Zope log in too slow in local network
by Igor Leturia 17 May '01

Hi! I'm new with Zope, I just downloaded and installed it yesterday. But I've got a problem: I installed Zope in my local network's server, which runs on Windows 2000 server, as a service; when I go to another computer, open the navigator and type http://localhost:8080/manage, I have to wait for more than a minute till it asks my username and password; after that it works fine and very fast, but I think the waiting time at the beginning is not normal and I want to fix that. I think that the problem might be that it starts finding the address in the internet, and when that fails (after a minute) it tries on the local network. How can I fix this? The server with Zope is a Windows 2000 Server, but the computer connected to the internet is a Windows 98 with a gateway installed. Thanks in advance, Igor

RE: [Zope] Getting user permissions
by Randall F. Kern 17 May '01

I do this all over the place in a python product: user = getSecurityManager().getUser() if user.has_permission('Foo', ob) This is of course the same as your sample (if the user is a normal zope user object). So I would look somewhere else for the problem. -Randy > -----Original Message----- > From: Andy McKay [mailto:andym@ActiveState.com] > Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2001 11:18 AM > To: Steve Drees; zope(a)zope.org > Subject: Re: [Zope] Getting user permissions > > > > SecurityGetUser is the blessed way to get a user object. > > I thought that was just for DTML? by Jan Sew 17 May '01

hello, can anyone offer an implementation for deciding between different languages in a navigation bar thus changing navigation bar entries and picking different (e.g. pages in spanish instead of english language) content referenced by the entries? besides i would need a kind of wysiwyg-editor that can be integrated into zope. any ideas? thanks a lot, jan

Management interfaces for ZPatterns applications
by Itai Tavor 17 May '01

17 May '01

Hi, I'm struggling with finding the best way to implement a management interface for a ZPatterns-based application. In the past I've implemented a custom interface for every application, but to keep my current project simple, I'd like to take advantage of the existing management interface. Problem is, it's not easy. First, the manageInstances_html methods of my Specialists need to be integrated into the management tabs. But /manage on a Specialist gives me the standard Specialist management tabs, so I would have to create a custom Specialist-subclassed Product for every Specialist, just to add in my own tabs. Second, I can't get the tabs_path to show anything useful. My management links use absolute_url. So if, for example, I'm viewing a Task at /my_site/Tasks/123/manage_edit and I click on a subtask link, I get /my_site/Subtasks/456/manage_edit - so the tabs_path doesn't show the object's context. If I avoid using absolute_url, in the same case I would get /my_site/Tasks/123/Subtasks/456/manage_edit, which is a bit more useful but also ugly and confusing. So, what does this leave me with? Create a Python Product for the top level of the application and for every Specialist that needs to display a UI for the classes it manages. Then, override tabs_path_default with a method that somehow figures out the right path to display. And how would that work? I still think management links should use absolute urls, so I need to somehow build the path back from the displayed object, without relying on the traversal path. I could get every object supply a parent_id, then I would have to scan all the Specialists to find that parent, display it, and go on to locate its parent. KISS goes out the window. Can anyone throw some ideas on how to simplify this mess? I'm starting to think my life would be a lot easier if I didn't use ZPatterns and just used object managers to store contained objects... but I don't want to give up ZPatterns yet...
