No bugfixes from final beta?!
by Chris Withers 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

Hi Brian, >From ZWN: > The "no changes between last beta and final" approach is one that we are going > to adopt from now on. Even seemingly dead-simple bug fixes can turn into (different) bugs, > and being very strict about allowing any changes between a final beta and a release will > produce fewer surprises. I need to update the official release policy to reflect this. Sorry, but this seems kindof silly... what's the point of doing a final beta if you're not going to make any changes (even fixing bugs!) after it? Surely you might as well just release it as the final then? cheers, Chris

Zope via IIS: How does ASPN do it?
by Michael Strasser 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

There have been recent questions about routing Zope requests through IIS. ActiveState has a way of doing it for ASPN and I would like to know how. I have noticed (by snooping with Proxomitron) that a request to http://www.activestate.com is served by IIS 5.0. Here is some stuff from Proxomitron's log window: HTTP/1.0 200 OK Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0 Content-Location: http://www.activestate.com/index.html Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 00:48:31 GMT Content-Type: text/html However, when I request http://www.activestate.com/ASPN the request is served by Zope: HTTP/1.0 200 OK Server: Zope/Zope 2.3.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) ZServer/1.1b1 Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2001 00:51:33 GMT Content-Type: text/html (The second line is wrapped.) The only widely-available information on Zope via IIS is Brian Hooper's How-To (http://www.zope.org/Members/brianh/iis_howto) but that relies on setting a Windows extension .pcgi to trigger use of PCGI. ActiveState doesn't do that as far as I can tell. Maybe there is some feature of IIS 5.0 I have missed. Would anyone from ActiveState like to let us in on the secret? -- Michael Strasser Brisbane, Australia

IIS with Zserver on NT
by Vishnu Prasad 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

Hi I would like to know the possibility of having IIS as the webserver for my zope 2.3.1 on NT instead of the default Zserver. Can someone give reference or step by step instructions for implementing the same? I remember the usage of ProxyPass/SiteRoot on Linux with apache as the webserver instead of Zserver. Similarly, i guess that the usage of most common windows webserver - IIS instead of Zserver will make a difference. thanks, vishnu __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? TypeError in TransparentFolderPatch
by Wolfgang Strobl 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

After exporting/importing/copying a folder (say: xyzzy) around, which itself contains a transparent folder, from one Zope installation to another I'm plagued by the following error message which is quoted below. Error Type: TypeError Error Value: illegal argument type for built-in operation The error happenes when I try to import the xyzzy.zexp into the root folder of the target zope. Importing xyzzy.zexp into an arbitrary subfolder (say: t) works, but then the very same error occurs when trying to copy/paste t/xyzzy to where it belongs: to the root. Any ideas? I haven't read through TransparentFolderPatch enough in order to understand what it is trying to do here. large images to a database via zope.
by ghaley＠mail.venaca.com 19 Apr '01

19 Apr '01

hi, if any of you have had experience with this, some sort of pointers or a link to the appropriate how-to would be most appreciated. we are running zope 2.3.n with mysql 2.23.n (where n is i'm not sure the exact port). there is some sort of practical limit on the size of a file that mysql can insert (it's somewhere around 16MB), although a largeblob data type should be able to hold over a gig. [blob is binary large object, a datatype in MySQL] using a shell script i can get a large file to split into 5MB chuncks and then creating a set of part numbers, insert these (via the mysql++) api into the database. a second script can retrieve these and recombine them. so, my question is, how can i get zope to do this? two tables will be involved: 1. object identifiers. containing object_id (a unique, auto_incrementing number) size in bytes 2. object blob storage. id (unique auto_increment) object_id (identical to object_id above) object_pt bfile (the blob data). in my calling method, i would do something like (this is pseudo code). <dtml-in object> <dtml-call (obj_pt, object_pt)> <dtml-call EM.load_blob> // python does all the work based on the object_id value passed in // </dtml-in> i am very low on python skills, so, since i cannot know how many parts a file will contain until i start to fetch how can i write the python script to iterate the number of loops to get all the pieces back out. would for xx in [object_pt] work? if so, does xx start at 0, or can i set it to start at 1 (this would determine the values i put into the blob datafile in the first place)? i've been told this can be done, but i've not tracked down any examples of it. any help will be greatly appreciated. ciao! greg. dns(?) question
by Chris Larsen 18 Apr '01

18 Apr '01

I have an internal linux machine running zope and a freebsd firewall running ipnat/ipfilter, dns, and apache. I would like to set zope up so that a) people can access it, and b) so that people can just type in "zope.silentcooperative.com" and have it redirected to the proper machine. I don't want to use mod_proxy, squid, transproxy or apache at all for that matter for the redirection. Can I do this in DNS in conjunction with NAT or is there a low overhead suggestions for doing this??? thanks, chris

Pb with SiteRoot + Zope 2.3.1 or Zope 2.3.2b1 + Suse 7.1
by Neunreither, Isabelle 18 Apr '01

18 Apr '01

Hi, I'm a newbie with zope. For two weeks, I have start with my diplom. My diplom theme is Zope and XML. At the moment, I don't know exactly in which way i can contribute to the zope development and i read a lot of documentation to understand the zope mechanisms. Today, i send my first problem :-( I have installed first zope 2.3.1, then zope 2.3.2b1 on a linux Server (Suse 7.1) and following problem appears with both version: I try to connect to the management interface through the Zserver with following address http://localhost/Zope instead of http://localhost:8008/ (my port 8080 is yet in use). To do this, I read the How-To: Using Apache with ZServer (NOT Zope.cgi) and decide to use the "First example: Partial Zope-ification" and not the virtual host example. It explains exactly what I need and want, but it doesn't work correctly. All the images and most of the links are correctly interpreted, but some links such as logout, preferences or the path in the manager interface don't link the correct pages! So, if i clicked of the logout link, i get following: "you don't have permission to access /". The " no permission " - problem is normal, but that the link is "/" and not "http://localhost/Zope/ is not normal. So, i decided to delete the SiteRoot object and I tested the links again. All links have been then correct, only after clicking the logout link, i was asked to give my passwort. i gave my passwort, clicked of ok and get following message: connect failed. Then i clicked of cancel and saw in my management interface i'm logged out. Did somebody have the same problem? I try to find a solution. I opened manage_top_frame.dtml to see which variable define the path, but i thing i have a lot to learn before i can change something in the code :-) Cheers, Isabelle
