defining object types

Does Zope support strict data/object typing? If so, what's the syntax to instantiate an object of a given type? The only reference I could find that's close is , but what if you don't have data to place in the object yet and still want it to be a certain type? Is this still being actively maintained? It doesn't look like it's been updated in a while, and I get an error when I try to import the 0.5pre version. If that product is dead, are there any alternatives that are still being worked on? -- Tim Moore

Virtual Host Monster, mod_rewrite not quite working

Hey everyone, I'm trying to use a Virtual Host Monster along with Apache's mod_rewrite to publish some static content along with mostly Zope content. I've followed the How-To at http://www.zope.org/Members/mwr/VHosts_With_Zope_Default but I can't get it to work quite right. Here's the relevant section from httpd.conf: <VirtualHost 206.131.108.110> ServerName mendota.isd197.org DocumentRoot /var/www/district <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteLog "/var/log/apache/rewrite_log" RewriteLogLevel 1 RewriteRule ^/webalizer/ - [L] RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.mendota.isd197.org/mendota/V… [P] </IfModule> </VirtualHost> As you can see, I've got some Webalizer statistics I'd like to include along with the rest of the Zope stuff. The problem is that visiting http://www.isd197.org/mendota/ works perfectly, but http://mendota.isd197.org/ doesn't. In the second case, the main graphic on the page isn't visible. How to make a script return rendered dtml

I have a ZClass (testclass) which subclasses DTMLDocument, and within this zclass, I have a script (python) called index_html. Obviously, this script is called each time an instance of testclass is requested. Based on the presence of a query string, I want to either return the document_src (although with a few modifications), or simply return the rendered instance... by this, I mean have all the dtml tags that are in the instance evaluated. So, my question is, how do I make Zope evaluate the dtml tags? Here is what I have so far in my script: ------------ if context.REQUEST.QUERY_STRING == 'editor': print context.raw else: print context return printed ------------ The 'else' statement simply gives me things like, <dtml-var standard_html_header> I also tried 'else: render(context)', which was simply a guess on my part, but I get a Zope error as follows: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: validate Can anyone enlighten me? NewB Qs: Classification advice please + many2many relationships

Hi Coming from the Java / RDMS world, I'm not sure how best to lay out my new project in Zope. I have Events, and Businesses, both of which have a hierarchy of types (e.g. Events/Entertainment/Films and Business/Entertainment/Theatre, etc.) The events have venues, which are instances of Businesses. My question is: how should I classify my objects, and once I've done that, how do I maintain many-to-many relationships, e.g. all the Events happening at Business X? This works: context.dtmldocument.manage_changeProperties(title='New Title') This does NOT work: context.dtmldocument.manage_changeProperties(data='<dtml-var hello>') Please help. Peter

easier way to get this() from DTML Document?

In order to get the real context when I call a Python Script from a DTML Document, I've found that I need to do something besides just looking at the context (because it's the container of the DTML Document). For now, I'm explicitly passing this() <dtml-var "standard_html_footer(this=this())"> and then I test if it's set in my Python Script. If it is, I use it. Otherwise I use the context. Is there a way around this? I don't want users to have to put in the "this=this()" junk. Can I somehow pry open the '_' TemplateDict enough to get the same info? Thank you. --kyler
