Calling ZClass constructors programmatically...
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

Sorry to bring up this subject, as it seems to be a popular question on the list, but I'm not sure if there is a complete answer to the question in the list archives, HOWTOs, etc. I'm sure I am not alone in trying to find an answer to this... I have been trying a bunch of different things to instantiate a ZClass instance (in this case, it is a custom folder subclassed from ZCatalog:CatalogAware, and OFS:Folder). The ZClass constructor (which works when called by direct traversal from the factory form) is another PythonScript, and I am trying to call the constructor via a PythonScript elsewhere in the ODB hierarchy; my code to do that looks like this: #--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- container.Control_Panel.Products.Classifieds.AdFolder_add(id=`item.id`, title=item['category'], shortTitle=item['category'], locationDepth=1, redir=0) #--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- The problem with this is that it creates the instance in the namespace of the product folder where the AdFolder_add constructor resides. I would use container.manage_addProduct['Classifeds'].AdFolder_add() ... but this won't work, because manage_addProduct doesn't understand what 'Classifieds' is (though it does when called through the web and this also works fine programmatically for OFS:Folder...). The code for my constructor is below; I am wondering if there is a way to adjust the script that calls the constructor to have it (somehow) pass the namespace of the calling folder (acquisition parent of the calling script) to the constructor method? Any help anyone might have would be greatly appreciated. If I can find an answer, I will try to piece together a howto... Thanks, Sean ## Script (Python) "AdDayFolder_add" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters=id, title, shortTitle, redir ##title= ## #--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- #--- Trap for no id, this sucks, and we quit... if not id: return 'Doh! Need an id for object constructor. Try again...' #--- Setup some defaults, in case params passed to this script aren't there... if not title: title="Ads" if not shortTitle: shortTitle='Ads' if not locationDepth: locationDepth='1' if not redir: redir='1' #default is to redirect to instance manager, see comments below #--- Set parameters passed to this script as REQUEST form params... container.REQUEST.set('title', title) container.REQUEST.set('shortTitle', shortTitle) container.REQUEST.set('locationDepth', locationDepth) #--- First, add new instance of an AdFolder class object within the #--- current context / parent folder / aquisition parent container.manage_addProduct['Classifieds'].AdFolder.createInObjectManager(id , container.REQUEST) #--- Secondly, sync the parameters passed to this method with the #--- Property Sheet of the AdFolder instance container[id].propertysheets.Basic.manage_editProperties(container.REQUEST) #--- Now re-index with catalog... container[id].reindex_object() #--- Now, by default, we assume this is a web-request initiated constructor #--- method that is going to need to redirect the browser to some URL, so if #--- redir=1 (default), then this is going to redirect to the management #--- interface URL for the new object instance; there are 2 other options, #--- each with it's own numerical code as possible (used) values of redir: #--- #--- 0 - No Redirect (redirect off) #--- 1 - Redirect default to instance management screen (redirect on) #--- 2 - Redirect to context/parent folder's management screen if (redir == '1'): return container.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(container[id].absolute_url()+'/manage_wo rkspace') if (redir == '2'): return container.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(container.absolute_url()+'/manage_worksp ace') else: return 'OK' #Default return statement, in the case of no redirect #--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- ========================= Sean Upton Senior Programmer/Analyst SignOnSanDiego.com The San Diego Union-Tribune 619.718.5241 sean.upton(a)uniontrib.com =========================

How can I = > do > that? > > I already tried: > > ***index_html*** > <html> > <dtml-var "sap_root.leaves.merkmale.merkmale_index()"> > </html> This fails because you break the DTML namespace chain. Use: <dtml-with "sap_root.leaves.merkmale"> <dtml-var "merkmale_index"> </dtml-with> or: <dtml-var "sap_root.leaves.merkmale.merkmale_index(_.None,_)"> > and > > <html> > <dtml-var sap_root.leaves.merkmale.merkmale_index> > </html> This fails because the first attribute of most DTML tags is interpreted as an (atomic!) object name if it is not enclosed in "...". You code looks for an object with name "sap_root.leaves.merkmale.merkmale_index". The '.' are not interpreted as the attribute access operator but are passive parts of the name. Some hackery is necessary to convince your browser to no longer send your id and password (that's what logged in means with HTTP basic authentication). Zope's logout page uses "<dtml-raise Unauthorized>" for this hackery. You will get an "unauthorized" whatever you give as user/password. But most browsers forget the old login information after you gave them once a new one (which, of course, fails too). You may read the "Web Publishing" section of URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html if you want to learn more about basic authentication. Dieter

Zope crashing (still)
by Ron Bickers 19 Apr '01

After applying some CVS updates to PythonScripts as posted (last week I believe), I was hoping Zope wouldn't crash. However, after 4 days, it restarted with the following: ------ 2001-04-16T19:51:12 ERROR(200) zdaemon zdaemon: Mon Apr 16 15:51:12 2001: Aiieee! 888 exited with error code: 4 ------ Any clues? _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc. rbickers(a)logicetc.com

Modifying form input which is passed as a record
by Richard Ettema 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

Hi, I have a form that passes info as a record with the following type of info: [a: 'bob', b: 'silver', a: 'trev', b: 'gold', a: 'nig', b: 'bronze', a:'lee', b:'gold'] I want to work thru this info and pick out all the records with a key 'b' equal to 'gold'. I want to place this into a new key-value record (or list?) to use later. So it would create: [a: 'trev', b: 'gold', a:'lee', b:'gold'] I cant work out how to do this. My main problem is inserting key names to make the key-value pairs. I have got around this by creating a list within a list but this has no keys: [ ['trev','gold'], ['lee','gold'] ] Thanks for any ideas. Richard

Re: [Zope] Performance and Server Requirements

> OK, so a site that's only in the tens of thousands of hits per day range > should be no sweat. What about the Linux server to put under it? Am I > wrong to think that a single processor and 256meg should do the trick? > Chris Hi Chris, I think it's impossible to give a general recommendation. There are some factors which need to be taken into account and which are very project specific. - ten thousand hits a day are in most cases not distributed uniformly across the day. For instance we have a site which gets hit like hell when people come into their offices in the morning, - Response time matters. We are working on a zope project where all menus are built dynamically by iterating through zclasses in a folder. Everything is quite modular. When benchmarking this on a relativly slow (PII-350 + 64mb) Server I got 4 hits a second, *but* max. answer times between 1 and 2 seconds. - There's the possibility of using a reverse proxy. I configured apaches mod proxy with the above mentioned setup and got 500 hits/second on the same hardware. But this kind of caching my not always be feasible. cheers, oliver

hasRole is just there to confuse... use: _.SecurityGetUser().has_role('Manager', index_html) instead.
