ZSyncer.0.3.1 patch
by Joseph Wayne Norton 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

Andy - I have made a patch to ZSyncer 0.3.1 that will constrain ZSyncer to operate "relative to" and "only at and below" the level in which the ZSyncer object has been installed. I also added https as a valid prefix in the _check_http method. This is useful to me because I can synchronize different staging areas such as production, test, and development across different zope servers and even within the same zope server. The behavior of the current version should be identical if the Zsyncer object is installed in the root folder. For example, I installed 2 ZSyncers at the following urls: http:/www.foo.com/vhosts/xyz.com/prd/zsyncer http:/www.foo.com/vhosts/xyz.com/tst/zsyncer and specified the first url as the destination for the tst zsyncer. Or similarly using different zope servers: http:/www.foo.com/vhosts/xyz.com/prd/zsyncer http:/tst.foo.com/vhosts/xyz.com/prd/zsyncer Although I haven't investigated yet, the ZSyncer could simply use "native" method calls instead of xmlrpc if the source and destination ZSyncer object reside on the same zope server. Please review and incorporate this patch if you feel that is is applicable to you and others. regards, - joe n diff -c --recursive ZSyncer/ZSyncer.py ZSyncer-new/ZSyncer.py *** ZSyncer/ZSyncer.py Sat Jun 2 19:24:39 2001 --- ZSyncer-new/ZSyncer.py Tue Jun 19 11:15:14 2001 *************** *** 15,20 **** --- 15,21 ---- # needed for diff from OFS.History import html_diff, replace from string import join, split, atoi, strip + from re import sub from DocumentTemplate.DT_Util import html_quote from DocumentTemplate.DT_Var import url_quote_plus from types import StringType *************** *** 154,160 **** def manage_srcXMLRPC(self, obj_path): """ Get a src from an object (if allowed) suitable for diffing """ ! try: obj = self.restrictedTraverse(obj_path) except KeyError: return 404 c = getSecurityManager().checkPermission --- 155,161 ---- def manage_srcXMLRPC(self, obj_path): """ Get a src from an object (if allowed) suitable for diffing """ ! try: obj = self._restrictedTraverse(obj_path) except KeyError: return 404 c = getSecurityManager().checkPermission *************** *** 169,175 **** if type(obj_path) == type('string'): obj_path = string.split(obj_path, '/') # object lets try finding the parent ! try: parent = self.restrictedTraverse(obj_path[:-1]) except KeyError: return 404 # lets check they are allowed to do this --- 170,176 ---- if type(obj_path) == type('string'): obj_path = string.split(obj_path, '/') # object lets try finding the parent ! try: parent = self._restrictedTraverse(obj_path[:-1]) except KeyError: return 404 # lets check they are allowed to do this *************** *** 208,219 **** ''' Gets a list of the objects ''' obs = {} # go find the folder, then iterate through the subject ! for ob in self.restrictedTraverse(string.split(folders, '/')).objectValues(): # we dont to sync ZSyncers, that way leads much confusion if ob.meta_type != 'ZSyncer': o = {} o['id'] = ob.getId() ! o['path'] = ob.getPhysicalPath() o['title'] = ob.title_or_id() o['meta_type'] = ob.meta_type o['icon'] = ob.icon --- 209,220 ---- ''' Gets a list of the objects ''' obs = {} # go find the folder, then iterate through the subject ! for ob in self._restrictedTraverse(string.split(folders, '/')).objectValues(): # we dont to sync ZSyncers, that way leads much confusion if ob.meta_type != 'ZSyncer': o = {} o['id'] = ob.getId() ! o['path'] = self._getPhysicalPath(ob) o['title'] = ob.title_or_id() o['meta_type'] = ob.meta_type o['icon'] = ob.icon *************** *** 297,303 **** def _check_http(self, v): # so people can get away with leaving http:// off :) ! if v[:7] != 'http://': v = 'http://%s' % v return v def _get_time(self): --- 298,304 ---- def _check_http(self, v): # so people can get away with leaving http:// off :) ! if v[:7] != 'http://' and v[:8] != 'https://': v = 'http://%s' % v return v def _get_time(self): *************** *** 336,349 **** def _exportXMLRPC(self, object=None, dest_url=None, add_in=1): """exports an object""" # go get the object ! obj = self.restrictedTraverse(object) data = StringIO() obj._p_jar.exportFile(obj._p_oid, data) # do xml-rpc serverconn = self._serverConn(self._check_http(dest_url)) ! try: result = serverconn.manage_addXMLRPC(self._encode(data.getvalue()), obj.getPhysicalPath(), add_in) except: return 500 # return result return result --- 337,362 ---- def _exportXMLRPC(self, object=None, dest_url=None, add_in=1): """exports an object""" # go get the object ! obj = self._restrictedTraverse(object) data = StringIO() obj._p_jar.exportFile(obj._p_oid, data) # do xml-rpc serverconn = self._serverConn(self._check_http(dest_url)) ! try: result = serverconn.manage_addXMLRPC(self._encode(data.getvalue()), self._getPhysicalPath(obj), add_in) except: return 500 # return result return result + + def _restrictedTraverse(self, path): + base = join(self.getParentNode().getPhysicalPath(), '/') + if type(path) == type('string'): + base = base + path + elif path != ['']: + base = base + join(path, '/') + return self.restrictedTraverse(split(base, '/')) + + def _getPhysicalPath(self, obj): + base = join(self.getParentNode().getPhysicalPath(), '/') + return split(sub('^' + base, '', join(obj.getPhysicalPath(), '/')), '/')

How to change the properties of a ZClass instance
by Jan Lentfer 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

Hi everyone, I am having a hard time changing the properties of an ZClass instance. This is what I have done so far: I created a producted called MTB_HQ. Within that product I created the ZClass "racedate". The ZClass has the a propertysheet called "date_properties". The sheet contains the properties "date_day","date_month","date_year","date_sort","title","discipline","location". All string type. 2nd I edited the "racedate_add" method as described in the "Searcheable Job Board"-How-To (unique timestamp ids, etc). Then I made a html form in: | |--mtb_hq | | admin The form calls the method "addracedate.dtml" in /mt_hq/admin/racedates. Here's the code: **************************** "addracedate.dtml" --------------------------- <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('date_sort', year_html+month_html+day_html)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('title', location_html+' '+day_html+'.'+month_html+'.'+year_html)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('date_day', day_html)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('date_month', month_html)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('date_year', year_html)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('location', location_html)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set ('discipline', discipline_html)"> <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['MTB_HQ']"> <dtml-call "racedate_add(_.None, _, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect ('../index.htm')"> ****************************** Ok, so now I have the instance with the new properties and I can display it and everything - fine! But what do I do now when I want to change the properties of an existing ZClass instance through a web form? I tried back and forth wit manage_changeProperties but I jsut can't get it to work. Believe me I searched through all the How-Tos and documentation available but couldn't find any hint that got me further. My idea is to create a web form that is filled with the properties of existing ZClass. The you can make changes and the form calls a method that does the changing of the properties. But how do I do that? My web form (very basic now, not formatted in any way) right now looks like this: *************** "editracedates_form.htm" --------------------------------------- <dtml-with racedates> <dtml-in "Catalog(id=obj_id)"> <form method="post" action="racedates/changeRaceDate.dtml"> <p> Day <input type="text" name="day_html" value ="<dtml-var date_day>"> Month <input type="text" name="month_html" value ="<dtml-var date_month>"> Year <input type="text" name="year_html" value = "<dtml-var date_year>"> </p> <p> <input type="text" name="location_html" value ="<dtml-var location>"> location        <input type="text" name="discipline_html" value ="discipline"> discipline </p> <p> <input type="submit" name="Button" value="Abschicken"> </p> </form> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> **************** How should the dtml-method "changeracedate.dtml" look like? Or could one of you guys point my nose at the right doc or how-to? I have really been playing around with this quite a while and just can't figure out how to use mange_changeProperties right! Many, many thanks in advance and sorry for this quite lenghty posting. Jan Lentfer

Zope 2.3.2 standard_error_message
by Vasco Pinheiro 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

Hello! I'm trying to personalize my standard_error_message with zope 2.3.2. In it, I have some HTML with some <dtml-var> to get the current layout of the site. The tricky question is that it all goes well, if the error is not the "404 - not found". The standard_error_message is displayed and all the <dtml-var> tags work. But if I try to call something that doesn't exist, zope returns the "404 - not found" error, and I get the default error message from zope, instead of the one I created in the standart_error_message. The reason I've discovered for this to happen was my <dtml-var> tags. Because if I replace them, with the entire HTML from those dtml-documents, all works fine. Why does it only happens with "404 - not found" error? Any clue? Thx all! Vasco

Building a list in a dtml-in loop
by Schmidt, Allen J. 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

I have a page that uses a dtml-in to process the results from a ZSQL method. The page lists out 30 items and the price of each item is a link to a detail page. What I would like to do is while inside the loop, create then append to a list that stores each of the record IDs for each item. Then when someone clicks the link to go to the detail page it 'takes' the list along. On the detail page would be info about the product and also include forward and back buttons to the next item in the list just created. I guess the question is can I create a list that I can pass to the next page to use to access subsequent records. Clear as mud? Thanks! Allen

[Paolo Comitini <pcm@mixadlive.com>] Fwd: [Zope] Postgres permissions with psycopyg
by Federico Di Gregorio 19 Jun '01

--------------------------------------------------------------- I´m using Zope 2.3.2, PostgreSQL 7.1.2 and psycopg 0.99.2. Opening a database connection works well. I used the connection string: dbname=web Unfortunately if I want to test the connection using select * from testtable ; I get Error Type: ProgrammingError Error Value: ERROR: mitarbeiter: Permission denied. select * from testtable ; Looking at /var/log/postgres.log I see the following entries: 2001-06-19 14:05:24 [22300] DEBUG: connection: host=[local] user=www-data database=web 2001-06-19 14:05:43 [22300] ERROR: testtable: Permission denied. where www-data is the user which runs apache and zope on a Debian system. I made sure in psql: web=# grant all on testtable to "web-data" ; CHANGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- if you gave to zope a connection string like: dbname=web user=www-data try to do: dbname=web user="www-data" if i remember correctly postgresql has problems with www-data without quotes around the name. this is clearly a psycopg (not zpsycopgda) problem, so try to debug it from python running interactively the follwing code: import psycopg o = psycopg.connect('dbname=web user="www-data"') # note quotes c = o.cursor() c.execute('select * from testtable') hope this helps, federico -- Federico Di Gregorio MIXAD LIVE Chief of Research & Technology fog(a)mixadlive.com Debian GNU/Linux Developer & Italian Press Contact fog(a)debian.org The devil speaks truth much oftener than he's deemed. SV: [Zope] PDF documents in CMF (1.0)
by Rubinstein Fredrik 19 Jun '01

Hi there, I'm currently experinesing trobles with pdf files. A sound PDF file uploaded to the server using LocalFS is unopenable both through Zope and directly trying to open the PDF file on the server where it is stored, With kind regards Fred -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: Gilles Lenfant [mailto:glenfant@bigfoot.com] Skickat: den 19 juni 2001 12:51 Till: zope(a)zope.org Ämne: [Zope] PDF documents in CMF (1.0) Hi, I created a new document in my CMF personal folder, and uploaded a PDF file. The MIME type switches to application/pdf. Till now, all's OK. But when I try to open that document later from the CMF (Whatever browser), I'm asked 3 (!) times for a local destination file and the PDF does not open in the Acrobat Reader plugin of the browser as usual (when creating an usual Zope "file" object then upload a PDF file, all's fine). Is it a CMF bug or did I miss something ? --Gilles _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Newbie Q: how to use a "standard" CGI from Zope?
by Arian de Wit 19 Jun '01

19 Jun '01

Hi All, I have some CGIs written in C and Fortran, compiled to EXEs and currently running on Apache (without Zope), and tested on IIS (without Zope) as well. How can I integrate these into Zope ZServer setup with a minimum of rewriting? I have access to the source code, but would like to change it as little as possible (re-invention of wheels, and all that). I had a look at the Zope docs on External Methods and the Python docs on extending Python using C, but this didn't seem to click -- am I on the right track?
