Hello Zopesters: I am collecting resources for the ZPug.org site and I would like to journal the typical install on a common box and I would like some help with obvious tips, tricks, resources, etc, that will help someone install Zope on a box. Okay, I have a 300MHz K6-2 AMD box with 128M and 18G SCSI and I currently have it set up with a minorly customised Red Hat 6.2 box running apache and serving static and php pages with a mysql back end. I would like the step required to replace my /home/httpd/html stuff so that Apache resolves <http://www.zdev.org> to Zope 2.3.2 instead of PHP or static. So, lets start from scratch. Installing Zope. How to pre-prepare. How to ready, what to check for, and how to proceed as smartly as possible. This site will host a Zope Development Environment as well as MySQL and Mailman services. Okay. After install, how to I change the httpd.conf files so that I can run Zope through CGI -- but I would also like people who are checking my box to recognise that I use Linux, Apache, Python, and Zope! So that I can be part of the War against Netcraft's "where in the Web is Zope" ploy! Okay, so How should I go about it? When I install should I alias Products or mv them to /Products? Where should I install Zope? How do I install multiple instances? What should I and what shouldn't I do? What mistakes really mess up a person's day? What online resources would you not be able to live without, both pushed to my INBOX or visited or checked? Cheers! Chris PS: I would also like to be able to collect this info for sharing on <http://www.zpug.org> so please indicate whether this is or isn't okay -- can I quote you and use your name and give you credit? -- chris abraham, managing director <cja(a)beehive.de> <http://www.beehive.de> beehive North America, washington, dc, +1 202 548 0410 wk +1 202 478 0276

Is 2.3.3 coming?
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 05 Jun '01

05 Jun '01

Maybe I took a left turn at Albuquerque, but didn't I see betas for 2.3.3 out there? Now all I see in development is 2.4 alphas. Is there going to be a 2.3.3 sometime, or should we just apply the hotfix to 2.3.2 and wait for 2.4? That will teach me to go off to a conference for a while... Cheers, Ron

RE: [Zope] Using the Namespace binding

Did you try context.varname? Troy -----Original Message----- From: Lee Shakespeare [mailto:lee@webfoundry.co.uk] Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 9:08 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Using the Namespace binding Hi Folks. Can some explain to me how I access DTML vars from a called python script? From what I've gleamed from the Zope book, I can set the Namespace binding for the script to expose the DTML namespace, but I'm having problems accessing it. I've tried _.varname, which gave me an attribute error and _varname is an illegal variable name. The variable is accessible from the calling DTML method via dtml-var Cheers. In search of a subtler logo/attribution.
by Ellis, Neil (FNB) 05 Jun '01

05 Jun '01

http://www.zope.org/Members/Ioan/QEportal The 'made with zope' icon used by QEportal seems a nicer logo to use on websites. Where did that originate and can we use it? The current Zope attribution button seems a little over the top for most websites. I have no qualms given credit where credit is due but the button is very large and would not fit in with many sites. Many regards Neil Ellis

WEBDav Problem With ZClasses
by Eric Roby 05 Jun '01

05 Jun '01

I have two ZClasses, one with base class of CatalogAwareBase and ZDTMLDocument, the other with base class of _ZClass_for_Renderable and CatalogAwareBase. ZInstances are created as expected, TTW. However, when I try to manage these ZInstances via a WEBDav client, the objects are not visible. My first thought was that this was a permission/roles mix-up. When I looked at the 'Define Permissions' tab for the ZClass, I was only given permission to add these objects. There was no way to add new permissions to either change, edit or delete for the class. I noticed that other classes (that I have successfully managed via WEBDav) have 'change' permissions. My question is ... is this the probable cause and if so how do I add a 'change' permission for the class. Or ... is this a side effect of the class being based on CatalogAware? I am quite stumped here so any advice would be greatly appreciated... Thanks EricGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

RE: [Zope] Flow-Charts
by Antonio De Marinis 05 Jun '01

Try the Zope-product ZGDChart http://www.zope.org/Members/teyc/ZGDChart I hope it will help! /Antonio -----Original Message----- From: Tom Deprez [mailto:tom.deprez@uz.kuleuven.ac.be] Sent: 5. juni 2001 13:53 To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Flow-Charts Hi, Somebody already created Flow-Charts (not graphical) or something in Zope? I want to create a certain log-book, but the solutions can be created/shown in flow-chart style. ie. 'First try out the network, if this fails go to...' every state is a new Zope object in the hierarchy. (This instead of just plain text) Next, not for now, but maybe in the future, are there python libraries which can graphically show a flowchart? Thanks; Tom. _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

ZCVS Folder won't display in root level
by shawn grant 05 Jun '01

05 Jun '01

ZCVS Folder works fine when it is contained in a folder beneath the root level, but won't display when it is directly in the root folder. I am able to create the folder but not access it. No errors, the request just doesn't return when I click on the link.

profiling my python product
by richard hitier 05 Jun '01

05 Jun '01

Hi, I'm looking for profiling with the python profiler my product called by the zope server. None of the tricks used worked: 1- inserting profile.run('method()', 'profile.log') in the main script, doesn't even create the profile.log file. 2- ZPublisher.Zope('my_product/my_method') (to be called in a script with profile.py ) crashes while calling http://localhost:9376/my_product/my_method via the browser works; there's the traceback message that I don't understand 3- /usr/lib/zope/utilities/load_site.py my_url doesn't crash, but I don't get any output. What should it do ? I don't know. 4- python ZPublisher/Test.py my_module seems to contain some profiling methods, but also crashes: Traceback (innermost last): File "Test.py", line 448, in ? if __name__ == "__main__": main() File "Test.py", line 212, in main s=silent) File "Test.py", line 445, in publish publish_module(file, environ=env, stdout=stdout, extra=extra) File "Test.py", line 261, in publish_module response = publish(request, module_name, after_list, debug=debug) File "/usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py", line 120, in publish (bobo_before, bobo_after, object, realm, debug_mode, err_hook, File "/usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py", line 262, in get_module_info module=__import__(module_name, globals(), globals(), ('__doc__',)) ImportError: (<class exceptions.ImportError at 8053640>, 'No module named my_module') And unfortunately, no documentation about this :( Any help appreciated :-) I also want to say once again that http://hostname:port/my_module/ works fine Thanks -- Richard Hitier PGP Key on pgp.mit.edu richard.hitier(a)IDEALX.com key 0xD1BAD022
