[ANN] ZShell 0.9
by Jerome Alet 16 May '01

16 May '01

Hi, I'm pleased to announce you the very latest ZShell version: 0.9 ZShell is an external Zope method which allows you to manipulate the ZODB using standard unix shell's commands from within Zope's Management Interface in your web browser. It's a very powerful tool which can possibly destroy your ZODB's contents when not used correctly: You've been warned. You can download it from: http://cortex.unice.fr/~jerome/zshell/ New features: ============= - Commands grep, view, properties and manage added. WARNING: no security check is done on manage. - Command replace was deleted since grep can do replace. - Command google now opens a new window. - If javascript is not activated then new windows are not opened but the user can follow links to the results in commands: google, view, properties and manage. - Some minor fixes. - Code simplifications. - find was going one level too deep when --maxdepth was used. You'll probably find the new grep command useful, considering that it can search and also replace patterns in objects. You can use the full re module regexp possibilities, both for the search and replace patterns. Currently grep is able to replace in objects content for objects which are or inherits from: DTMLMethod, DTMLDocument, PythonScript, provided you've got sufficient permissions. But grep can also replace in any other object type properties with its --properties option, again, if your current priviledges allow that. the meaning of a matching pattern can be reversed using the --invert option: objects that doesn't contain the pattern match. finally, the grep command may be used recursively with its --recurse option. Feel free to send any comment, bug report, or wish to me. Thanks in advance. Jerome Alet - alet(a)unice.fr

Cron & Receiving email

1) Is there a cron-like tool in Zope? Or a way to have cron run a process in Zope? 2) Under Linux/Sendmail, can I have the above Zope process "receive" mail sent to a particular address? (Note that my ignorance of how mail works could fill volumes). Thanks... RE: [Zope] packing a data.fs from outside zope?

How does that work with ZEO? If you were to pack the ZSS ODB on the ZSS box, do you have to shut down zope on the ZSS box? How do ZEO Clients react to this? disappearing management tabs
by Arkaitz 16 May '01

16 May '01

Hi all, I've got a Python product class that has an "editData" that once changed the info in the class, has to return to the original form. I do it like this: if REQUEST is not None: return self.editForm (REQUEST, manage_tabs_message='data saved.') The problem is that when calling it this way, the editForm DTML method doesn't have the management tabs that are there when it's called directly. This dtml file has this at the beginning: <dtml-var manage_page_header> <dtml-var manage_tabs> All the <head>, css, etc. gets inserted fine, but there are no tabs. Any hint? TIA, arkaitz.

SQL Session first time load
by Paul Zwarts 16 May '01

16 May '01

Hi all, Is there a reason why you cannot query _ZSession on the first page access? Observe: <var header> <var contentstuff> <var footer> Header: call Session Footer use a ZSQL session that logs a pageload data including the PreciseTime as PK, and Zsession as foreign key and the page address with query string. What happens..: First time you load, you get a key error for _ZSession. To fix it: Reload page and all resumes as should. But I especially want to record the entry point for a browser... which cannot happen if only the second load can be logged. Paz

Re: [Zope] Problem with Automatic Cataloging Example in ZopeBook

Does that get indexed? Would you be kind enough to > try to make that distinction and report back? I am following the example in the ZopeBook, Chapter 9 to the letter: Adding Product News, Creating ZClass NewsItem, Baseclasses: ZObject, CatalogAwareBase Adding a propertysheet News to NewsItem Adding properties to this sheet: content: text author: string date: date I then create an instance of Catalog, with Indexes: author FieldIndex content TextIndex date FieldIndex title FieldIndex and a table of Metadata absolute_url author date title I also create a ZSearch Interface with a FOrm and a Report method If I now add a NewsItem to my ZOpe somewhere, I can see the item appearing in my Catalog, when I click on the Catalog-tab. When I now click on the item in the catalog, I see the catalog record for this item. This tells me that the fields author and title are empty in the section Metadata Contents and author, title and content are empty in the section Index Contents. Now trying the trick with the PythonScript: Adding a PythonScript "test" as method to NewsItem The script just returns a string, without any params. Adding a TextIndex "test" to the Catalog Adding a field "test" to the Metadata table With this in place, I now add another NewsItem to my Zope, and add some dummy content. Looking at the index record reveals: Indeed, the string returned from the "test" script is in place, both in the Index and in the Metatable record. -- Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University 47 Higashiogura-cho, Kitashirakawa, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto 606-8265, JAPAN
