Yeah, and it also breaks the code of everyone who adopted Tino's patch, unless we continue to update and apply the patch even after DC's fix is in. DC ignored the community's requests for a fix, as well as community-supplied patches, for a long time. So the community dealt with the problem in the open source spirit - Tino gave us a very nice and simple patch, and we gratefully adopted it. Now that DC finally wake up, they come up with a solution that penalizes everyone who did not just sit there waiting for DC to offer a fix. And what's their justification for this? That some people might have defined variables named 'sequence_index' or 'sequence_item'. Everybody please stand up who ever defined such a variable. Ok, rant over. So I need more sleep. RE: [Zope] Zope service network permissions on NT

ODBC DSNs don't require drive mappings, use UNC names by typing them into the filename prompt. To map drives under the service's login account, login to the machine as the service account and map the drives. This will however prevent you from unmapping the same drives as a different user from the desktop. This can be very confusing if you are not aware of what is going on. I don't use NFS so I can't address that specifically, but try the UNC's (sometimes you can sub them in the settings file even when the GUI doesn't allow the config.) Did you already read the available documentation? the Zope book and URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html Never mind. If I understand you right, then you want to do difficult things: Do you want to have something like a "computed property", say "title= 'What a great time <dtml-var ZopeTime>'"? This title would be different, each time it will be accessed because the time component would change. Properties are not designed for that! They are mappings of names to values of simple types: string, integer, lists, dates... nothing complex. The easiest way to emulate "computed" properties is to use a folderish ZClass that uses DTML objects or Python Scripts (External Methods) as property emulation. There are more difficult solutions that wrap convert property values into DTML objects and then render them.... Dieter

Security - View vs Access Contents
by Tim Considine 17 Apr '01

Newbie questions - Zope experience 3 days - be gentle with me ! (1) I want to set the security properties of a sub-folder to relate to a specific user. So I uncheck View for the anonymous user to "force" a Zope login. But it doesn't appear to work. So I uncheck Access Contents too - and it does seem to work. What is the difference between these 2 permissions ? (2) Also I am struggling then to make Zope check the AUTHENTICATED_USER against a property set for the folder which contains the authorised user's initials (which are the same as login name). I am trying to use a standard DTML method but set individual property elements for each sub-folder. Is this OK as an approach ? Or is there a better one ? My DTML code is this ... but it's clearly wrong ! [User is name or property element set for the folder.] <dtml-if expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()==objectValues('User')"> <br>Welcome <br> <dtml-else> <br>You should not be here.<br> </dtml-if> Any advice on either would be much appreciated. Another note here: We use a batch file to map drives letters for an automated DOS application that does a scripted overnight run. If the drive letters are mapped on the open desktop the schedule service cannot map the drives. While drive mappings are user specific, only one set can be active at a time. (Not very multiuser friendly) Probably different behavior under winframe environments. >>>-----Original Message----- >>>From: Capesius, Alan [mailto:CapesiusA@Sysmex.com] >>>Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2001 3:10 PM >>>To: Loren Stafford; zope(a)zope.org >>>Subject: RE: [Zope] Zope service network permissions on NT >>> >>> >>>ODBC DSNs don't require drive mappings, use UNC names by >>>typing them into >>>the filename prompt. >>> >>>To map drives under the service's login account, login to >>>the machine as the >>>service account and map the drives.
