Migrating to Zope2.3.3
by Priya Ramkumar 06 Jul '01

06 Jul '01

Hi I have installed Zope2.3.3 & ZEO1.0. I would now like to move the Data.fs in my old Zope installation(2.2.4) , which has CMF0 0.10alpha, to the new Zope installation. Earlier, I had copied the Data.fs, Data.fs.lock, Data.fs.tmp & Data.fs.old to the "var" directory in "Instance_home" of the new installation. But it resulted in a datacorruption error. So I have redone the Installation & would be thankful if anyone could please tell me the process of migrating the Database to Zope2.3.3. I have custom_zodb.py, zope.conf & zctl.py in my "Instance_home " directory & the ZEO in "lib/python" under "Zope_software_home". Thanks for any help. Priya.

Help with iterating thru a list of objects
by Dario Lopez-Kästen 06 Jul '01

06 Jul '01

Hello! I need to display the results of an sql query and I need to compare the value of field A in the current item with the value of field A in the previous item, in order to display things correctly. Doing this in a Python script seems overkill, since I only need to control the display of things. I have crancked upp a lot of info in the result of the query for optimization reasons so changing the query is out of the question. Any help is appreciated. newbie: why external database?
by frank sagel 06 Jul '01

06 Jul '01

ahoi, I want to develope a forum with zope. There are products wich store messages and replies in the ZODB. In case this forum will become crowded, this seems to me not the right way ( ? ). I've read that ZODB does a good job if 99% of the users only read. Is this right? Can somebody tell me at wich "size" (e.g. amount of users, hits, etc... ) an external db is needed? Anyway if i'd have to migrate to an external db, how is this functioning? thanks for replies frank

ZSQL Pluggable brains broke in later Zope, can't add instance attributes
by Brad Clements 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

I've been using a pluggable brain with ZSQL methods to inject an instance attribute, like this: class PackageEvent: """Package Event Pluggable Brain""" def __init__(self): """initialize""" self.__dict__['eday'] = self.eventday() # self.eday = self.eventday() # setattr(self,'eday',self.eventday()) <snip> The first method (using __dict__) used to work on 2.2, but now fails on 2.3.3 I've tried the commented out methods as well. I get an attributeError when any of the above three methods are encountered. I believe some new ExtensionClass magic is causing this to fail. Record.c is too complicated for me to figure out. Do I need a self.__of__() something to do this? I can't use an instance method because I need to use <dtml-if first-eday> in my DTML methods. <dtml-var first-eventday> fails of course because eventday is a bound method, not a string. Any suggestions? thanks Brad Clements, bkc(a)murkworks.com (315)268-1000 http://www.murkworks.com (315)268-9812 Fax netmeeting: ils://ils.murkworks.com AOL-IM: BKClements

Determining Local Roles
by Eric Vautour 05 Jul '01

05 Jul '01

Hello all, I have a stumper here. I am using the following code to determine the permissions of users from AccessControl import getSecurityManager user = getSecurityManager().getUser() if user.has_permission('Change DTML Documents', ob): This piece of code appears to detect appropriate permissions if the user is set up in an acl_users folder however, this piece of code does not appear to work at the "local role" level. That is to say that if I give "Jo" permissions to change the "index_html" document, the above code does not see "Jo" as having permissions to do so. Is there any way to detect the permissions at the local role level? Eric
