StructuredText to PDF
by Nils Kassube 14 Jun '01

Guten Morgen. Before I spend a lot of time to reinvent the wheel, well, has anyone here build a StructuredText to PDF converter with ReportLab? I'd like to provide a string with a STNG document and get a sequence of flowable objects (Paragraphs, etc) back. Anyone? Please... :-) Cheers, Nils

Re: [Zope] binary data
by Geir Bækholt 14 Jun '01

Klaus, use manage_addFile just like you would in a normal folder.. ObjectManager is the superclass that Folder uses to get it's 'folderish' behaviour, so if your zclass inherits from ObjectManager as well, it will behave like a folder when it comes to containing objects.. You can keep files, images DTMLdocuments, other zclasses , - whatever you like in it..... :-) >> >> - when doing this , it will act as a regular folder in most respects >> (as far as containing stuff anyway), >> allowing you to have as much binary data in as many files as you >> want.... >> >> :-) > > that sounds great! > but how do i actually attach the files? addProperty? > i need one file for the constructor, right? i mean, the var "file" has > to be defined when i add an instance. > > thanks! > Klaus -- Geir Bækholt web-developer/zopatista geirh(a)funcom.com funcom oslo | webdev-team

Best way to scale images from Zope besides PIL?
by Chris Beaumont 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

I'm building a web application that needs to create uniformly sized thumbnails of uploaded pictures, and I have been trying now for a very long time to get PIL working on my system without success with no luck whatsoever. Is there a better (or should I say working) method of having this image manipulation functionality in Zope? Unless you are willing to spell it out *explicitly* *please* don't give me more advice on how to get PIL working, I give up. I've tried at least ten different helpful suggestions (and tried reinstalling it from scratch three times)..none of them have worked.. I'm currently using the 2.24 binary release of Zope running on Debian Linux (potato) Basically what I need to do is script an external application to resize images using Zope as a control mechanism. The images don't have to reside within Zope (in fact, it is better if they don't..) Thanks.. -Chris

equivalent of "missing=" in Python Script?
by Harris Peter 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

Hi I'm trying to do something in what is maybe a stupid way, but it sort of works. I am localising my application for different languages by using: <dtml-var some-variable missing="Default english text"> If there's a folder on the acquisition path containing "some-variable" as a DTML document or a property, you get the translation, otherwise you get the English text. Like I said, maybe a stupid way but it works. The alternative is support N different translated versions of the whole application, which is a lot more work, even though N == 2 at the moment. The problem I am having is all the pages that have <dtml-var title_or_id> in the standard_html_header always show the (English) document title of course. I want to write a Python script local_title to check if the current document has a property (say, title_property). I want to use the value as the name of a variable that will contain the localised title (if it's not missing). If there is no title_property, or it doesn't contain the name of a variable that exists, the script should just return title_or_id as before. So, 3 questions really: 1) Does anyone have a better idea for how to do this? 2) How do you get the value of a property on the current document? 3) How do you check if a variable is missing? ZClass upgrade problems
by Dieter Maurer 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

Finally, we want to upgrade from Zope 2.1.6 to 2.3.2 (Python 2.1). We now experience what many have recognized already: ZClasses are a bit volatile wrt. Zope upgrades I created a distribution under 2.1.6 and unpacked it in the new Zope 2.3 CVS (taken shortly before the 2.4 development hit the CVS). After a restart, I see the following message in the Zope log file: > ------ > 2001-06-14T05:46:02 ERROR(200) ZODB Couldn't load state for '\x00\x00\x00\x00\x0 > 0\x00f\xc2' > Traceback (innermost last): > File /home/dieter/tmp/ZopeCVS/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 533, in sets > tate > ImportError: No module named *EDd7FLD+AY2OWsUAz/H7bw== > > > ------ > 2001-06-14T05:46:14 INFO(0) Zope A broken ZClass dependency was found in the glo > bal class registry. This is probably due to a product being uninstalled. The reg > istry has successfully been rebuilt. The imported ZClass is there, but when I try to view the "Basic" tab or try to do anything with a corresponding Z Instance, I get a "TypeError" exception: "String or Unicode string expected, None found". I have analysed this problem: During commit, a "DispatcherClass_ZPropertySheetsClass" instance should be pickled ("DispatcherClass" is my ZClass). This fails, because the class' "__module__" is "None". Two questions: 1. what is this strange module, that could not be loaded? In fact, I would be very astonished, if it could. 2. what should "DispatcherClass_ZPropertySheetsClass.__module__" be. Dieter

http auth from zope -> apache
by Dave Ahn 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

Hi, I am using Zope and with Apache and modrewrite: RewriteRule ^/stuff/ - [L] RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://localhost:8080/$1 [P] Zope is running on 8080. Accessing any zope content requires authentication, but accesing /stuff/ does not. Is there a way to set up apache to deny access to /stuff/ if a user has not already authenticated with zope? Thanks, Dave -- Dave Ahn | ahn(a)vec.wfubmc.edu | Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center
