It was terrible with the default 7 threads and got better when I increased the number of threads. But it never was what I was hoping it would be so I went to mod_python (for streaming only) and it was much faster. Ragnar

ZShell
by Andy McKay 13 Jun '01

13 Jun '01

Hi, I finally got around to playing with ZShell (after all those emails announcing it on the list) and its cool, thanks Jerome. But I have to admit type command lines into a browser window doesn't thrill me. Typing command lines into standard cli however, does. So I started thinking that I could use the simple Cmd module in python, make calls using xmlrpc and... ZShellCLI, a command line interface was born... my quick proof of concept works like this: E:\Zope23>bin\python ZShellCLI.py ZShellCLI: A CLI to ZShell > open Connected to http://127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1> pack 7 Done "pack 7" Open a server, type your command, its executed through ZShell by xml-rpc and so on. The coolest part about this could be access to local tools "vim standard_html_header" (one day) for example... Anyway questions (mostly to Jerome): - Is this useful to anyone else? - Any plans to make it a product, then I could call the methods directly? Plus more support like changing directories.. - I cheated, I cant show return results, because everything comes back in html. (As a proof it works I open the results in a browser :) If it was a product, or there was a html / text option that would be great. I could parse everything through a html stripper, but that seems rather daft. Any chance we could get around this...? Thanks Jerome, good product and thanks for helping out the community. Cheers -- Andy McKay

I've got a 2-hour powerpoint presentation entitled "Squishdot, Zope and Python" from a talk I gave last February which kind of covers a lot (so most of it is a bird's-eye view of the whole damn kaboodle) -- just email me privately if you're interested... Its about 1.5 MB unzipped (35 slides) -- most of it screenshots of squishdot sites (I'm biased ;^)) -- you can take out the stuff you don't want... --- Andy McKay andym(a)ActiveState.com wrote: > > I would recommend just showing a lot of Zope and an application. That impressed people alot more than the waffle I > did. > The problem I had with my presentation (and in trying to cover Zope in general terms) was that a lot of it tends to go in one ear and out the other -- like so much of the marketingese that companies use to tout their products ("...ideal for dynamic, interactive websites; manage from anywhere using only your browser...blah...blah...") I'm almost convinced (though I haven't tried it) that a demo (and enough time afterwards for questions) might make a more powerful and lasting impression. Cheers! Starting zope automatically on Linux Mandrake 8.0
by Karl Munroe 13 Jun '01

13 Jun '01

I have one for all you linux gurus, I recently installed Zope 2.3.2 after much headache..finally it work that to help from Chad Crawley. I have a problem with linuxconf picking up the zope script from /etc/rc.d/init/d. The file exists and it has execute permissions. I can : ./zope {start|restart|etc..} form the command line. However, when I try to restart the zope server from linuxconf it does not report it as a service and zope does not start automatically when the server is rebooted. Is there a special script editor to use?? Or can I just use pico to edit the text in the script? Do i need to include the infomation to start zope automatically anywhere else?? Does anyone have a pdf on how to write the scripts??? Thanx in advance, Karl Munroe P.S. The How-to Start zope on linus Redhat did not work for me on Linux Mandrake

Working on Zope presentation
by Timothy Wilson 13 Jun '01

Hi everyone, I'm going to be doing a presentation on Zope at the July meeting of the Twin Cities Linux Users Group. I'm looking for suggestions from others who may have done a similar presentation regarding what topics I should cover. I'll be looking at some of my own projects as case studies, but what else would people recommend covering? -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.org | http://www.zope.org W.
