Re: [Zope] problems with adding monthRange.py as Python script object

Well, I give up. It's the strangest thing. Any Python script I try and add externally that has more than 1 line in it doesn't work (gives syntax error). I ran the install again and I notice that it gets an error while trying to compile the Python modules. The error flashes by so fast I am not sure what it is. The error isn't in the install.log. Where else would Zope install put install errors? ----- Original Message ----- From: Frank McGeough Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2001 8:40 PM To: Dieter Maurer Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] problems with adding monthRange.py as Python script object I'm still working on this. There aren't any wierd characters in the file. Something else is going on. I've got Zope 2.3.2 installed and CMF 1.1 beta. The monthRange.py module that I'm trying to import is the same one that works on my Windows 2K machine and downloaded from cmf.zope.org. The directory I installed this too on this Windows ME machine is c:\Program Files\..., I am beginning to wonder whether that is the problem (the space in the dir name) in combination with running on this sort-of o/s. It's very puzzling. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dieter Maurer Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2001 3:25 PM To: Frank McGeough Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] problems with adding monthRange.py as Python script object Frank McGeough writes: > I get the following traceback that looks like Zope's having trouble finding DateTime. > > File "", line 2 > > from DateTime import DateTime > > ^ > > SyntaxError: invalid syntax Zope does not have a problem to find "DateTime". It reports a SyntaxError not an ImportError. There may be something invisible after the "DateTime" that confuses the Python parser. Maybe, the indentation is wrong. You know, Python block structuring is based on indentation (I hate that but others are convinced, it is a major strength). One missing space or one to much, and you get a difficult to recognize syntax error. DieterGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

Timeouts from overseas?
by zope＠concision.com 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

I have an international customer who claims that their European offices have difficulty receiving pages (roughly 50% failure rate) from our Zope server here in the US while at the same time they have no trouble receiving pages from our apache server. Both servers run on the same physical machine, and the hostnames are served from the same DNS zone. It would seem the only variable is the http server software - zope vs. apache. Just to complete the picture, they say that their US offices have no difficulty receiving pages from any of our servers. Is there some timeout value that I might try adjusting? I know I can serve the Zope content through apache/PCGI. I'd rather not.

recent articles about Zope?
by Eric Balasbas 19 Jun '01

Does anyone have any links to recent reviews of Zope? It seems that all of the articles I found are from 1999 and earlier. Zope has changed a lot over the years, and it would be a shame if the only product reviews of Zope were from two years ago. calling zope
by jr＠i-bucks.com 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

I am new to zope. I am looking for an application server. I want to know if I can call zope objects and methods from a script run OUTSIDE of zope (say python, to make it easy). Is this possible? So far, all the API/call information that I have found either relates to calling system functions (APIs) from inside methods, or calling external methods. Nothing about calling the app server from an external program. I get the impression that I have to execute an http call, and clumsily parse the output. Is this true, or is there something that I have overlooked in the output? The types of calls that I need to make is to search for objects with certain properties, create new objects, and update old objects. I need to retrieve object properties, and execute methods. I need to have basic security enforced (userid identification or userid/password). The reason why is that it is contractually necessary to provide an api into the server. Thanks, jr John Riehl

Hi Zopists, I need to put a list attribute into URL and doesn't know the correct syntax. When I tried it, was represented as string in REQUEST. Here is my code: <dtml-let l="['foo', 'bla']"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(new_url+`l`)"> </dtml-let> where new_url is defined above something like this: 'https://any.url/method_name?ids=' Thank you for help, Petr -- Petr Knápek Network Development NEXTRA Czech Republic s.r.o. http://www.nextra.cz/ V Celnici 10 / CZ - 117 21 Praha 1 / Czech Republic Tel: +420/2/96 355 111 / Mobile: +420/604-202 611 E-Mail: petr.knapek(a)nextra.com Contact address: Hlinky 114 / CZ - 603 00 Brno / Czech Republic Tel: +420/5/43 554 150 / FAX: +420/5/43 554 214 see Disclaimer http://www.nextra.cz/disclaimer/

removing items from lists ?
by Junk 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

hello, i am making a dtml script that will choose 3 different objects and display them and i'm kindda stuck. i think the process would be : 1] make a list of objects (dtml-let ?) 2] choose a random item from the list (or maybe choose all three at one time ?) 3] remove this item from the list 4] same player shoots again... right now i'm able to make the list, to use whrandom.choice(xx) to get a random value, but i can't remove items from the list and once in a while i do get the same item twice (which i don't want happening). maybe i don't do it the right way ;-) $ven

problems with adding monthRange.py as Python script object
by Frank McGeough 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

I am trying to add the monthRange.py Python script into a Zope folder. I get the following traceback that looks like Zope's having trouble finding DateTime. DateTime is definitely there and compiled o.k. (pyc files are present) Any ideas? I am running Zope 2.3.2 and CMF 1.1beta on a Windows ME machine at home. What's with the empty string after the File in the message below? Is that part of the problem? Thanks for any hints.
