- Zope - Zope lists

Hmmm, well I haven't seen it in documentation, but the documentation may exist. To tell the truth, I just learned that last week when C. Duncan came up to teach Zope/Python training at my company. There a story behind why it is named that. It was once a part of one project that merged with another project. These to projects formed Zope, but for some reason the variable names (well, not all of them at least) didn't get changed to something more intuitive. Just to let the list know (and people that have run into similar problems): After a long fight to get MySQL and Zope to talk to one another we got it going!!! This little bit of information: >Date: Thu, 7 Jun 2001 20:14:04 -0400 (EDT) >From: Andy Dustman <andy(a)dustman.net> > >ZMySQLDA-1.1.3 is not compatible with MySQL-python-0.3.5. Instead, try >ZMySQLDA-2.0.7 with MySQL-python-0.9.0. >http://sourceforge.net/projects/mysql-python along with installing Distutils (and other various requirements mentioned in the documentation) on a non Zope Python 1.5.2 Version and copying the needed folders and files mentioned in the error messages from standard python install to Zope python install did the trick (as well as various nitty gritty configuration settings because of our "non standard" system and system setup). I am sorry it is not more detailed, but we were about to give up and as a last resort started trying some crazy things (without documenting it): and like magic... it started to work (and has been running ever since). Erratic zope error
by Sherman Lambert (State Public Defenders Office) 12 Jun '01

12 Jun '01

Hey Gang, I'm running our intranet using Zope. This intranet serves offices across the state of Colorado (USA). I'm having users get zope errors "resource not found" in some locations. At the home office where I work I cannot duplicate this. The error usually occurs on pages the do a ZSQL queries to a Postgres database. These table are very small (under 50 records). Does anybody have any idea why I'm getting SERVER SIDE errors at distributed locations?? Thanks, Sherman

The problem lies not in zope, it's the browser (I use IE 5.00.dontaskme). First it goes to http://www.spiderplant.net/dan/redirect.php: ==> GET http://www.spiderplant.net/dan/redirect.php HTTP/1.0 ==> Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, */* ==> Accept-Language: de ==> Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate ==> User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT; QXW03336) ==> Host: www.spiderplant.net ==> Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive ==> [0.070 - Server connected] <== HTTP/1.1 302 Found <== Server: Apache/1.3.12 (Unix) PHP/4.0.4 mod_perl/1.24 mod_ssl/2.6.4 OpenSSL/0.9.5a <== X-Powered-By: PHP/4.0.4 <== Content-Type: text/html <== Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 20:36:40 GMT <== Location: http://www.spiderplant.net:8080/anticlimax/index_html <== Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive <== <== owser bug <== [0.210000 - Closed by Client] (Does anybody now what "owser bug" above should mean? Is this a sign?) You see it gets the redirect (302) and this happens: ==> GET http://www.spiderplant.net:8080/anticlimax/index_html HTTP/1.0 ==> Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, */* ==> Accept-Language: de ==> Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate ==> User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT; QXW03336) ==> Host: www.spiderplant.net ==> Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive ==> [0.040 - Server connected] <== HTTP/1.0 200 OK <== Server: Zope/Zope 2.3.2 (binary release, python 1.5.2, linux2-x86) ZServer/1.1b1 <== Content-Type: text/html <== Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 20:36:40 GMT <== Content-Length: 1261 <== Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive <== <== <html> <== <head> <==  <== <title>Anticlimax</title> <== <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.spiderplant.net/anticlimax/stylesheet"> <== <== <script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.spiderplant.net/anticlimax/main/JavaScript/NewWindow.js"></script> <== [snip] ==> GET http://www.spiderplant.net/anticlimax/main/JavaScript/NewWindow.js HTTP/1.0 ==> Accept: */* ==> Referer: http://www.spiderplant.net:8080/anticlimax/index_html ==> Accept-Language: de ==> Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate ==> User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT; QXW03336) ==> Host: www.spiderplant.net ==> Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive ==> <== </body></html>HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found <== Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 20:34:29 GMT <== Server: Apache/1.3.12 (Unix) PHP/4.0.4 mod_perl/1.24 mod_ssl/2.6.4 OpenSSL/0.9.5a <== Connection: close <== Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 <== <== <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <== <HTML><HEAD> <== <TITLE>404 Not Found</TITLE> <== </HEAD><BODY> <== <H1>Not Found</H1> <== The requested URL /anticlimax/main/JavaScript/NewWindow.js was not found on this server.<P> <== <HR> <== <ADDRESS>Apache/1.3.12 Server at www.spiderplant.net Port 80</ADDRESS> <== </BODY></HTML> If you look at the Host: header, you see www.spiderplanet.net. If I go directly to that URI, I get ==> GET http://www.spiderplant.net:8080/anticlimax/index_html HTTP/1.0 ==> Accept: */* ==> Accept-Language: de ==> Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate ==> User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT; QXW03336) ==> Host: www.spiderplant.net:8080 ==> Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive ==> [0.140 - Server connected] <== HTTP/1.0 200 OK <== Server: Zope/Zope 2.3.2 (binary release, python 1.5.2, linux2-x86) ZServer/1.1b1 <== Content-Type: text/html <== Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 20:38:18 GMT <== Content-Length: 1286 <== Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive [snip] Now the Host: header contains the correct portnumber. As I see it, zope does the right thing... Perhaps you should use proxying instead of a redirect. cheers, oliver

A newbie question - ZClasses, contents, and so on...
by Carlson, Christopher W. 12 Jun '01

12 Jun '01

Hi, everybody. I'm trying to understand just how ZClasses work, and have decided to create a simple message board system with my ever-so-slowly growing knowledge. My model is this: A forum may contain multiple topics, each of which has a name. A topic, in turn, may contain several messages (each of which has an author and some content). (Yes, I know that ZDiscussions does this, but perusing the source hasn't helped me much.) After flailing at the problem for a while, I've tried two different approaches. 1) Each of the classes (Forum, Topic, and Message) are created in the 'CForums' product I've made. Forum and Topic both use ObjectManager as a base class, so they can contain other items (Topics and Messages, respectively). This works well as long as I create Topics and Messages manually, through the Zope admin screen, but I was unable to discover how to automate the process so a normal web user could do it. I simply couldn't figure out how to get to the Topic methods from within a Forum object, and so on. 2) Topic is a ZClass in the methods area of Forum, and Message is a ZClass inside of Topic. This works well enough, except that I can't specify Topic as a sub-object of Forum, and so on. Consequently (at least, I *think* it's a consequence of this), I can't use things like objectValues or objectIds to get to the 'contents' of a Forum, even though there are definitely messages tucked away inside. How should I be approaching this problem? I don't really need hand-holding, but a healthy shove in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can offer. --- Chris

Odd Redirect Behaviour
by Daniel Fairs 12 Jun '01

12 Jun '01

Hi, I'm running Zope on the same machine as Apache+PHP. I'm not trying to do anything clever - all I want to do is to redirect requests to http://www.spiderplant.net/dan/redirect.php (that was index.html but I've renamed it just for the mo) to http://www.spiderplant.net:8080/anticlimax/. To do this, I'm using the following code in redirect.php: <?php header("Location: http://www.spiderplant.net:8080/anticlimax/index_html") ; ?> Now, when I visit www.spiderplant.net/dan/redirect.php, the browser correctly redirects. However, none of the URLs generated in the index_html method have the port number in them; for example, this occurs: <img src="http://www.spiderplant.net/anticlimax/titleImage" alt="Anticlimax Front Page Image" height="80" width="600" border="0" /> Notice the 8080 is missing from the hostname. Why is this occurring? What's so special about doing a redirect *to* Zope that breaks it? Feel free to visit the URLs above and see what I mean. Yours confusedly, Dan PS: I'm currently using a single frame to do the 'redirection' but Netscape sometimes chokes on it... _________________________________________________________________ Daniel Fairs | daniel.fairs(a)spiderplant.net | www.spiderplant.net

Thanks / will it be easier in the future?
by Horst Wald 12 Jun '01

Hi! First of all let me say Thanks! to all who helped me with Zope & MySQL. I guess the problem is that we (a friend and I) have installed and unistalled and installed and unistalled so many versions of Zope, MySQL and the various adapters and interfaces that by now we are getting problems nobody else gets. So we redo from scratch by formatting the disk and installing Linux again. Unfortunately it will have to be Suse 7.1. which might lead us into trouble again. What about the following "workaround": - use the gadfly database first - wait until there are versions of Suse Linux and Zope that can be connected to MySQL from start or have a RPM-installable adapter and interface on the CD? Or there is a Zope-MySQL-connection product available for mere mortals such as me? Will I live to see it? - then replace every Gadfly-database-connection-object with a MySQL-database-connection-object and be done with it Horst _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Which verson of python?
by Karl Munroe 12 Jun '01

We are now back to using "Zope-2.3.2-linux2-x86.tgz" from zope.org. Which version of python will the "./install " use 1.5.2 or 2.0? Which version of python should we use and how (how do we get it install with the right version of python). We are using Linux-Mandrake 8.0 which comes with Python 2.0. Thanks. Karl. -----Original Message----- From: Chad Crawley [mailto:chad@sidhe.yi.org] Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2001 11:00 AM To: Karl Munroe Subject: Re: [Zope] Help with the rpm I'm also running Linux-Mandrake 8.0, and I've had better luck with a source install. The RPM comes with a built-in version of Python 1.5.2, so Zope ignores the standard Python 2.0 install unless you build it yourself. If you are interested, I put a copy of my current startup script at http://sidhe.yi.org/chad/misc/zope . To use it, edit the INSTANCE_HOME variable to use the correct path on your system and copy the file to /etc/rc.d/init.d/zope . -- Chad Crawley On Sat, Jun 09, 2001 at 09:58:09AM -0800, Karl Munroe wrote: > Hi All, > > I recently downloaded the zope 2.3.2 rpm (Zope-2.3.2-1.i386.rpm) from > http://starship.python.net/crew/jrush/Zope/Zope232.html > > tried the install, but it did not work for me on Linux Mandrake 8.0. LocalFS Copy&Paste Problem
by Jlio Dinis Silva 12 Jun '01

Hi, Suppose I have the following paths: /folder1/images/image1.gif /folder2/ where "images" in folder1 is a LocalFS Instance. The following code worked when I had this images stored in Data.fs after I change "images" to be a LocalFs instance the code started to give a CopyError: <dtml-with "REQUEST.resolve_url(SERVER_URL+'/folder1/images/image1.gif')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('imgcookie',manage_copyObjects(['image1.gif']))"> </dtml-with> <dtml-with "folder2"> <dtml-call "manage_pasteObjects(imgcookie)"> </dtml-with> I know LocalFs supports copy+paste in is folder/subfolders, but what about from a localfs instance to a zope normal folder? Any help? Thanx, Julio Dinis Silva _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
