0v2 installation problem

Jason, I haven't done Sybase in quite a while but somewhere you'll probably have to point to your local installation of the Sybase client. Within which should be both an include directory containing the respective CT-Lib header files (for the compile step) and a lib directory with link libraries (ctlib.so or libct.a or somesuch).
