Parsed XML build error
by Tim Moore 16 May '01

I'm trying to build the Expat library as part of the ParsedXML product install. This with Zope 2.3.2 on Linux. Here's what I run: cd /usr/local/Zope-2.3.2/lib/python/Products/ParsedXML/Expat /usr/local/Zope-2.3.2/bin/python setup.py It seems to get through the confugure step ok, but then it fails somewhere during make: make -f ./Makefile.pre.in VPATH=. srcdir=. \ VERSION=$VERSION \ installdir=$installdir \ exec_installdir=$exec_installdir \ Makefile make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/Zope-2.3.2/lib/python/Products/ParsedXML/Expat' make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/local/Zope-2.3.2/lib/python1.5/config/Makefile', needed by `sedscript'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/Zope-2.3.2/lib/python/Products/ParsedXML/Expat' make: *** [boot] Error 2 Any clues? I thought this was supposed to be pretty straightforward :-( -- Tim Moore

RE: [Zope] HTML e-mail and irony
by Capesius, Alan 16 May '01

Some problems contributing to this is that Egroups/YahooGroups interface interprets HTML mail for the user. So those who are aware of HTML vs. text issues may be unaware that they are sending to the list in HTML if they read via egroups and then mail to the list. (648 people) They never see a restriction until they get a reply from someone on the list. The NIP search engine doesn't handle it the same way, so you see the attachment, as do those who subscribe directly. And... users of Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook etc.. based email systems may not be able to control the settings if the server is set to override it or may be unaware that MS does not default to plain text. Some incarnations require that the user manually change the setting to plain text EVERY time they send a message. >>>-----Original Message----- >>>From: Jeff Peterson [mailto:jpeterso@the-bridge.net] >>>Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2001 2:36 PM >>>To: Zope@Zope. Crazy Problem With Having to Restart Zope Won't Go Away!
by Ben Ocean 16 May '01

16 May '01

Hi; For some reason, from what I can judge a bug in the source code that affects some unfortunate ones such as myself, ZServer crashes every few hours and has to be re-started. So I wrote this script: >>> #!/bin/sh while : # if there's a page there, copy it to a test file do `wget -q -t 3 -T 30 http://thewebsons.com:8080/index_html -O test` # if there's something in the test file, go take a nap if grep '^<' test then sleep 60 # whoops! Why the heck does RH6.2 complain there's no ./start file?? Sometimes it complains, sometimes not. Hmmm... else if ./start then ./start & sleep 60 else sleep 10 fi fi done <<< and just let the fool thing run (in the Zope installation). But now I get error messages stating ./start doesn't exist! That's why the *else if* stuff, but it _still isn't good enough! Come back hours later and Zope's dead as a doornail. Furthermore, my script's not running, either. I don't get it! What am I not seeing? TIA, BenO

ODBC DSN file
by Menard.Jean-Francois＠hydro.qc.ca 16 May '01

I need to transform a lot of data from multiple Excel files and export one standard big text file. I created an ODBC System DSN, and it work fine. But I have about 100 excel files, and I would like to develop an interface with a dropdown list with all the excel files in my directory, choose one, and import it. Any ideas how I could do that? I tried to create a File DSN, but Zope doesn't seem to detect it. With such a connection, I could change the connection string into the DSN file when needed. So: - Is it possible to connect to a File DSN ODBC from Zope? - Is there a better, cleaner solution I could try? Thanks! DTML in Properties?
by Rahsheen Porter 16 May '01

16 May '01

I'm using ZStyleSheets and wanted to set the width of a layer to the width of the actual image which appears in it. I know that Zope has the image's size stored as a property of the image and this property can be acessed via DTML, but can I put DTML as the Value of the ZSSAttribute? HTML e-mail and irony
by Jim Penny 16 May '01

16 May '01

Is it not a bit ironic that a mailing list about a web development system has such a strong policy against HTML e-mail. (Not that I disagree, html email is, whether one is concerned about legibility, bandwidth, security, or privacy, an unadulterated evil. But still, there is a tinge of irony). Jim Penny

You could also point them to this page - http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help/html-off.html - which has instructions on how to turn off HTML in various email programs! :-) Cheers, Jon ----------------------------------------------------------------- It is a bit impolite just drop messages from novice users. I'd recommens to send them polite reply with FAQ on our policies. procmail+formail are great to do this kind of job. Oleg.
