The scope of a Zclass CreateInObjectManager call?

OK, so I'm a newbie. Been working with Zope for about two weeks. On most problems, I usually find that I know what I WANT to do, then struggle mightily with Zope/Python syntax for half a day, then produce the 2-3 powerful lines of DTML that do exactly what I want. Not this time. This time, I'm really stumped. I've built a class. Works fine. Now I'm trying to enhance it. I want instances of this class to be created one folder DOWN from wherever the user asks to add an object. Which folder depends on one of the fields/properties in the instance being added. (for context, this is a tracking system of jobs and clients. I want to create a (class instance id) of job "5240" *inside* an "Adobe" folder, creating "Adobe" first if it doesn't exist. So why wouldn't something like this work as my "_add" method? <dtml-call "manage_addFolder(Client,'')"> <dtml-with "_[Client]"> <dtml-with "JobTicket.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> The way I see it, that should push the newly built "client" folder onto the namespace, and create the new job inside of that. Instead, it puts both the folder and the jobticket instance in the common "jobs" parent folder. I've spent hours looking in the mailing archives, the how-tos, the source code - and I'm lost. Permissions etc...

Ok guys here's the problem I have various labs who each have users - each lab should be able to see it's own data only which is organised as follows... Root |-->MyDB |-->acl_users (for the managers) |-->Groups |-->Group1 |-->acl_users (for each of the members of the lab) I have 2 roles created in the mydb folder (dbusers and dbmanagers) - each of the members of each of the labs is assigned into one of these two roles. All my dtml methods are stored in the mydb folder. The dbusers and dbmanagers have view permissions and access contents information for all these methods. I want the users to log in and then be able to look at the index_html in the mydb folder which then iterates through the groups that they are in and displays them. I thought that if I gave the role dbusers permission to view the index_html document they would have to log in and then the document would work as required. Only it doesn't.... RealAudio/Video

I recently created some RealAudio files and attempted to stick them into Zope. When people try to "view" the files, though, weird things happen. End result is they don't play. RealPlayer gives errors about file type ond version and stuff like that. When I put the same files on my apache server, all is well. What am I doing wrong? If you read httpd.conf on apache, you will see that real player's requests are non-standard. I don't really know what to do with this bit of knowledge, but I thought you could use it. SQL connection isolation / multiplexing

Hi everyone. Hope this is the right place for this. I have a data registration app running in zope that talks to a MySQL database. When a new piece of data is submitted, i need to generate a unique ID from the database and then update several tables with that ID and other information. I went about this by making 2 SQL methods: sql_register_1 - inserts data into a table with an AUTO_INCREMENT field sql_register_2 - inserts data into a second table, calling LAST_INSERT_ID() I know that SQL_LAST_INSERT() is connection-isolated in MySQL, i.e. inserting into table 1 from one connection will not alter LAST_INSERT_ID()'s value in another connection. I don't know, however, how Zope handles Z MySQL Connections. Looking at the open connections to the DB server, and the running processes, I would guess that each Zope child process maintains separate connections. Does this mean that I am guaranteed to only have one parallel web request per DB connection? I am concerned that if two requests hit the server at the same time, the following will happen: Request 1: sql_register_1 Request 2: sql_register_1 Request 1: sql_register_2 If these go over separate DB connections, no problem. If they don't, kaboom. Answers? Thanks for any light. ~ZF

Version 1.1.0 of ExtFile/ExtImage product has just been released. You can download it from: http://www.zope.org/Members/MacGregor/ExtFile ExtFile works like Zope Image and File objects but stores the file data externally in the filesystem and keeps only meta data in the Zope Database. Besides many internal changes and fixes the two most important new features are: - The structure of the repository directory can be customized. This allows you to structure it analog to the ZODB or slice the files into subdirectories depending on the filename/object id. - The format of the filenames in the repository can be customized. newbie: ZClass as a multifolder prototype

Can i create a ZClass with folders? As far as I can see, I cannot put folders into ZClass definition. I know I can have ObjectManager as a superclass, and then I can add folders to any ZClass instance. But is it possible to have folders in ZClass definition? -- Milos Prudek

This helped me answer my own question:http://www.zope.org/Members/jwashin/convertPMtoPS. You need this line: container.manage_addProduct['PythonScripts'].manage_addPythonScript(id, REQUEST=None). I looked in the Zope book but it doesn't really explain manage_addProduct very well.

Core Dump on ./start after system power out

Hello Recently a guy with an pick-axe dug through the mains supply outside our office block. Our server went down cold. After splicing, the server booted up fine. Only now, starting up zope (./start) results in a python core dump : Bad system call. As time is of the essence, I decided to scream for help while I'm trying to fix things myself. I'm about to delete all the .pid files in zopepath/var...can't really imagine it would help...any other bright ideas appreciated. Zope-2.3.0 Python 2.0 FreeBSD 3.5

DTML to search a lines property in a DTML Document?

Can you, using DTML, search a lines property of a DTML Document to look for a specific string? I have a set of DTML Documents with a custom lines property (called, e.g., "doctrines") and I want to search through the list in the context of a conditional statement in order to filter out the DTML Documents that don't have a specific doctrine in the doctrines property (or list those that do). Has anyone ever done that or something similar? TIA, Ron
