easier way to get this() from DTML Document?
by Kyler B. Laird 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

In order to get the real context when I call a Python Script from a DTML Document, I've found that I need to do something besides just looking at the context (because it's the container of the DTML Document). For now, I'm explicitly passing this() <dtml-var "standard_html_footer(this=this())"> and then I test if it's set in my Python Script. If it is, I use it. Otherwise I use the context. Is there a way around this? I don't want users to have to put in the "this=this()" junk. Can I somehow pry open the '_' TemplateDict enough to get the same info? Thank you. --kyler

Question about __ac_permissions__ and more generally about the do cumentation
by Bocquillon Philippe 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

Hello In the following piece of Python code for Zope: __ac_permissions__=( ('View management screens', ('manage_main',)), ('View', ('', 'index_html', 'update', 'show_source','view_image','picture',)), ('Change', ('manage_edit',), ('Manager',)), ) Could you tell me: 1) What does the first "empty" method ('') associated to the View permission mean? 2) Is the Manager method associated with the Change permission the class constructor for a Manager class which would represent the Manager role? 3) Why is Manager method needed in addition to the manage_edit one? 4) Why are there 2 tuples associated with the Change permission instead of having one tuple containing both the manage_edit and Manager methods? More generally, where can I find a REFERENCE doc (instead of a collection of how-tos or other items more or less related to the topic which is interesting you) in which such information (I mean developping Python code for Zope products) is __clearly__ defined? Thanks a lot in advance, Philippe

inserting file into external db
by Corbett Waddingham 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

First, hello to the list. Second, I've recently started using Zope at work and find that it's just different enough from Perl, C, and Java to be a little confusing, so hopefully this won't be a patently obvious question. How do you convince Zope to insert a MIME file into an external db properly? Here are some code snippets of what I've tried. First, the DTML to upload the file. <form action="do_add_doc" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="0"> <p>File<input type="file" name="doc_file" size="25" value="" > <input class="form-element" type="submit" name="submit" value=" Add " > Next, the DTML to process the file: <dtml-call sqlInsertFile> And the SQL to insert the file into the MySQL db (takes argument doc_file, DOC_ID is set to 'auto increment'): insert into TABLE (DOC_ID, DOC_FILE) values ('0', <dtml-sqlvar doc_file type=nb>) The file is showing up, but it's being munged at some point. Hopefully this is as simple as uuencoding the file or somesuch, but I can't figure out to get Zope to do that. I should point out that it is a requirement of this application that the documents be accessible via ODBC, hence the MySQL db (so simply storing them in Zope's db isn't an option, unfortunately). Any pointers would be much appreciated. Cory __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Spot the hottest trends in music, movies, and more. http://buzz.yahoo.com/

RE: DTML<->Python confusion (RE: [Zope] How to make a script return rendered dtml)
by Bjorn Stabell 14 Jun '01

Wow, thanks Evan. I should've asked these questions a long time ago... From: Evan Simpson [mailto:evan@digicool.com] > From: "Bjorn Stabell" <bjorn(a)exoweb.net> > > How do you do dtml-with and dtml-let in a Python script? (I.e. > > put something on the namespace) > > You can't. Scripts can use the DTML namespace in the same > way that Python expressions in DTML can, but that's it. > > On the other hand, you can create (and pass along) all the > local variables you want. Is it possible to append an object to the namespace? Isn't that what dtml-with does? > > How do you give positional (not keyword) arguments to a DTML > > method; is there any difference? > > Keyword arguments are put on top of the namespace. You can't > use positional arguments, except the standard (None, _) idiom. > DTML was never meant to pass arguments around, that's what > the namespace is for, for what that's worth :-P But the other way around, calling Python functions from DTML (via <dtml-var func>) the positional arguments are gotten from the namespace, right? [... good andswer to __call__ et al deleted :) ... ] > > When does RESPONSE need to be passed; it can always be gotten > > from the REQUEST, right? > > Right. So why do so many DTML methods / documents have REQUEST as an explicit argument? It looks like a convention that has to mean something. > > Are namespace, _, REQUEST, and context just different names for > > the same thing? > > Not quite. The namespace, accessible in DTML as "_", is a > pile of objects. > The REQUEST is a particular object created by ZPublisher to > hold information > about the request, such as form variables and URL > information. All this means that when you ask the namespace for > the name "foo", > it will end up looking for it in the context, in the > context's containers > all the way to the root, and the REQUEST. I am a little bit confused about the fact that the acquisition path is related to how the document was called, not just to the containment relationships it is involved in. Or is it? myobj.aq_parent isn't necessarily the object that contains myobj? Is the namespace stack basically the same as the acquisition path? Bye, -- Bjorn

FAQ: How to add a ZClass
by Ulrich Wisser 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

Hello, I know this is a FAQ but I didn't manage to add a ZClass to a folder in DTML although I followed all steps in the How-To. My new ZClass needs only to have an 'id', so I just go with the default installation. Here is what I do: Create a product, name 'tip' In the product create a ZClass name 'kingkong' In folder /admin I have DTML Method 'addTip' which does <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['tip']"> <dtml-call "kingkong_add(_, REQUEST, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> When I call addTip?id=123 I get an NameError. binary data
by Klaus Herrmann 14 Jun '01

14 Jun '01

Hi *! As i didn't get any replies to my second question: I looks like there is no way of building a ZClass with more then on 1 field for binary data, i.e. 2 or more files in one ZClass? That sucks. Maybe if i do it in Python? But i guess there'd be no way to have a dynamically growing number of binary data fields :-( any ideas? (what i want to do is the following: in lotus notes, you can just drag as many files as you like on a document, and these files are stored as attachments with the document. i need to be able to do the same in zope) regards, Klaus -- Klaus Herrmann <klaus.herrmann(a)goelz.com> Goelz & Schwarz GmbH, Munich www.goelz.com phone:+49 - (0)89 - 544 67 0 22 fax: +49 - (0)89 - 544 67 0 10
